Not sure about O&K now but in Bendigo to get a high quality player you need $1500+ per game so clubs need to find other means of making money to support this( hence Fev and Browny). Issue being where does this stop and not all clubs have the ability to do so, they are then kept out of the market and not competitive.
Back in mid 90's when playing O&K $100-150 per game was top money so payments have gone up over 10 fold but have clubs revenue?? No
It is all getting unsustainable

A good football team should put bums on seats.....and even make it to the back page....week in week out. But I must say I like seeing the afl players coming up to play.

Just playing the devils advocate here guys but what would happen if one of these "show case" games cost a losing side a finals appearance and the winning side didn't get near the finals...or vica versa got a mediocre side into the finals that didn't deserve to be there..(no I'm not calling Greta mediocre....all just hypothetical)......

along the same lines what about a gun player who wins one game off his boot and then breaks down
sides misses finals and team beaten also does

No problems with 'one off' spectacles, if Greta can do it, any (well run) club is capable of pulling it off.by that I mean every club has the opportunity to do it if they wish! My query is of a top quality AFL footballer, who has an afl pre season under his belt, playing minimum games and playing finals. Potentially costing other clubs (as well as passionate players) a fair contest in a finals match. Is that moral Campbell? Is that fair for district country footy? You guys tell me!

What about all players cut their payments in half and then football clubs would not be doing this to raise money for player payments
Will the introduction of player ranking system help even out the leagues ?
The amount of hours of work done by Club commitees to keep these clubs afloat is to be comended

Obviously none of you have been reading the papers and forums lately??????its not about whats fair and moral it's about winning games at all costs and if that means spending crazy money or playing ring ins to get you into finals then that's what you do.geez guys wake up and smell the roses it's not rocket surgery
 
Doesn't make it right. My point was aimed at Campbell brown! He doesn't need the money! No doubt there's no point going on and on about player payments, it isn't going anywhere (apart from up).

So you know his financial situation do you??ive got no problem with players of his experience and draw power asking for that what I've got a problem with is 18 yr olds coming out of thirds demanding $300-$400 a game like a particular Greta player and all the drugging scum demanding top dollar at glenrowan so they can piss it up against a wall or hit the gear with
 
Watched first half of tarra v tigers. Tarra were lucky to be in contest! First 3 goals in 5 minutes. Didn't touch ball for quarter and a half. Glenrowan inaccurate. Couple of lucky 'umpiring' goals to tarra in second quarter as well. Anyone disagree? Didn't see second half though.

Thought the umpiring was very average (very much on Tarra's side). Thought the tigers were very sharp in the second and third quarter. Last quarter they took their foot off the pedal a bit, but very impressed with the tigers especially after watching Milawa on Saturday... But Glenrowan's midfield is by far the best in the comp (that's my opinion). And I think the tigers will be a lot stronger when Nigel Robinson is back in... Any one else see the game?

Took the kids out for look. I thought the umpiring was terrible both ways. Looks like both sides weren't at their best.
I thought the skills of both sides were very average.
Normo wasn't interested & spent a fair bit on time on the pine!

You must have been watching a different game to the one I saw. Tigers looked a far better side in all aspects, moved the ball quickly and their spread from stoppages was impressive. They are well drilled and really well coached. Normo did what he needed to, didn't cover too much ground but still had plenty of it. Tarra had a few out, j Allen, pidge and a few others. Tigers look to have some good depth, Boo Lang was prob in their bottom couple of players yesterday! Will be a cracker game on Anzac Day vs Milawa.
Did anyone else see any other games on the WE?
 
Glenrowan Vs Milawa on Anzac Day at the Rovers Ground ....I know the Campbell Brown game was good but has there been a bigger Ovens and King game ...Home and Away for some time ?? This is one game no -one should miss ..Should be a great game .. Grand Final re-match . Any one have any thoughts on this game ie possible result ? Will it be worth watching ? Will it be supported well Crowd Wise ?? Should be very interesting and set up the Season of Ovens and King well , which may I say apart from possibly Glenrowan , Milawa and Tarra who look to be top 3 looks very , very interesting in that Moyhu , Greta , Whorouly , King Valley , Bright and Bonnie Doon all look pretty even so the battle for 4th , 5th and 6th looks very interesting . Its hard to say , who will in the end make up the complete top 6 but lets see if the Old Pros Milawa or rising up and comers Glenrowan are after Round 4 outright Premiership Favorites or will it become even murkier ?!?!??!

Boo Lang was on crutches at the Greta/KV game a week earlier.

Maybe Showtime should stick to the dressage ring !?!??!
Anyway Pussycats lets not get too negative .. Lets concentrate on the positives ..Teams queuing up for a spot in the 6 , a great Good Friday Game and the most eagerly awaited home and away match in years on Anzac Day ...Old Showtime serial offender over the years bagging out every one for years ..Says more about him than others ..I'm rather embarrassed for him ,,,but I think there's a lot more positives than negatives in the O and K than ever before .. Ok boys I'll make some calls for the next Round

The Best Round of Ovens and King for 3 years in that I think in all games results can go either way or at the very least will be close

Moyhu by 9 Points over Greta on Good Friday
Tarra by 29 Points over Bright
Whorouly to down King Valley by 22 Points
Bonnie Doon by 47 points over Goorambat
North Wang to Beat All blacks by 18 points
And in the Big One
Glenrowan and Milawa to play out a draw in the first big Anzac Day Clash !!
 
It's probably the best round in the last 10 years. I agree the o and k is looking better. Hopefully the 'top sides' taper off the spending just a little next year and the league would be in the best state since at least the departures of beechworth, chiltern, and rutherglen. I've got an idea that I'd be interested to know thoughts! (Sorry to clubs I'm talking about negatively) country footy should be just that. (Country footy) I'll name 4 clubs in the immediate area, all blacks, nth wang, wod saints, Murray magpies. All (more or less) city based teams. All perennial strugglers. If you lived in 'city' you would watch o and m given the choice. Lose these clubs and allow country clubs to thrive in/for the community's. In the o and k's case, tatong, swan pool merge, goorambat stand alone. Benalla has a goulburn side to follow. Players filter out to rural sides where they are appreciated and needed. City football is focused on better standard football. Thoughts?

For me there's Glenrowan, Milawa & Tarra then daylight. Based on results so far you could throw a blanket over Moyhu, Whorouly, Bright, King Valley, Bonnie Doon & Greta.
That's where much of the interest will probably lie week in week out which is great for the O&K & its followers.
 
Just watched the moyhu Greta game. Greta looked to be in the clear after half time. A late charge from moyhu saw them take the win by 2 points! Had Hourigan goaled from a set shot in the dying moments the blues would have for up. Rich Findlay extremely inaccurate, think he missed about 5 goals. Jeremy Wilson, Waite, mcgeehan, Balfour and welsh in the best. Anyone know where that symes for Greta is from? Looks very handy

Hourigan couldve earned his whole $600 with that one kick.
Symes was great, only playing for greta because he was suspended and because o and k started before gv got cleared so he could serve his suspension getting cleared back to the saints when the 28 days is up

Was this a club suspension or a league one, either way I didn't think you could play at all..
