Watched the Glenrowan Vs Bonnie Doon Game yesterday and it was a hostile , hard tough game in very trying conditions .
Glenrowan overall were the better side as indicated by scoring shots , although both sides were missing key players , goals were gold on the day .
Glenrowan were happy with the win as would have Bonnie Doon if they had have prevailed .
One thing I would mention and I wonder if any other Clubs have noticed this , the performance of the Bonnie Doon Coach or who ever it was running there bench after the game .???
We stormed off the bench in rage or frustration nearly causing an all in brawl in his attack on a Couple of Glenrowan Players an the Umpires .
He had to told to pull his head by his players after he targeted in at the top of his voice calling a couple of Glenrowan players repeatadly you pair of F**king C**ts and verbally attacking the Umpires ...I believe the Umpires were close to reporting him but this would have further enraged Him and possibly escalated the situation to physical Bonnie Doon overall are a great Club and the players showed great respect to each other after the game ...but the Coach was an embarrassment for Bonnie Doon and there is no way for whatever reason you can possibly condone it . Bonnie Doon owe Glenrowan and Umpires and apology and it is a wonder the league dont ask a few questions about it as the situation was volatile and risked further escalation ..Just wondering if any other Clubs have witnessed his behaviour ???

I agree, I went out and watched yesterday and noticed his actions. Thought it was a very bad look for a coach (as well as the club) to be acting in that manor when it was a very close game. Bonnie Doon's supporters were also disgusting, using revolting language around young children and constantly shouting abuse to players & umpires... I wouldn't be surprised if the coach and supporters have behaved like that at other games during the season... I think they need pull their heads in.

Glad it wasn't just me ...The Crowds abuse obviously affected the players ...judging by their reaction to the Bonnie Doon Crowd , which wasn't abusive or threatening more elation and relief , after the game and then the Coach/Bench Man ..Jesus what drugs was he on .. The language that come from him and aggression he showed towards the Glenrowan boys ..Havent seen anything like it ... I think the Umpires were rattled after the game and it was lucky the Players on both sides showed enough common sense and sportsman ship to ignore it ...It will be real interesting to see if Bonnie Doon down play it and blame others or get on the front foot and try and clean up the mess ...Apparently the abuse to Umpires coming from the bench was insane as well ... Im no shrinking violet but I'm sick of Clubs when they behave appallingly get on forums like this and down play and blame other Clubs it instead of just apologizing , improving and all moving on .... Its not a death sentence but a chance for them to show they're a Club on the up and they don't tolerate that behaviour ..They have done a lot of work this year and they are legitimately a top 4 side and all this does is make you think whoever is running the joint is letting everything run out of control and who ever that bloke was Coach etc maybe he shouldn't be there as he obviously cant handle the position and doesn't realise what responsibilities go with that job .. Clean your act up Bonnie Doon !!!

Hmmm.
Interesting take on events. I am the the Bonnie Doon coach and must say that I was disappointed in not controlling my emotion after the game and would expect to be better and usually am in those situations.
Your take on events is very wrong and unfair but you will have your reasons for doing so and that is yours or your clubs issue to deal with.
First of all I must say what great games the firsts and seconds games were. I was extremely proud of our boys efforts. The ground was in magnificent condition considering the rain we have had.
I thought Glenrowan were a terrific team, they play a great style of footy and Karl Norman and Robinson were brilliant. Your run and spread is really good and there are a few livewires up forward.
I didnt see anything hostile all day on the ground but it was a hard physical contest because of the conditions. No malice from either side.
we had our best 21 available on the day. They made us proud. Glenrowan was the better team but we stuck on well.
I thought the central umpires were terrific on a hard day to umpire. The umpiring all year has been first class. I have not seen one of our games badly umpired.
Now in relation to your accusations. I will state the facts once as it does no one any good in getting into an argument with a liar or someone that has diminished capacity.
A Glenrowan player kicked the ball out on the full by about a half a metre just near our coaches box. The club 50yo boundary said it was touched over. I said, not abused or yelled, that was out on the full. He then turned and aggressively pointed and yelled at me.
Over the next few minutes he verballed the people on our bench which the bench restrained from answering.
A few minutes later the ball went out of bounds on the goal side of our coaches box and went past the coaches box on the clubrooms side. He ran past to get the ball. Without me moving from where he ran past the first time to get the ball; about three metres inside the boundary, when came back to the goal side with the ball he elbowed me hard in the back as he ran past without me looking. I called him a little prick. I said to the central that they must have seen him do it. They came and asked us to move back further.
At half time our officials asked the central umpires if they could get him to boundary the other side which they did.
After the game I didnt storm onto the ground but walked as I always do to congratulate the opposition and the umpires.
As I walked towards the players the boundary was about thirty metre the other side of the players. He stared stared straight at me me with a huge grin and gestured towards me me as if he had beaten me. I did get upset and called him a prick again. None of the words you suggest.
Unfortunately two of your players spoke to me as they probably thought I was having a go at them. Some small school yard banter was exchanged for 20 seconds which was my fault for being in the wrong situation at the wrong time. A lesson learned.
I teach my players to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. It was unfortunate the actions of one person and my reaction at the finish could mar such a great day. Good luck to your club for the rest of the year.
The league is absolutely fantastic and all the people involved.
I wont be responding any further as you only need to say the facts once. They dont change.

Was on my way back to Myrtleford from Harrietville after work on Saturday and called into watch Bright v Nth Wang. Got there just after half time and couldn't believe the state of the ground it was a disgrace. You couldn't tell which player was on what side and you could tell the players weren't sure either. Watched 20 mins and went home to warm my feet by the fire which was much more enjoyable than watching the mud wrestling at Bright, surely they can't play there next week. After the rain we have had today it would have to be played elsewhere.

Oh and another interesting thing I noticed there wasn't any league umpires for the game. I have never seen that before in senior or 2nds football, is it a common thing in country footy?

Interesting.. Apparently Bright haven't been training on their ground because of the state of it. Can anyone confirm this?

Well I can tell you they can't possibly train on it for the next few weeks unless we get 20 degree days with no rain in the next week.

wow it's unlike glenrowan people to cause the problem and blame everyone else.unfortunately everyone has played them before and knows what they are like despite how much they try to talk up how bad everyone else is

Goorambat vs Whorouly last week had club umpires for both grades! I'm thinking about being a whistle blower next year, an umpire told me a central umpire is paid $160 per game!! Obviously the amount of abuse they cop is a factor, but as far as I'm concerned, you want to argue a desicion 50m penalty and keep arguing, send off!! Would people support that idea if it would bring more people to officiate the games?

PAY NOT THE POINT. Good to see patrons noticing no umps. Have a go. Maybe you've also noticed no junior games too.
Re Glenrowan game. Umps have to be umps first and foremost , leave the club bit behind for the arvo - if you can't , then get someone else to do it.
Coach should be nowhere near the line the boundary ump runs. You may have noticed the second line on O&M grounds - came in after one coach shirt fronted boundary I think.
Good note : players very tolerant of young boundaries and short throws. Note to ruckmen - don't stand so far back when young ump moves in 5 to 10m.
Don't forget , the junior boundaries hear all the shit that comes over the fence at the other umps and players.

It's not a good look from outside the O&K for any players thinking of coming over and playing in the
competition. I wouldn't contemplate playing a game of football without official umpires, not even a practice match. If that happened in suburban football it would be a free for all.

I agree it's not a good look but personally I don't care who umpires as long as someone does. A lot of club umpires would be just as good as league umpires. On the ground at bright, last time I checked it footy was a winter game. Since when did we get so precious that we can't play in mud? If you ask me it sorts out the men from the mice. A good side/player will adapt to play wherever in whatever conditions. Do we call the game off if it gets windy? Or the ground is like concrete? Sometimes (more often than elsewhere in bright) it rains heavily in the hours before the games, during the 3s and 2s, and the night before. As well as during the week. Two home games in a row.

Has anyone heard of any O&K home and away games being moved because of the condition of a ground? Apparently Bright (with a home game scheduled against King Valley) approached Myrtleford to play at its ground this weekend. Despite the O&M having a bye this weekend they've knocked Bright back to play there. Fair on Myrt's behalf?

IMHO, Myrtleford are quite within their rights to deny another club access to their ground, irrespective of which club or league that may be. As Brock26 said it's a "winter" sport.
On the matter of boundary umpires, the league needs to formalise a policy & certainly some sort of payment structure for those prepared to help out. One of the boundary umps in the Seniors at the Tarra-Greta game was a 13yo boy who was asked to help at short notice, otherwise he wouldn't have attended. His father made an 80km round trip to take his son to & from the footy yet the young man was paid nothing for his efforts. His dad is adamant his son won't be helping again. We really need to encourage people to help in the absence of local umpires. If the game was at Greta we would've come to some compromise for the kid, maybe some cash, maybe a pie & a drink, something, anything!!

Show you some clubs are more worried about paying big money for players then looking after there
volunteers I know a couple of clubs that are paying there young boundary umps at lest $60 -$80
for doing the senior boundary at home or away games and also for the seconds games not sure about the
amount mighy be half that . POOR FORM from clubs not looking after them if the league supplies boundary umps it close to $100 per kid if they do half the ground so why wouldn't you pay them as well
Hope nexted week they carn't get anyone to do it so maybe it will be left to the President to fill the role

What's everyone's tips for the weekend? Which is the game of the round?

Game of the round likely to be Bonnie Doon vs Whorouy at the Bombers home. Bonnie Doon to win but Whorouly to make it hard. Bright will look to get one back on King Valley, especially with two weeks of playing on its sodden ground, and should easily get over the Roos. Forecasts of snow in Bright overnight too. The reminding games should provide obvious winners.

My tip is Swanpool and Tatong to join PDFL.

PICOLA DISTRICT GIVES SAMARIA A TICK AS SWANPOOL AND TATONG UNITE TO FIELD TEAMS IN LEAGUE

Samaria Suns Sporting Club has taken the first big step to Picola District Football League inclusion after its formal request to join the league was approved. A combined effort between members of Swanpool and Tatong football netball clubs, the Samaria Suns is a completely new entity which hopes to service the greater southern Benalla community.

Former Tatong president Felicity Munro is part of the new club’s steering committee and was delighted to learn the club’s application to join the PDFL had been accepted. Next, the new club must make a presentation to the league board and club delegates. ‘‘It’s fantastic progression for the new club and it’s great to have the backing of the PDFL, AFL Goulburn Murray and AFL Victoria,’’ Munro said. ‘‘Now we have to make a presentation to the league and the delegates where we have to show we’re fielding all the teams or as close as possible to all the teams.

‘‘We have to show we have a real sustainability plan and that this isn’t just a flash-in-the-pan effort.’’ Munro said the biggest concerns she anticipated other clubs might have would be travel, but believed the Suns would fit in nicely into the PDFL’s south-east competition. Should the Suns be successful, it would be the second team to come into the league in successive seasons, after Tocumwal successfully joined the league from Murray Football League.

The Suns will use Swanpool’s and Tatong’s facilities, and Munro said the club would look to engage the greater Benalla community. ‘‘It’s a whole new entity and it gives the opportunity to bring in new people and start fresh,’’ Munro said.

‘‘If we get the go-ahead, then we’ll have an inaugural annual general meeting and formally vote for a president and committee members, and we need as much diversity there as we can get. ‘‘We’ve asked some people and we have an idea of who we want involved, but there are plenty of us involved who know what’s involved in running a football club, so we’re looking more to broaden our direction on the business side of things.’’

Munro said the club would have a big emphasis on junior development and hoped to service a host of small towns in the area that have lost or never had their own clubs. PDFL president Shane Railton said the league was looking forward to the club’s presentation and anticipated a positive reaction from clubs. Swanpool and Tatong remain attached to Ovens and Kings Football League as administrative entities with no on-field presence, but Munro said both could fold as a result of the new club.

Some incredibly important games coming up between the middle tier sides. Anyone from bonnie doon, whorouly, bright, moyhu, and greta could make the finals in any order. Quite amazing actually. Whorouly with tough draw, greta with easy draw. Moyhu starting to get a roll on. Tough draw against probably tarra for sixth place. Anyone think they can predict the end of season ladder now?

Love your optimism on the Blues but we'll have to improve. We couldn't beat Moyhu, Whorouly or Bonnie Doon at home earlier in the season so playing them away will be challenging.
Even King Valley next week, especially with Wayne Carey in town will be hard to beat at home. But I'm still glass half full though................

Greta's draw and percentage will keep it in striking distance. One upset could put them right in the mix again. A win against the valley will be important as well. Away games will hurt though.

Okay so 6 rounds to go. Who's tipping who for grandfinal appearances and baker medal?
With not many rounds left surely we will see john McCormick pull on the boots in the next couple rounds
