Haha prob not anymore after this game. Pretty happy I play footy instead of the opposite job just quietly...

My suggestion is to pick up the whistle in the early game and see how tough the gig really is. Ive done it before and it has made me sharpen up my respect for the umps and their decisions

from what I've heard couple of the travelling recruits have had to play 2s because of the points system!
I dont follow this comp too closely but im told Doon very confident of being top 2 this season.Looking at team list im amazed they can stay within the points laws.No stars amongst them but atleast 8 from the north metro comps must carry points?Even noticed travelling recruits playing 2s recently would that be form, injuries or enforced selection to get under the points allocated ?Surely they will get within 8gls or are they just wasting $$$$.

Few of them lads live local down here, so as long as they're still getting their coin and bringing it back to help our local economy I'm sure it's cool. :thumbsu:

Been a bit of it happening around this area too I believe, again if the players get paid then the clubs can wear it thru their books for their inability to count ha ha

Wouldn't think they would be getting paid to play 2s tho, heard one of the Doon players should be a 1 point player but got made a 2 point player because of a one of game last year for his junior club!

Silly boy then, why play a "one-off" unless of course it was well paid or he did a sportsman night afterwards like Fev or one of those on the tour.

I believe he only played to get match fitness because he had been on a holiday and Doon had a bye, he only played 2s because he didn't want to take someone's spot in the senior side that had been training and playing, suppose he could have done the dodgy and played under someone else's name but was cleared to his old club on the Thursday night and then straight back to Doon on the Monday night, bit harsh I think

Not quite half way through the season yet but is there any early baker medal predictions??

Going to be a hard one to tip this year I reckon.

Probably no one from Tarra as they are too even a side, although Raven or McCormick could be a sneaky outside chance.

Ben Clarke out for the next 8-10 weeks and Norman missing for a good chunk of the season takes them out of the running, so Jack Stamp could get a few extra votes and Luke Fox has been great so far.

Herbert could be Doon's best bet, but will they remember to combine the votes under his original surname (Greening)? Although Cosaitis will draw a few if he continues the way he has been going.

Don't think that anyone from outside of those top four clubs would be in the mix.

This why the rules have been put in. To stop blokes just going back and forth from clubs. It may be harsh but everyone knows the rules now so should have been thought about. Lesson learnt by everyone.

Guess he wouldn't have done it if he had of known but it was last year.

No one really knew what was happening with points system last year

but loss of bar sales will hurt!

In the “easy to pick” games I was lucky to pick three wins – The bats look like they stole one from Greta, and Tarra made hard work of it in the Kennel. Whorouly took more than just the bar takings for their “away game” against North Wang – did I actually hear that properly? Did Whorouly not let North Wang run the bar? Talk about kicking a bloke while he is down…..

I went out to Tarra again this week, and I have to say that it was a less than convincing win. Whilst you can't doubt the skills and the formation, I just don't think they matched up well against the Valley. Kaz at full back was on a bloke 15kg and 2 inches bigger, and all around the ground the Valley just had some big bodies that Tarra had a hard time matching up on - there were two blokes for KV weighing in at over 110kg's. In the end the Tarra players were quicker and more agile and this enabled them to win it convincingly in the final quarter.

In one way I was vindicated in my thoughts on BD V Milawa – I just picked it the wrong way. I seriously can’t believe that a 13 goal flogging can be put down to some unavailability’s? The next round in a fortnight between Milawa and King Valley will be telling.

Likewise – Bright must surely be in crisis mode now? They are playing The Bats in a fortnight.

I was most disappointed by my prediction in Benella – looks like it was a good game, but not as close as I thought.

However I am just drooling about the next round – so many questions:

What would have been floggings 8 months ago are getting interesting - Can Benalla be competitive against Tarra, are Glenrowan on the way back up - can Whorouly stretch them?

Bats and Bright, Moyhu and Milawa, King Valley and Bonnie Doon – all worth 8 points.

Another weekend of surprise results.....yes teams have players in and out etc.
But Get it forward is spot on, there is never a time when any club has its absolute first pick side available every week, or even that often.
You just hope you do at the pointy end when you need it the most.

It's always disappointing to see people complaining about the umpiring and implying that it has effected the result of a game.
I acknowledge that we do get some umpires that may not be as good as we would hope, or try and have too much of an impact on the game, but the reality is, we are getting the guys that are willing to put their hand up to do it. How many of us are willing to do that...?
Overall I think the standard is quite good really, having said that there is one guy in particular that I shudder when I see him arrive and think
"oh god, not this idiot, he will wreck the game", but that is one guy. Maybe some of the "experts" that bag them out should put their hand up.

Will have to say well done to Bonnie Doon. They looked a lot more impressive than I have seen before this year. Still don't believe they are as good as Tarra or Glenrowan at full strength though. But I have already been proven wrong once. Milawa full strength will be a different story also but that may not happen this year. Think like people say on here there is a lot of excuses of people being out injured every week but the reality is no team is full strength all year. always injuries. teams with Depth will win the games through the year and ultimately win the flag also.
Bright must be very worried about their year. They are a strong chance not even to play finals at this stage. Big fall from pre-season predictions from a lot of people. including myself.
It is an interesting ladder at the moment with Milawa and Glenrowan both out of the top 2. Will make it hard for them to win flag from outside top 2. Good for the league if we have them finish outside top 2 and maybe at least one new face in the GF.

I think you will find that nth wang don't have a liquor licence for the whorouly rec reserve, not the reason of denying the club bar sales! I was more upset at having to drink vb as they had run out of Carlton draught early on as they were unaware of the change in venue!

Every year turns out a bit different to early predictions, but this year is very different. I think it's good, it reminds everyone about the nature of footy!! You can recruit well, have a top pre season....but you still have to play 18 rounds of hard physical footy, plus practice matches, finals, training etc. That's a lot of work between the start of a campaign and a grand final.....a lot of chance for injury, fatigue not to mention work and family etc. That's why grand finals are hard to get to and even harder to win. And that's also why they feel so good when you do!! that's footy.
The side that finishes top of the ladder still has a huge amount of work to do to win the big one.....

This isn't making sense - I assume that Whorouly profited from having people drink at their ground, and normally those profits would have gone to North Wang - if this is the case then I can't see why they couldn't give North Wang the profits.

But seriously I agree - VB is sh!t and no-one should have to put up with that. Imagine the poor back line players - getting smashed by 19 goals, and then to drown the sorrows with VB????

I agree guys, you would think you could come to an arrangement with each other over that. Whorouly could reasonably ask for some % for using their venue, license etc and that would be fair enough, but both clubs could still benefit.

Ground contamination, particularly with something like lead can be a drawn out process, so hopefully the league and the other teams in the league can come to the party and help nth wang out a bit. You would assume that this has happened through events out of their control.
It would be easy to work something out with other clubs, though it may obviously hurt nth wang to a certain degree on fundraising through home games. Lets hope we all see some good local sportsmanship come out of this.

I played in the backline. Would rather not have a beer after the game than drink that pi$$. Haha.

If this does become a long and drawn out process (which I think most are assuming it will), the only fathomable idea that I have would be to play our home games at one of the O&M grounds in wang (subject to availability) and to train at one of the junior league ovals.

I don't think it's fair or right for the players or supporters to have to travel to wherever the opposition come from to play each week, logistically this would be a nightmare, and the club and players would lose out massively. At least if we were in town, we'd be able to set ourselves up temporarily somewhere.

The first idea I had was to maybe use Wareena Park or the Barr Reserve, but it's almost impossible to charge entry as they aren't gated, and I have no idea what their canteen and change facilities are like, which makes me think if we can't use our own ground, one of the ones in town is probably going to be the obvious choice.

However, I dare say, if this were to happen, there would be a fair bit of resistance from the O&M club as their field would be probably getting played on every week and torn to shreds. It'll be a really difficult decision for the Council/League to make but I'm sure they'll find us a temporary home should ours be unavailable.

You're right about the concept of moving to another temporary home. The problem is you are also right about how reluctant some will be to see that happen. Any other team will not want their grounds played on twice as much, and the council may be reluctant to offer the showgrounds and increase the already substantial bill for upkeep. Not sure who has jurisdiction over the rovers ground?? Rovers, RCOW or both...or some other organisation...or committee of management??

What about another O&K club nearby? Glenrowan is probably the closest to town after north wang...?

Barr reserve has very little in way of facilities, wareena park I'm not sure...might be the better option, but as you said how do you control the gate....a lot of things to weigh up

If you're talking about distance from NW then Tarra is probably closest, but again, twice the amount of play on it during the regular season may see it unfit for Finals. It's unprecendented so i've no idea whats going to happen.

It's my understanding that Jason McPhail has offered up the Glenrowans ground for the Hawks to train on, not sure if that's with them or on different days. Still doesn't help with a playing arena though.
