Or click on individual club websites to see clearances from just a certain team

Poor Cal McLay, looks like a season ending knee injury out of a practice game. Must be shattering for him and Albury. He will be to a very hard man to replace in many ways. Albury has had a very bad run with knee injuries in the last 2 years but this one may effect them the worst yet. Good luck to a young bloke who had a great year and helped his club to win a premiership. Hope his recovery goes well. Spargo would be a shattered man also.

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

Can you point us towards those tax cases & rulings Dogmatic, would be very interested to read, as to date tax on football payments has been a big grey area.

You have to read quite a few bits and pieces together and then add a touch of your own poetic licence - that's the fun (?) of tax law.

If you hop on www.ato.gov.au and search the legal database in the top right corner, you'll get a little interesting reading and heaps of not so interesting stuff.

Try searching keywords and see what comes up. E.G. SGR 2009/1 gives a great flow through example. It's a superannuation ruling but the basic principles are the same. Some of the numbers are a little high for most local footy but the principles are the same.

Read that along with a heap of class rulings (CR) on umpire payments to get a better feel for the level of payment for hobby that the ATO will stomach.

Then have a look at the Joanna Stone (javelin thrower) case re the nature of payments.

All of this is ATO material so is bound to be conservative (low numbers). It gives a taste of what they'll cop though.

On Other news, how is North Albury shaping up, i havent heard anything about them for quite some time (which is unusual) anyone going to stand up this year, a few of the younger guys like bradshaw brown holman's might have to stand up so they can try replace horn godde brain
Any thoughts?

North had a practice match against Ainslie on the weekend in which i hear they were more than competitive apart from the 1st quarter. Seems a very similar story to their practice match against Albury the week before when they were run all over in the 1st half, yet fought on well in the second. Horn, Brain and Godde will be losses hard to fill, but add the experience of Cupido and Price and the development of a lot of young guys they used for much of last season and, injuries pending, are not looking too bad.

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

Any news on how the Bulldogs went in thier prac match? You would think they wouldn't have had too many troubles beating a Murray league side but wondering how the recruits went for the dogs. cheers

Apparently Ainsley were supposed to win!!

Lavington 10 point winners...

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

From all reports appears to be collecting quite a lot of ball. Very strong and sublime skills both sides. Could be a great pick up for North.
i got told he was out on the kinorss having a rather large punt!!! and looked very big not sure if over weight but very top heavy

What is the obsession about gambling, no pun intended, but I'd like a $ for every player in the O&M that has a punt, big deal, it's almost like people are suggesting he's got away from the big smoke because he's got a gambling problem. He might punt larger than you and I, but then again he might have more kanga in his pocket also.

As for his weight, the less intensive training that comes with a minor league may mean he's a bit heavier than when in the AFL, he's a big unit across the chest and shoulders, may be carrying a few kgs around the middle, but is so classy that he can get away with it at this level. It remains to be seen if carrying some extra weight, brings on injuries or not.

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

which ruckman was it whiterod who they picked up from walla

Not sure of name but looked impressive, big boy.
Are Corowa short of numbers for Tossol to play or just had a few unavailable.

They looked good early moving ball quickly & their use of it, but when Benalla's kids got use to pace of game, their endevour & attack on ball & body was pretty good.

They outrun Corowa & won by about 5-6 goals in the end.

Rumours abound that Corowa only have a registered playing list numbers in the mid-twenties. Tossol playing in a practice match does nothing to quell that rumour.

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

G'Day all, I am heading up to Howlong for the Easter break, and interested in watching a decent game of footy. Suggestions on which would be the best game to watch competitively. Don't want to see a one sided belting if possible. Used to go to Tocumwal at Easter time and saw enough beltings in the Murray league over the years.

Why don't you develop your own juniors or at least get off your sunburnt Queensland backsides and come and have a look for yourselves instead of trying to use this forum as a recruiting tool.

Re: Ovens and Murray Part 3

Best big man. Alex Popko, might carry a bit of extra pudding, but is one of the guns in the league from what i have heard

Alex is definatly a good player, not that big but is very smart!

what about each teams under-achievers the guys who do great stuff on the field and never get a mention

Albury - Andrew Robinson
Raiders - James Dickson
North Albury - Kade Brown
Corowa - Mick collins
Wangaratta - Jai Canny
Myrtleford - Aaron McIroy
Cant rattle off all the teams because i dont see them to often, any thoughts?
