Also as a side a few years in and (taking in to consideration the Ovens and Murray as well is )the saviour that everyone wanted whose club at that moment in time was not winning the salary cap and points system working as the great equaliser .
Remember this was the knee jerk , quick fix solution to equalisation to solve the historical problem of Clubs having in
Historically terms a short run of dominance . Looking back through Premiership winners over the years in any competition. History indicates that that small runs of dominance come and go probably determined by who’s administrating at the time .
Well now it’s just beautiful we have clubs due mainly to the points system who cannot re build as they cannot bring anymore than 3-4 quality players a year . This doesn’t improve them enough so instead of this players hanging around the next year and loosing a point then top up again with 3 more , they leave cos they don’t like getting flogged - so they never get any better . The top clubs loose points every year and If are smart top up every year , play near the points maximum and keep boiling along . So the clubs that were strong when points came in , if managed correctly stay up and the lower clubs get further behind . The administrators of that club get disillusioned and have enough as do the players , cos it takes too long and then bang your in trouble .
The clubs at the top find it easier to recruit and have to pay less for stars as they offer success and there current stars hang around cos they are having success and play for less and loose points every year .
The ladder for the last 3 years in both comps is showing this .
The idea of the points system was in essence for clubs to keep there juniors . That’s handy - we have 4 junior clubs in the o and k of which some senior clubs have no alignment . So keeping juniors as one pointers isn’t going to happen and impossible for clubs without alignment . So minimum 2 points for any new player and realistically if comes from this area throw 1 point penalty on . So 3 points .
And that’s for a reserves player a senior player throw on another 1 so 4 points . Bring in 4 of them and all of a sudden . Your total points is getting real close . The points and salary cap is widening the gap between the current haves and have nots ! The junior pathway exemption in our competition is realistically irrelevant!

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning troop?

Anyone else heard that kyle raven has been training back at the rovers, one must ask is he flying under the radar to slot back into the dogs forward line with hoggan being ushered into the backline?

Highly doubt hoggan would be playing too often in defense with what he brings as a forward

2 games of interest this wèek that could see some shuffling at the bottom end of the 6... I haven’t seen Bright play yet but I think they'll be hard to roll up there. As for Greta v Glenrowan, if the full Glenrowan side turn up they will win.

One Frazer Judd and possibly another Wang 2s player. Not even you would be silly enough to tip against them now Arn

Has he been cleared, Ive heard maggies wont clear them to any of the "Big 3" sides. Lets hope so because that would be a positive stance and would be a good thing for the O&K

Cleared to play this week. Not sure as a club you could say we won’t clear you to this club but you can go to this one!

What is happening to this competition?
Thirds are practically gone - twos are on the way out ! Why is this happening?
Everyone wants to discuss and point fingers at money in football . The facts are with absolutely no doubt that season 2018 in relation to factoring in time frames , relativity etc there has never been less money paid in match payments. There is a salary cap of 70k which for all intents and purposes is being adhered too Until proof rather than hear say proves otherwise . It is the lowest salary cap nearly in country footy . People forget that in the 50, 60, 70’s huge money was paid in relative terms to footballers huge money and in some cases in the present thank Christ all clubs are paying players a few bob or else this situation would be worse .
So why are clubs struggling to field reserves sides or get players in general?
There is no doubt that there are less players willing to participate- so let’s acknowledge that - ok But....
Like every successful club or any successful organisation everything starts at the top .
What leadership is shown other than a shrug of the shoulders by the O and K board - what are they doing to help increase participation. The plight of the o and k and potential rebound of the o and k needs to let by the anonymous board of the o and k . The league is in turmoil due to participation yet what initiatives and acknowledgments are coming out of the board , those chosen and who put their hands up to lead us ? The revival of the league must start from the top . The poor people that work their ass off for their clubs going and make sure that all the growing AFL Neb and league fees are paid cannot do any more . They receive no direction or help from the board in any way to arrest what is happening here ??
Then throw in the AFL who are charged with the responsibility of increased participation and all they are interested in is increased revenue! What are they doing to help your club and your league ? All they are really good at is sending invoices and making sure they get there 50k or so from the O and K to ineffectively run our competition, which for 100 years was run by a volunteer league secretary .
A lot of you on here will not understand the pressure and time that are put on your club administrators to keep your club going , it’s insane .
So I see the answer as clubs must ask themselves what is the leaders of this competition doing to save it ? Are they the right people to lead it or are they just sitting there nodding their heads ?!? AFL Neb really what are they doing in regards to leadership ? Collectively we are all one and are being lead by others . What are they doing to lead us out of this . If nothing is done in 5 - 10 years we will be an 8-10 team merged team competition with no reserves or thirds . This is not a prediction it’s a fact . Clubs must lift expectations and ask questions and be concerned as a whole and our leaders must forget everything they know and start again or else they will be the ones who destroyed the competition !

afl only interested in putting dollars and resources into PC agendas. no interest in a cornerstone of country communities - local footy

The right decision was made. Just let the kid enjoy his footy again.
Someone buy Dr Truth a beer, summed up that joke of an organization in less then a paragraph!

Also great to see Jase back under his original alias.

Interesting day out at the Rec Reserve slim.
Glenrowan Led by 34 at qtr time then by 52 at half time which was delayed for over 30 Mins due to one of our boys being knocked out and ambulance called etc. fair bit of feeling in the rooms at the main break after some really disappointing behaviour by one of the Glenrowan players fathers, ambulance were attending to the player who had been lapsing in and out of consciousness and was bleeding profusely from the face and the Glenrowan supporter abused the ambulance officrz for taking too long to get him off the ground. Thankfully the Glenrowan players themselves got the supporter off the ground quick before it caused any trouble.

Then after the break we outscored them 8.5 to 2.3. Had our chances to get in front in the last bit innaccurate kicking at goal hurt us. I think we missed 5 set shots all very gettable in the second half.

Yep. Goose of the week goes to Darcy Laffy’s dad. Even his son was telling him to shut up. I have to acknowledge that the Glenrowan players & officials were brilliant & everyone was genuinely concerned for Robbie’s welfare until this spud came in & started mouthing off about how long it was taking the Ambos to do their job. According to him the boy “only had a blood nose”. All this while Robbie was drifting in & out of consciousness being attended by Paramedics. The guy seems a very naive human being with little sense of occasion.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from a glenrowan supporter.

Pack of **** heads.

Gotta take ya hat off to Greta. To get that close to glenrowan is a great effort.
Even if they weren’t at full strength. To me it’s not about who is in or out each week. Good teams will have good depth and play good consistent footy.

Also bright would have to be the biggest pretenders so far in seniors and reserves.
OAK FM talking them up Friday night having some good players in, and for them to come out a dish up a plate of shit football at home is disgraceful, I feel sorry for anyone who payed to get into that game.

Would hope the umpires made a report on the incident about the abuse from him and the League take action on this matter
Need to come down hard on this ,a ban from attending any further game for the rest of the year.
No excuses for this behaviour towards Paramedics

I'm sure that Glenrowan will take some action

Milawa were super impressive before the bye against us, perhaps they have started to hit their straps big time.

Did Bright have some outs, 140 points is a smashing for a team many predicted to be 4th or 5th on the ladder
