Food/Supplements Paleo Diet

Because I'm not on it yet I haven't actually downloaded them - just looked at them a few weeks ago. But off the top of my head two are called: Paleo Diets and myKitchen. Just do a google search there are others.

EDIT: I'm on android.

With regard to alcohol...

I used to suffer from hay fever in the mornings but I've noticed it all but disappears the closer I get to eating proper paleo. After a bit of investigation it seems grains can be a trigger for some people.

Problem is whenever I have a few beers it comes back the next morning, so I'm thinking of switching to gin and tonic since it's one of the only other alcoholic beverages I really enjoy. Not quite as manly and I doubt I'd order it when having a drink out with friends, but it will do for when I feel like a quiet drink to unwind at home.

Nerd Fitness is great, I also like Eat Drink Paleo and The Fat Burning Man (although he really pissed me off a few weeks ago when he interviewed an anti-vaccine chiropractor )

Meanwhile, what do people think about avocados, as in...how many is too many? I don't know if they're in season right now but I can't get enough. Since I discovered a few healthy recipes using them (yummy guacamole, chocolate mousse!) I'm eating 1-2 every day. I know they are a good source of good fat and several micronutrients but they are also quite calorically dense. I guess it's a balancing act between nutrients and too many calories (I am trying to lose a bit of weight). Thoughts?

Same here, i love them. And the best thing to go with Avo is curry powder, either in a sauce or sprinkled on in a sandwich. They are made for each other.

Avo's are great, just so expensive!!

Please don't give me any more ideas!
Should try it. And remember its not about "heat" but the combination of flavors. Keens mild curry powder in moderation is made for it.

Fresh warm chicken breast, Gruyere or Swiss cheese, mashed avocado with a sprinkle of curry powder in between two slices of fresh warm Bakers Delight Cape seed bread is heaven.

[Not Paleo, but still heaven]

Another view on Paleo, obviously has a vested interest in opposing Paleo but still some interesting points!

No, i thought the article was stupid and not a representation on what paleo is about.

It's a sustainable diet from an environmental pov when you consider one of it's highest principles is to consume ethical, grassfed meat. The world would be in a much better position if we all ate organic, happy meat rather than the disaster that is going on now.

The crap about paleo diet not being a true reflection of our ancestors diet - yawn, who gives a shit. Show me the nutritional flaws contained in the true paleo diet, not from some incoherent and incorrect interpretation. I will never ever ever care whether its a true reflection on what ancestors ate. Only care about the nutritional facts.

The bullshit about saturated fats clogging arteries - "hello 1950, i'm calling for my cutting edge research"... seriously, this is being acknowledged as bullshit by everyone. Get with the program.

Monsanto goods are not good for you. Cut out grains as much as possible because grains are what's causing the metabolic disease, whether through inflammation or insulin resistance. Especially, refined sugar and flour.

Paleo doesn't say you should eat the amount of meat promoted in that article. Eat a bit of good, grassfed meat and a hell of alot of veggies. Not a thing wrong with that.

Article is bloody stupid.

The Heart of the Matter

Does high cholesterol really increase your risk of heart attacks?

The Heart of the Matter

Is the role of cholesterol in heart disease really one of the biggest myths in the history of medicine?

For the last four decades we’ve been told that saturated fat clogs our arteries and high cholesterol causes heart disease. It has spawned a multi-billion dollar drug and food industry of “cholesterol free” products promising to lower our cholesterol and decrease our risk of heart disease.

But what if it all isn’t true? What if it’s never been proven that saturated fat causes heart disease?

In this special two part edition of Catalyst, Dr Maryanne Demasi investigates the science behind the claims that saturated fat causes heart disease by raising cholesterol.

And apparently, coconut oil ain't the best either.

http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/coconut-oil-and-health

At least fat is out there in the media! But wtf is this:
even though coconut oil is cholesterol-free, it is still a saturated fat that needs to be limited in the diet and if you are looking for real health benefits, switch from saturated fats to unsaturated fats by using vegetable oils like soybean, canola, corn, or olive oil

Well this is...disappointing:

In fact, the rates of cardiovascular disease have fallen in countries where efforts have been made to reduce saturated fat intake, but have risen in developing countries where consumption has increased.
Dietary guidelines are based on careful interpretation of sound scientific evidence, that has withstood scrutiny and shouldn’t be so easily discarded.

In fairness, most of the article was a commentary of this article ttp://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f6340 and a response to it. That article was written by someone with experience

YES!!! Massive conflict of interest. Did you see the guy from the heart foundation on catalyst last night.

DOP needs to scrutinise the articles he allows published... For shame.

Zero cred DawOfPromotion

The biggest conflict of interest is the Guy that is behind the Food Pyramid was on the wheat board!

Coincidently bread & cereal are highly recommended , shame a few butchers weren't on the board!

America have ruined people's health, ruined the worlds finances & love war, great country not.

Eat more Canola lol
It smells horrible and it burns quickly. I'm glad I cut it out.

I actually feel good since I've upped my intake of saturated fats and started avoiding things like processed chips which have cheap vege oils galore.

I still like white rice I just don't overload on it. I just can't eat that much fat so I need a bit of carbs for energy.

Every shitty thing that has come out of the US has been accompanied by two awesome things.

Agree about the food pyramid etc.
