Nice bit of blatant home town rigging in the surfing, no way was that last scoring ride by the Frenchman the best ride of the heat.

Truly why I really just hate sports that have results decided by Judges.

I am going to try and do an adjusted medals table for the whole Olympics but I suspect come the end of week 1 I am going to struggle to keep up as 30 and 40 medals are handed out some days.

Ever since a few weeks after Atlanta, when Oz for the first time had won more than 1 team event, it won 4 , Hockeyroos won gold, the Kookaburras bronze, the Opals bronze and the softball team won bronze which meant 59 individuals from team sports won medals, I have looked at how many medals are actually handed out not the 1 medal for the event placing.

I did an adjusted total medals table for the top 10 nations. In Sydney I did it for 4 or 5 teams and I also worked out for Oz 55 individuals took home a gold medal, 55 a silver and 51 a bronze = 161 individuals took home at least 1 meadal, when multiple medals were take out of the list eg only counted one of Thorpe's medal not 5.

Since then I've done the top 3 or 4 plus Oz. It has gotten harder with extra medals handed out for relay heats swimmers and teams have a number for their squad, but most can have travelling emergencies so if they play they get medals as well.

I usually am slack and take a few weeks after the game to calculate some numbers. Wiki now listing all the "extra" medal winners does make it easier to tally them all up but it means double checking a lot of things.

I've written this somewhere before but cant find it, but in Tokyo the following top 3 nations were the biggest winner of team sports;

USA 12 teams 5G 3S 1B => 53G 39S 22B = 114 team sports individuals took a medal home
FRA 8 teams. 3G 2S 1B => 44G 24S 12B = 80 individual medals
JAP 18 teams 2G 1S 0B => 39G 12S 0B.. = 51 individual medals

I'm pretty sure you wont find a table like below anywhere. I have spent over 25 years trying to find one example.

Day 1 adjusted medals table.

Combat sports award 2 bronze medals, they don't expect people to have to do an extra round to beat each other up to win bronze, so there are 2 extra bronzes for the 2 Judo finals in Day 1.

Day 1 adjustments;
Diving Women's 3m springboard synchronised awarded 2 medals per placing
Shooting Mixed 10m air rifle team awarded 2 medals per placing

Rugby 12 is the size of the squad with 2 travelling emergencies FRA 13 players received gold Fiji 14 silver SAF 13 bronze

Swimming heat swimmers get medals as well. They said they would be on the podium here but they weren't
Women's 4x100m Free AUS 6 gold, USA 6 silver, China 5 bronze
Men's 4x100m Free USA 6 gold, Aus 5 Silver, ITA 6 bronze

Edit Day 2 onward I will stick in the General Discussion thread.
