Kaylee McKeown. That is all. What a superstar. Men’s 4x200m relay team were excellent, everyone did their job. Winnington especially given he swum the 800m less than an hour prior. Speaking of which, not sure why he burnt his petrol tickets by 300m, but glad he had something for the relay. ZSC pulled off the most remarkable final 50m in his 200m heat, and probably gave a few Australians heart attacks along the way.
Women’s rugby 7’s somehow missed out on a medal. Didn’t see that coming. A day they would like back. Boomers lost, probably expected, but a disappointing second half marred by turnovers and poor shooting cost us dearly. Women’s 3x3 basketball team didn’t turn up until the game was already over, a disappointing start to their Olympics.
Day 5 highlights:
Swimming is once again the focus. All eyes on O’Callaghan and Chalmers in the 100m finals, plus ZSC in the 200m breaststroke. Matilda’s back in action, hoping to avoid a US beatdown. Jessica Fox aims for a second gold in Paris, and she is every chance to do so. Logan Martin is in the BMX park final. Popryin had a great win against Wawrinka, but his reward is a clash against the in-form Zverev. We have QF action in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Wouldn’t be highlights without mentioning the volleyball. Two powerhouses go head to head first up with Poland vs Brazil. Japan finally return to the court against Argentina. If you haven’t caught any of the volleyball, do so. You won’t be disappointed.
Jess Fox…could she do it again?!
