Just on the Dutch converting top placings into golds its just not that, its also the percentage of their total team that took home gold and medals. I have to complete this for the top 10 but so far I have done 4. Here are Netherlands and USA.

The Dutch had 5 individual multiple medallists and all won at least a gold medal.

So 23.6% of the 258 strong Dutch team took home a gold medal and 40.7% took home a medal. That compares very favourable with the USA team and its athletes.

The USA had 44 individual multiple medallists. 35 of those 44, won a gold medal + at least 1 other medal.

42.2%

So 18.6% of the USA's team of 592 athletes took home gold, so less than the Dutch and 42.2% took home home a medal, slightly more than the Dutch.

Both were helped a lot by winning several of the 8 x 2 (men and women) team sport medals. USA's 8 out of 16 potential medals was the most, France won 7 (2G 5S) and Netherlands next with 4. along with Spain and Germany won 4.

USA 3G 1S 4B = 8 ==> 44G 13S 41B = 98
NED 3G 0S 1B = 4 ==> 37G 0S 13B = 50

The Dutch had won or medaled in many events where many medals were handed out eg won the men's Quad Sculls, the women's Coxless 4, women's Coxless Pairs, the 4x400m Mixed relay (5 golds), Cycling Men's Team Sprint (3) women's sailing 49FX (2) and 6 individual gold medal events. But also minor medals like silver in women's Quad Sculls, Rowing Men's eights - cox gets medal as well so 9, etc,

I will do Oz and NZ in a separate post.

Oz did Ok but didn't win enough team sports gold or events with multiple medallists to challenge the Dutch, USA, China, France, Great Britain and even Spain

Oz had 16 individual multiple medallists. 7 of those 16, won a gold medal + at least 1 other medal

The Kiwis IMO did better than Oz.

NZ had 4 individual multiple medallists. 3 of those 4, won a gold medal + at least 1 other medal

So 12.3% of the NZ's team of 195 athletes took home gold, and 22.6% took home home a medal. This is a better return for NZ than Oz.

Team Sport medals
Oz 0G 1S 1B = 2 ==> 0G 13S 12B = 25 from 10 teams of a possible 16 entered
NZ 1G 0S 0B =1 ==> 12G 0S 0B = 12 from 5 teams entered.
If they had of won the Men's Rugby as tipped, they would have looked even better, but SAF knocked them out in the 1/4 finals.

Medals summary
Oz 18G 19S 16B = 53 ==> 31G 46S 44B = 121
NZ 10G 7S 3B = 20 ===> 28G 15S 7B = 50

This is amazing. I haven't heard Ch 9 commentators talk about it, but I might have missed them doing so.
