Just gotta pick the right feed. Don’t select the track feed on Stan. Pick the integrated athletics feed. That has commentary
Womens high jump for example i can't find any replay with commentary.

Just the full event or highlights with no commentary.

The session coverage with commentary hardly shows anything from field mostly track events.

Holder looked really impressive for about 330m then I couldn't work out if he was stuffed or was trying to save himself a bit and struggled with balance a bit.

Great effort to do a PB in your first run at an Olympics.
he went out like a madman and looked absolutely cooked coming off the last bend. arms flailing, body rocking and and I’m pretty sure he looked around cause he was expecting to get swamped.
after watching all these show ponies cruise around and ease up before the line it’s great to see someone seriously hurt and get rewarded for it.
it wasn’t pretty but damn it was effective.
I’d love to know what his 200 splits were.
Race of the night for me.

Heard a replay of Bruce's call this morning on ABC Radio. He wasnt sure but thought it was Lyles.

Live I heard Bruce's first 4 or 5 seconds before I turned it down for Gerard's call.

It looks like because of rights holder issues ABC wont put up his call online for now. But over time I suspect someone will get a copy and put it to the vision like they have done with Tim Lane's call of Freeman's 400m race in Sydney.

On ABC Radio Adelaide they replayed the call this morning and then went to this interview with Bruce which you can listen to at the link below. He says its the best 100m race he's seen/called. I know he was in London calling the swimming for IOC international feed, but I'm pretty sure he didn't get a gig for anyone with the athletics. I make it his 10th 100m Olympic final call.

Only times in history two Aussies stand on the Olympic athletics dais together - and all women
Didn't Boyle and Lamy also both medal in the 200m in 1968?

Last night I heard on radio they said the margin was 2/1000ths of a second and wrote that in here. That was in fact was the difference in reaction time, Thompson 0.176 v Lyles 0.178.

Lyles ran 9.784 vs Thompson 9.789 and difference is 5/1000ths sec. In athletics they round up, not down.

That's why you get 9.79 for both and the same time as another bloke crossed the finish line first in, in 1988.

Several commentators/journos/media types have asked what does 5/1000ths sec. mean or even look like.

A 100m track in millimetres is 100 x 100 = 10,000mm. So if we look at a 1/1000th of a second is a single unit X of time, Lyles covered 10,000mm in 9,784 X units of time, and Thompson 10,000mm in 9,789 X units of time, so the winning margin was about 1.02mm

Yeah you won’t find individualised track and field events with commentary. OBS don’t have a specific team just calling individual events; there’s too much time in between them all for there to be specialised callers.

Hence you get the integrated feed with all the different events plus commentary, or the isolated feed with the one event but no commentary.

I prefer the integrated feed and then mashing the +10sec button in between events.

Integrated feed is fine if they show a fair share of the field events.

Sadly this is often not the case.

All the track events get shown in full i think?

Unfortunately, it's always like this at the major competitions..Frustrating if you're a big field events fan...At least showing full coverage without commentary this time around is something tho

When foxtel had the 8 channel coverage of the 2012 london games all the field events had full commentary.

Only time i have ever seen it.

You wouldn't think it would be too hard to do.

Its a long time ago, but in Sydney, Channel 7 had their C7 24 hour sports station on Optus Vision to compete with Fox Sports on Foxtel, during the Olympics they had 3 C7 Olympic channels. I got Optus Vision in 1998 in Sydney, so that I could watch Port games on C7 as it was rare they were shown on Channel 7.

During the athletics part of the games, one channel was dedicated to live field events and they had commentary, with 2 commentators, Dave Culbert and I think the other one was Wally Foreman. It was someone experienced in sport like Wally, but not a normal Ch 7 sports broadcaster. Wally was still involved in WAIS at the time and not at the ABC and that's why i think it was him.

I watched the full HJ stream on laptop while I had 9 on the TV..

It had commentary when I saw it - two women, a pom & a kiwi.

And this one - though not exactly full replay has commentary by Culbert & Hooker

That was a great Olympics coverage wise. I remember Foxtel’s specialised ipad app just for that Games, it felt revolutionary

Foxtel & 9 was the worst coverage and commentary I have ever seen/heard.

After a day or two I switched off and found a world feed stream which had Bruce McAvaney & Nicole Livingstone (swimming) & Bruce also doing aths later on.

I tweeted how thankful I was to have found it. Nicole tweeted me to ask if she could get the link as friends of hers had also found the Aussie coverage woeful.

I more meant in terms of breadth and depth. 2008 and prior I’m pretty sure we were still limited to whatever 7 decided to dish up on their main channel and their co-op deal with SBS.

Being able to pick and choose was fairly revolutionary.

But I digress. Looking forward to another big night on the track.

Men's discus has been one of the best events in field & track this year. And Matt Denny has been a big part of it.

His first round throws all year have been great. Can he qualify for the final with just one throw?

We'll know in the next five or ten minutes.
