Coaching Staff Past Coach: Matthew Knights - Finally gets his second shot - 5/5

There was been a lot of conjecture in the media world as well as a lot on these boards about Knighter and our current situation regarding ladder position, game plan, fade outs and the team in general.

Threads and posts coming left right and centre about how Matthew Knights should be sacked as the coach of the Essendon football club and we are not going in the right direction under his guidance etc.

These people are wrong.

Matthew Knights promised the Essendon Football club that he would get us into the finals. He achieved this goal earlier than anticipated. The style in which he plays is the style to bring us forward. Fast, attacking, risk taking everything that is required to succeed in modern day football penetrating certain zones put in place to combat slow play. Knights has begun a trend for modern day coaches.

He has made the list his own, recruiting his own players as well as clearing out the players which he believes will not be there to take us forward. He has made tough decisions on senior members, and made a stand on his beliefs whether the leadership group and more importantly the playing geoup accept them or not. This has lef to the trust and belief of the playing group and they respect him and his ethics immensly.

Now I have ALWAYA been a fan of Matthew Knights, even through some of the stupidities which he has been a part of (EF etc) but I have faith that he, Matthew Knights is the main to take the Essendon football club to its next premiership.

Watching him on the couch last night re ignited the love that I have for him as the coach of out senior team.

He is the right man to make us a serious force again.

Yeah.. Good luck with that. I hope the door smacks him on the ass on the way out...

As long as people are happy with sub efforts like today, we're never going to achieve success like we once had.

Re: Sorry, Knighter its time to go!

You're kidding yourself if you think Hird is ready to coach within 3 years. Not enough 'c' in him (like buckley and voss) to be an effective coach nor does he have to live and die by football. I doubt there's another recently retired player out there as financially well off as Hird.

Really wish the Hird references would die. A useful development coach? Yes. A game-day coach? No.

Re: Sorry, Knighter its time to go!

Overreact? Six loses in a row, beaten by the bottom side. The club will continue to go nowhere with Knights as coach.

Matthew Knights isn't the one on the ground making rookie mistakes. He's the guy that's going to cop it first, but ALOT of those players are not worthy of wearing that red and black jumper.

Re: Sorry, Knighter its time to go!

When comments were made during the week about his contract, it didn't take into account us losing tonight. Wonder who will be coaching next week? Anyone?

Open the eyes, the coach always cops the blame, it is the way it is, or do we not blame Sheeds any more as lots here have done, can't have one without the other.

Yep - well said Godzke

Goodbye Knighter.

It was fun while it lasted. I got a good laugh out of the no ruckman in a final debacle.

The "we are tracking along nicely, except for win-loss ratio" statement.

The lets get belted by a wooden spoon interstate wide at Etihad.

"I welcome the pressure"... :D

Matthew Knights = Peter Rhode.

I wholeheartedly support Matthew Knights

LOL, and I wholeheartedly support K Rudd NOT, M Knights=dead man walking

As much as the fans dislike him, I think he will end up seeing out his contract.

Essendon are in a rebuilding phase and I don't think that Matthew Knights is purely to blame for these results. If Essendon get rid of Knights early it will achieve nothing because the list just isn't up to it right now. If you get a new coach they will probably have the same issues until the younger guys develop and the players who aren't up to it retire or get moved on

But he is picking them all, and this is his list that he has built. He didn't want to change the list much.

Similar thing can be said about our current coach.

Having said that what if Hird was to be 2nd in charge to a Mark Williams or Leigh Matthews for 2 years, then take over?? Some men are leaders and some are not from what I've seen of Hird he looks to me as being a leader, and someone who would have the utmost respect from the playing group. As a captain he coached on the field and I know for an absolute fact he was to become coach we could not be worse off than what we are now.

Nah...damage has been done now...should get rid of him at years end...along with every other coach (except for richardson).
Everyone knows the list aint as bad as it is playing....
but MK i simply not a good coach...
