According to this, Sheedy on the Knightsw sacking: "No comment. Leave me out of it. No comment."

It's a bit late for that, there's already blood on your hands Kev.

And according to this, "Unless things dramatically in my life, it's just not going to happen," Hird said.

You told us to sack him, so you could get the job, now you don't want it? WTF?!? ;P

Hird never told anyone to sack Knights. I think we can all see that Hird is unlikely to be involved with the club for the foreseeable future.

Board, members, sponsors, senior players, past players, a lot of Bomber people wanted Knights gone.

The only people with blood on their hands are the idiots who appointed him and who extended his contract. I now applaud anyone who had anything to do with finishing this fiasco.

The transformation is complete - we are 90's Tigers, complete with the culture of sacking of coaches on a whim. We have made coaching Essendon the worst job in football.

BTW: didn't see this coming at all.

It took along time to change our culture. We had to give Frawley and Wallace long term contracts to show we can be a stable club.

The success of Geelong is due to the unprecedented support given to Bomber Thompson. Which lead tthe blame for poor performances point straight to the players and not the coach. In doing so it forced the players to take responsibility and set a player driven culture.

I think the Board at Essendon needs to be changed before the decision to appoint a coach is.... The Board have let the foxes in charge of the chicken coop.

On a side note.... the decision to axe Lloyd was probably the worst move Knights made.... the tide turned towards him like a Tsunami after that.

Have alot of time for Knighta the human AND Knighta the coach.

We have played some sensational football in the past 2 years (those photos almost brought a tear) and I do believe that his style with a little more refinement, a season or 2 more into the youngens and a few more decent and skilled players, could have seen us through to the next era of dominance.

Also, please remember all you A.D.D Gen Y kids, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Anyways, I sincerely hope that the club get there sheeyat together over the coming weeks because Robson and Evans looked mighty embarrassed last night. It's a rabble at Windy Hill.

PS- I hope Knighta spends at least 20K of his payout on an extended resort island getaway. He must be feeling like sheeyat this morning.

Hate to say it but great news.....
Think its time to go with a 'tried' coach with proven experience/results eg williams. Too risky to go with another 'untried' option!! Cant afford to make the same mistake twice at such a proud club!!

Not aiming to troll here at all have a serious question about Ray Horsbourgh. This is a guy that sacked (or rather said contract wouldn't be renewed) to Sheedy in what I thought were appalling circumstances given Sheedy is one of the game's and essendon's greats. This is then a guy that had a pretty big say in renewing Knights' contract. Now even though he's finished as chairman he remains on the board. Do you think he's up to it? Should he accept some of the responsibility?

Horsburgh was a f*king tossa to be honest. Smug w***er who had about a beez dick of footy knowledge in him. And yes, he deserves a lot of flack.

While I don't think Matty was the man to take us further forward, I believe he has left the list in a better state than when he took it over.

He has really impressed me with his demeanour and resilience over this year under enormous pressure and stress.

Thanks Matty for your commitment and effort to Essendon. Thanks for your tireless work ethic and I wish you all the best with your future endeavours. :thumbsu:

I'll give props to the man, i thought he was the right move for a while, spoke well, made good roster and selection calls.. he just couldnt motivate the players and didn't know what moves to make on match day... still earned the mil his gonna get..

Heres a question for anyone. i read in the tackle someone took a swing at him after the Brisbane game. First I've heard of it, can anyone elaborate either here or in a PM?

Thanks..

Best of luck to all of your future endeavors Knighta. It's sad that it had to end this way for you, but you left us with some mighty fine memories. Anzac Day 2009 goes down as one of the greatest games our club has ever played. Now go and enjoy your 800k, you've earnt it.

The risk is not only on the untried coaches. Williams is showing strong signs of Sheedy-esk insanity. He is already in the recycle-duds phase of football senility.

Brilliantly said, particularly the first paragraph. :thumbsu:

What?

He was getting ridiculous amounts of stick well before Rd 1, 2008.

Criticism based on what he showed as the coach of the Essendon Football Club, fine. He was copping it from all angles well before he coached the Essendon Football Club (to a 9 goal win, no less).

Ok, a bit like Ross Lyon 3 or 4 weeks into his roll at St Kilda. A couple of years later, he's a kick away from winning a flag. He united the players, united the supporters and continued a re-established St Kilda.

At any club there will be some supporters that aren't happy with the new coach. That's human nature. It's not an excuse for not delivering and failiing on most fronts as a coach.

I'm not excusing his performance. I honestly cannot remember when you or any other poster decided he wasn't the answer, so I'm not talking about anyone specifically.

All I remember was a disproportionate number of people being against him before NAB Cup even started.

Anyway, that's by the by. A new coach will have close to unanimous support - from those who didn't like Knights, and from those who did, because they're the optimistic type.

Whatever your opinion on Knights, you'd have to be feeling very excited for trade week, and then the new season.

Poor little Stander. As a true supporter he's going to miss not getting smashed by 15 goals every second week and having the club go backward.

I had a fleeting moment that I would never find flotsam like the above, or that you might really play above yourself and not resort to ridicule over the sacking of the EFC caoch.

I'll back anyone who shows the committment, integrity, enthusiasm, loyalty and resilence like that shown by Knights until the results speak for themselves.

He'll go down as a failed coach but, I hasten to add, some supporters let themselves down badly. Rines in particular, with his Houli accusations.
