Patch for AFL Live?

Hi, wondering if someone from BigAnt could give an estimated time on when the next patch for AFL Live is coming out for download.

Also, if I could choose one thing for the patch, it would be for the online mode to allow wins when another player forfeits. I don't think it's necessary for there to be a "name and shame" thread for quitters, what's the point of playing a game if your 40 points down and no chance of coming back? I certainly don't want to waste my time with it, especially with momentum in the game it's extremely hard to come back with that against you.

And maybe some experience points for comebacks or at least a badge. This will probably prevent quitters, and give them some sort of reason to keep playing

Well I wonder if that guy quits during games or not.

Ban them for 20 mins, no online play for 20 mins.

Its just a game, i came back from 5 goals down at half time, won by 7 points,

Never Never Never give up, you suck if you give up......

Oh its toooooooooooo hard, go and play another game you Nooooob

when your getting smashed or beaten badly ( not that its happened to me to often) it is the perfect time to try new things and gameplay. I remember one of my real early games i played a collingwood team that smashed me and i just ended up using it as a tester and i ended up making the gameplay that i still use now to beat people

Of course it is, if you don't want to continue in a match when you're getting beaten and 'waste your time' then what the hell are you doing online?

For everyone that sticks around through my thumpings they get a nice message and a couple of tips I can offer to improve their game. I feel that's very fair.

Didn't give me any tips when ya snatched that 1 point win last night. :p

...:(

Will try and pinch that win back tonight if your on mate. I should be on by 10-11pm.

Oh, and lol at the OP. Really hope you don't take that 'quitters attitude' into the real world. What's that saying? What's good for the Goose is good for the gander - Happy to hand out 100 point thumpings? Then be prepared to cop a few 100 point hidings as well.

I'm with everone else on this also, there's nothing more annoying than somone quitting before the last quarter!
I've been thrashed a few times and unfortunately had some tips from HBK given to me aswell  but I'd never quit. It just ruins the game and inspires other players to quit.

Lol? Its called being a pussy is what its called. Unless you are having fun being slaughtered which I doubt many people do. I certainly have no motivation to continue playing when I'm winning by 100 points halfway through the third quarter.

I have more important things to do with my time than sit through 20 minutes of a game just for the sake of "being a good sport". Quitting with 1 minute to go because you are about to lose is a completely different thing, and I think it should be punished, but there should be a mutual agreement option to end a game early when its a clear mismatch IMO.

The quit rate is currently 50%, i think when we match "like" players and quitters are matched with each other then the finish % will go up, or in any case the quitter more often handed a loss and the other side a win.

As said previously though, quitting is a mindset, I don't think they care about the leaderboard (or the other guy playing them).

As I said in the other thread, I believe this is just due to the nature of the game. When someone has an advantage they will win very, very easily. Unlike a game such as NBA 2k11 where even though the more skilled player will win easily, it won't be such a blowout as the lesser skilled player has a chance to score just as much, but will fail to score as frequently due to their lack of finishing ability, and the ability of the other player to defend better.

With afl live on the other hand, if you are better you get MUCH more of the ball, and hold onto it longer if you are a better player. Which results in massive blowouts very often.

This isn't really a bad thing, and I still think the game is very fun to play, but it means you guys are going to need to have a very solid matchmaking system to reduce the number of quitters.

It is similar to a custom map in Warcraft III called DotA. Not sure if you've heard of it, but it is one of those games where if one side is much better than the other the game will have a clear winner very early in, and it will pretty much be a case of going through the motions if it continues after that.

IMO Big Ant Studios should look into other versions of ladder experience systems. Many games opt for bell curve type systems where players have a certain amount of experience by default and once they reach a certain point begin to earn less and less experience meaning only the best players with very high win percentages get a lot of experience.

Not that the current system is bad, but I just feel matchmaking is the most important part of online, especially for a game as skill based as AFL Live is.

The other option is to increase stats of the "underdog" and decrease the other team based on score... but I don't like that idea ("rubber banding").

Yeah, fair point. I agree with you on that. As you've said before it makes the whole game pointless up until the last couple of minutes. :)

I don't really call that being a good sport, if my suggestion was in place then I would quit and cop a loss while the opposition gets a win. I don't get to sit through a mauling and the other team doesn't have to waste their time in a completely one-sided game and move onto better competition. EVERYONE wins.

And I wouldn't mind if people quit, as long as I got the win. At some games it gets to the point where I am waiting for the clock to countdown because there is no competition.

Well I don't think comparing a game to real life is equal. And I am by no means promoting quitting in the current situation, because the victim gets hurt by it. If the victim gets a win out of the match being forfeited then both parties would win.

A better way is to show the profile of the players you play when your in the lobby, check their stats etc. Or at least be able to check their reliability rating.

Dont know if this has been discussed before, but wouldn't it be easier to have the switch player button be X when defending instead of L1. Most sports games would have the pass/switch button the same. Maybe even have the ability to map the control to your liking. Not sure if this is easily be done with a patch
