Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

Patrick Mills NBA career over...I blame it on Kobe for brainwashing Mills to come out this year.

He'll struggle to get a contract with the Blaxers but to say that his NBA career is over is an overstatement to say the least.

Mills will play NBA at some stage.

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

I am now downgrading Romel Beck II's chance to make the league from 5% to 1%, if he is to do so it will have to be on hype generated from strong showings in the upcoming World's & Olympics. IMO his chances fall to 0% if he is not picked up after 2012 olympics

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

Mills undergoes successful surgery: Rookie point guard Patrick Mills, who fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the Blazers' second summer league practice, underwent successful surgery Monday.
Pritchard said doctors inserted a screw to repair the foot and Mills is expected to miss four to six months. That eliminates any chance at a training camp invitation for Mills, but Pritchard refused to address his future with the team. The Blazers selected Mills with their last pick of last month's draft, No.55 overall.
"Feel really bad for the kid," Pritchard said. "He's a great kid and a high-energy guy who came in looking to really make an impression on us. It was just an unfortunate accident."

Now that the blazers have Andre Miller, do you see Patty Mills making the roster?

Jason Fleming:
Not initially, no. His injury won't be healed by training camp the last I heard, plus I don't think there is any reason for the Blazers to carry four point guards. Now, if they decided to trade Blake or Bayless at some point then maybe, but I don't see it happening. And that's a shame really, because I have high hopes for Mills - I hope he lands in a good situation.

If Mills doesnt make the roster, where to from there? Is he still contracted? Or can another team pick him up?

Will be tough to make a team from here you would think. Real shame, he has a lot of potential.

The Blazers continue to hold his rights unless Mills sits out 12 months uncontracted and unpaid, which he could well do if this ankle takes a while to heal. He could then enter the 2010 NBA draft. But he needs to get paid.

He can play in Europe if he can get fit enough and score a contract or he could come back to the NBL.

Portland was the worst possible destination for him even if he had stayed fit.
Miller, Blake, Bayless and Roy (who has the ball an awful lot) means Mills was never going to get a deal.

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

i recon he will end up in the NBA development league for the remaining part of that season before going to the Portland veterans camp for the 2010/11 season.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him traded next off season of his draft rights waved.

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

Hoopsworld; A Note on Patrick Mills: The other day when I wrote about the Portland Trail Blazers signing Jeff Pendergraph knowing full well he was going under the knife, someone commented about maybe they should have done the same for second-round pick point guard Patrick (Patty, preferably) Mills, who broke a bone in his right foot in practice leading up to Vegas Summer League, forcing him to miss the entire league.
Well, for those curious people, the Blazers might just do that.
According to former HOOPSWORLD writer Wendell Maxey Mills will be in Portland within the next 10 days finishing working on his rehab and will be evaluated as to his future by the Blazers.
"He's meeting with a specialist for the last time Monday [in Australia], and then he's supposed to get back on the court and do a little bit of running," Coach David Patrick told Maxey by phone while in Las Vegas on a recruiting trip for the Gaels.
"He's on track but with a foot you never want to push it. He's back home training at the Australian Olympic Institute where he lifts about four hours a day as part of his rehab, doing conditioning in the pool and riding a bike. They are training to keep his weight and everything in tact before he gets back on the court."
If Mills wanted to simply get paid, he'd have a contract by now said his coach.
"Patty has had a lot of opportunities to go to Europe and people want to sign him regardless of the injury for big money, but that's not what he wants to do. He's always wanted to make the NBA. He wants to play for the Blazers or play in the NBA this year. That's what he wants to do. But at this point, he's just going to come back to Portland and see what happens – see if they place him overseas, keep him or let him go. You never know how it's going to go – it's tricky."
There were a lot of fans who really want to see what Mills could do in the NBA, and many Blazers fans were excited when he ended up drafted by the red and black. Here's hoping Mills shows the team he'll be able to contribute this season.

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

Thats great news. Hopefully the Blazers will give him a contract and he can come back form this injury. Long road ahead of him, but there are finally some positives to talk about. :thumbsu:

Re: Patrick Mills to Portland

Can I be cynical and say that giving him a 1st year min contract gives him a salary value for trade purposes?

i reckon he'll be traded a few times without playing much....

That’s not necessary a bad thing. If he gets traded from a team with lots of guards to a good situation and plays lots of minutes, this will give him the best opportunity to stay in the league.

I believe he is good enough, he just need to show the decision makers his weakness (Height and jump shot) are not as bad as they perceive them to be.

i agree there. portland got too many guards to compete with.

im not getting too excited on mills. each time an aussie gets drafted theres mass hysteria here (in oz). ive ridden those waves before only to experience the lows of when said players dont make it over there
