Finals matchups are set. Also i wasn't clear on this at the start because i completely forgot UF does consolation finals but they mean nothing. The draft order is set for the bottom 6, but as in real life the top 8s final finishing position after the finals will set the draft order for the top 8. Hope no one has a whinge at this but honestly consolation finals is just a way to pretend to keep the season going for the teams that miss finals, we all know they mean nothing and these rules are set in stone for every season. Also my being 2nd bottom has 0 bearing on this, i own the Warriors pick as well who finished 9th so i could just as easily improve my draft position if consolation finals meant anything.

I think this is just common-sense, I doubt anybody would expect anything different. Warriors not making finals means that my gamble with trading away my first round pick didn't quite work..

Yup i agree it's commonsense but just thought I'd make sure people knew the consolation finals didn't mean anything because then tanking accusations get thrown around etc etc. Yes, thanks for pick 6, i still think Wright will be fine. Troopers in a strong draft position to get 3 top 10 picks depending om how TBR do. I need it to inject some young talent that isn't injured. Fingers crossed KK, Hoges & Taranto can all rehab well. I wonder what this draft is going to be like i hope it's a good one,

Wright for Pick 6 is great! Pity that wasn't the trade though :p

deeman87 all good! Common Sense... As for new coach, should let them get on board now so they can use their 5 FA picks if they see anyone they like.
Good point. Technically Paris put his mate forward for the spot 1st, he's overseas atm i think but ive messaged him. Gonna wait a few days a week and I'll see what happens. Will aim to appoint a new coach in the next 2 weeks which should give them ample time to pillage F.A.

Season over :(

The season was a huge success, albeit not making finals. My top 5-6 players are as strong as any other team, I just need the next 10 or so players to step up (looking at you callum mills). Happy to start talks on a few trades for the post season...surely I have atleast one or two players that interest the rest of you. Looming primarily at midfielders and a decent ruck option.

You have set yourself up very well. Overall you have an amazing list with almost limitless potential - so much x-factor on your list, well done drafting to your strategy - I choked and forgot mine pretty much after the second round!

Warriors confirmed that they are pretty shite at drafting, and dropped the ball with trading too, so it has been a disappointing start to the League from a player management perspective. I totally stuffed up with my FA selections, probably miscalculated my 'premiership window' (feels like I am in an underground bunker at the moment) trading out three of the most promising young AFL players in the land (Oliver, Hipwood and Petrevski- Seton) and my first and second round draft picks..

Good news? I have a very solid starting midfield, who all should have at least five years of their best footy ahead of them. Once NicNat is back, I should have a fair ruck division with a good spread of ages. I have a solid forward line with a bunch of exciting kids who can only improve. My backline can only get better as the youngsters play more AFL footy as they develop.

I am not sure what the Warriors are looking to do trade-wise. Probably not much really. I think my two biggest issues this year will be sorted by NicNat returning from injury and Yeo returning to the backline.

Potential 2018 line-up
B: Yeo Rich Hartlett Broadbent Cutler Byrne-Jones
C: Fyfe Sidebottom Steven Duncan M.Crouch Ziebell B.Hill... one of Sexton/Aish/Menadue... bottom of barrel..
R: Naitanui Nankervis
F: T.Lynch (Adel) Gunston Wood Fasolo P.Wright... one of Gresham/D.Rioli/Simpkin..

Can we change this league to 20-man sides.... ?

Interesting first season for the Houligans, would certainly go about it differently if I was to draft again. But it was my first ever season in a keeper league so I'll live & learn.

I really didn't have a clear plan going in to the draft and got caught somewhere in the middle. Once it was clear I was way off the pace I had to try and correct this by going hard for youth and I think I've done an okay job, with a couple of dodgy trades being the exception.

Quick recap of my trades.

Cam McCarthy, Nic Newman > Vineys Troopers
Michael Close, Shane Biggs > Bachar Houligans

Grade - D

Deeman has r*ped me here, not sure what I was thinking trading Newman before even having a look at him. At this stage I was still in win now mode and thought I'd have a crack at getting Biggs to sure up my backline, he went on to get dropped but has finished the season strongly. McCarthy hasn't set the world on fire but he's certainly been better than Close who hasn't been anywhere near it.

Bernie Vince, Luke Ryan > Bottle Rockets
Kamdyn McIntosh, Ollie Florent > Bachar Houligand

Grade - C+

I'm okay with this trade. Was happy to get Vince off the books as I think age will catch up with him quickly, pretty dissapointed I got rid of another mature age guy in Ryan without even having a look. I really like McIntosh and think he will be a good long term back for me. Florent will be a good player.

Sean Darcy > Lewis & the Traitors
Sam Weideman > Bachar Houligans

Grade - F

This one keeps me up at night. Sean Darcy is the ten year ruck I'm screaming out for. What was good ruck depth at the start of the year is now very shaky with Andrew Phillips & whoever killed 2016 Tom Hickey and continues to wear his skin around Seaford as some sort of cruel joke.

Mark Baguley, Trent Cotchin, Chris Mayne > Stoney's Superstars
Will Hoskin-Elliot, Jarrod Berry, Jacob Weitering > Bachar Houligans

Grade - B+

I hated trading Cotch but I think this is the right move for the Houligans. I love Will-Hoskin Elliot and if he can hold forward status he'll be important for a long time. Jarrod Berry & Jacob Weitering have shown they will both be important cogs for 10+ years. Baguley & Mayne were expendable given the age of my list.

Jack Steven, Tom Campbell, 4th round selection > tenderWARRIORS
Sam Petrevski-Seton, Eric Hipwood, 2nd round selection > Bachar Houligans

Grade - A+

This is the perfect trade for my list. I think Jack Steven will be less of a stats whore as the Saints midfield evens out & Tom Campbell is a sometimes role player. SPS & Hipwood both project to be elite for a long time. What was an A grade trade was probably nudged to an A+ with the addition of another top 20 draft pick.

FA Acquisitions

Jesse Joyce - Has cemented himself in the Gold Coast 22, should be handy depth.
Zaine Cordy - Been playing a key role down back for the Doggies.
Kaiden Brand - Another that's cemented a spot in the Hawks back 6. Elite for marks.
Nathan Freeman - Who knows
Ryan Garthwaite - Young Tigers key position player who's been dominating in the VFL. Picked him up when I thought he was on the cusp of selection.

Love the analysis bilc

Like the depth chart idea. Going to do mine off 2017 positions as I dont know how they will decide positions for half of my players

Since all the loser teams are doing their end of year reports i guess I'll follow suit. Think it's fair to say i made some of the more dicey trades and nothing free agent pick ups. Drafted ok, as soon as the draft started my pre draft strategy went out the window though so after that i made a numger of risky trades, some genius, some terrible. Wasted most of my F.A acquisitions although adding Pittonet was handy. Paid for using all my acquisitions early by having to trade to pick up Glass. Overall, a bit of a nothing year, lost 14 of my last 15 mostly due to my trading more than quarter of my starting squad for kids. No one was better at gutting a possible finals team.

Trade wise:

Christian Petracca for Tom Lynch

Grade: C+

All risk, Lynch plateued some, Petracca improved some but Lynch was still the far better fantasy player. Petracca has great potential but for now he's more x-factor than bulk stats so this is a lost trade at this point.

Clayton Oliver & TW's st round pick for Steele Sidebottom & Peter Wright

A+

Don't think anyone saw Clayton being top 10 in the AFL in disposals at 19. Will be an absolute fantasy beast for many years hopefully. TW gets two very good players but loses this trade because of how good Oliver is

Cam McCarthy & Nic Newman for Shane Biggs & Michael Close

A

Funnily McCarthy was my target here and Newman was just steakknives but he's turned out to be an absolute fantasy stud is his short time in the league. Hopefully continues on and is an important cog in my def going forward.

Jesse Hogan & Christian Salem for Joe Daniher & Callum Mills

D

I'd like this one back for sure. This trade may end up alright if Hogan overcomes this horror run and Salem stays on the park. Both are fantasy studs when they're fit and going but both have durability concerns. Mills and JD on the other hand appear as durable as they come. Hopefully for Melbourne's sake more than mine this trade comes good.

Kade Kolodjanshi & Griffen Logue & TBR 1st for Dan Hannebery & Tom Stewart

D-

This grade would be a lot better if KK's career wasn't currently in doubt. Could've got more for Hannebery, but i rly loved KK's potential, i think he could be a top 50 player for many years to come if his head is alright. Not sure if Logue will end up being worthless but hopefully i can at least hit with the draft pick in this trade.

Jack Viney, Nakia Cockatoo, Brennan Cox for Michael Hibberd, Brad Ebert & Mav Weller

B

Viney is a great get but gave up 2 studs to get him. Could have chosen the steakknives a lot better. Cockatoo has paper hamstring syndrome so i fear for his career and B Cox may or may not be of use though he's shown he should be a decent depth back at work. I'm ok with this one and both teams went away being ok with this.

Tim Taranto & Jack Bowes for Ben Mcevoy & Cam Guthrie

B+

Gave up 2 handy players but got back what i think will be 2 very good players. Add to what should be a really strong midfield in a few years. This trade helped Stoney make a late run to take out the minor premiership so this trade was pretty beneficial to both teams.

Conor Glass for Jack Redden

C

Big gamble, this trade would've been fine if Redden hadn't strung together his best month of footy out West since i traded him out. Well played Jack, Paris got himself an absolute steal. Having said that i think Glass will be a gem, just could've given up less probably.

This sums up my year... I have nothing to add.

Well done to The Meerkats & Reggie's Rabble for making it through to the last 4! An unfortunate end to a promising season for Lewis & the Traitors, Lolern Bulldogs also joining us plebs in holiday mode. Good luck to the last 6...

Another 2 bite the dust. Bad luck to Paris and TDD, both looked like legitimate threats for long periods of time but anything can happen in finals. TBR after a shaky end to the home and away season have beaten 2 very good teams on their way to a prelim as the sole remaining team left from the 5-8 spots. Good luck to all next week, 2 weeks and we'll be crowning out first premier!

Also, as Paris hasn't gotten back to me about the vacant position I'm going to offer the spot to Coney so he can come in and have a look at his list and make a change or two if he wants.

BTW, similar to consolation finals meaning nothing, playoffs for spots for teams already eliminated also have no impact on the draft order. The order/ladder is set as soon as teams are eliminated.

Edit. Also, just letting everyone know, that as soon as grand final lockout begins on the 26th, free agency will be closed until the draft. So if anyone wants to make any last list changes before the F.A pool is locked you have 12 days. Once the grand final is finished the trade window will reopen until July 2018.

Bit shattered to go out despite scoring 145 points (v Stoney's redic 26.7.163 - FFS is this the 1972 grand final). Still gave it a great crack and was lucky to probably get that close given my paper thin ruck division and managing to pick up Currie as a FA to pick up a valuable 30+ hitouts on debut in a final.
