News .Paul Roos says Tigers need to pull together

Simple answer is RFC ignored the importance of recruitment for too long and after KB the importance of youth in getting a core group of high end quality players as a group of genuine ability in the draft!!!

No brainer really!!! Until they fix this don't expect to many to flog a dead horse financially until its gets its ship in order makes the adjustment acknowledging they have seen the light and blows the crap out of the lungs of the mighty Tiger!!!

a very smart man, and whats more is he's right. richmond need the right people in the right places im not too sure we have them yet.

When will these captain obvious hacks write something interesting? It's not like our poor drafting history is a secret.
Agree with this post.:thumbsu:
Look at the Deledio draft and while nobody can argue it was nothing less than a complete **** up, tell me who else were draftable that year apart from Buddy? It was a horribly shallow draft.
It was a horrible year to have 5 picks in the top 20, but then again, that can also come down to management. Good management will realise it's a shallow draft.

Come and put ya bloody hand up then roosy.... an HELP us out!!!!
It pisses me off when people like him write articles which are plain obvious to richmond people. Lloyds article was more annoying though!

Jesus H Christ, I reckon I've seen this article regurgitated countless times over the past few years.

Tell us something we don't know!

Spot on! Yeah, yeah, Buddy and Bling picks were the wrong way around in retrospect, easy to say now.
Don't see how we could have done much better in that draft, a weak top 10, let alone top 25!

I like Paul Roos, but absolutely sick of "obligatory word count" filler articles by people outside the RFC filled with words such as "if", "hindsight" and other completely obvious rubbish. These articles are just pure rubbish and contain the journalistic integrity and writing skill of a 14 year old. Did he only just find Lloyds article from earlier this year and think "crap, its nearly friday and i'm 500 words down on my weekly word count, i better regurgitate this Lloydy article, it's been a few months, nobody will notice my article is almost word-for-word identical to the point of plagarism"....

Sorry Paul, i'm a fan, but this article drags you down to the level of clueless flog, it was almost Mike Sheehan like in terms of brainlessness and assumptions.

Exactly. I thought Paul Roos was smarter than to write an article that has been written 4 thousand times.

And the Garry Lyon article about 3 years ago.

The 2 page one in The Age about 2 years ago with the Punt Rd Grandstand under clouds.

The 5 Jon Ralph has written, the 10 out of MX Newspaper and the Matthew Lloyd one from above.

Agree with the repetition but in defence we are really providing nothing for writers to talk about us.

Was probably giving the assignment of covering Richmond for supporters sake and it was not an easy subject to write about.

On Monday night football shows our losses are so expected that they dont get any mention whatsoever.

We have really not been relevant to the competition this year and despite a good patch from Dustin Martin have given the writers very little to talk about.

How to write an article about Richmonds fialure to make finals:
  • they've had x coaches in y years, so its not the coaches fault (even though the turnover of coaches is now largely ancient history
  • the 2004 draft was a bust with only 1 pick out of 5 in the top 20 making it.
  • use the ultimate cop-out - I'm not an insider so I don't really know.
The point about selling games was one worth making. I'm in a two minds about this. We should have beaten those two teams anyway, but would have been a greater chance at home and confidence plays a big part in the game these days. I'm sure no coach would ever want to do it.

We all know the 2004 draft was a stuff-up for us, but its too simplistic to blame that. We got Deledio who has been a good pick up, and while no longer with us 2 of the other 4 from the top 20 are still playing AFL football 6 years on. IMO the 2005 draft was a bigger miss. We didn't go deep enough to the well and we bombed with what we did get - to give credit where its due santa has banged on about this one for years. And IMO the even bigger issue was the failure during the spudster years to build up what would now be our 25-30 year old players. The Lloyd article seemed to at least allude to this, even if he didn't really get what he was saying.

Amazing read.

Some points which really hit me by suprise and astonished me.

Cannot believe how badly we stuffed 04/05 drafts....I actually thought they were a success up until reading this.

Thanks Paul for your insight and educating me.

what is more amazing is peoples angst at those pointing out the obvious. if it doesnt change in two yrs time the exact same thing will be regurgitated.
lets face it with camerons record and jackson in charge of recruiting id say we dont have the right people in place and we are likely to get this sort of article in two yrs time.perhaps this is what roosey is saying in a nice sort of way.

we should all be demanding that kpis in such critical areas are regularly assesed the thing i ask are they.
