The most pathetic part of all this is the cynicism behind it all. PR firm is hired to get James back into the fold, their idea is "get him to hand over the Norm Smith", the logic being (they hope):

Speech guy says on the day, "And the winner of this year's norm smith medal is...[insert say, Luke Parker]"...and as the wild applause rings out, Turd jumps out from behind someone with Norm Smith in hand and drapes Parker in it. The crowd is confused, but they cheer, the media make it look like Turd has been forgiven by the faithful, etc. The afl are desperately hoping that nobody will boo during the awarding of the Norm, and that Turdy will feel good again.
