Who's ready to host a BBL Grand Final at The Bank?
Gold Coast is in line to host its first ever Big Bash final with KFC BBL|13 pace setters Brisbane Heat opting for Heritage Bank Stadium as their preferred venue should they earn finals hosting rights this season.

...

If the Heat qualify however, they will host all their finals on the Gold Coast with the Gabba out of action in the week leading up to the second Test from January 25-29.

Should the Heat – who are currently undefeated and on top of the BBL|13 standings after five matches – qualify to host, it will be the first BBL finals matches played at Heritage Bank Stadium.

Announced over a week ago. Are we expecting his Gold Coast concert to be moved from Robina to Carrara? Both stadiums should be available in October when he plans on touring and we know artists prefer to perform at Carrara. He said tickets that have already been bought will be honoured so I assume that means he has to perform on the Gold Coast, just not sure if he's locked to the Robina venue or if he can move it to Carrara.

Did anybody find out if the suns get money from concerts and events at the stadium or if it goes to stadiums QLD instead?

The original terms of our stadium situation:
The Gold Coast team will have a clean stadium. That means naming rights and all the other commercial streams of income. Just what tenant clubs at Etihad and the MCG struggle to get their hands on.

The club will control all revenues at its stadium. The lot. The seats, drinks, food, ticketing, signage, corporate hospitality and whatever else you can think of. It will also be able to make use of the stadium through summer for concerts and any other entertainment or sports it might stage.

That's pretty cool. I heard Cochrane say the stadium loses about 2.5 mill per year though, which is interesting considering the amount of money a concert would bring in (stadium hire is roughly 30 percent from what I've heard). Concerts usually make millions if the artist is decent, so yeah overall I'm surprised it runs at a loss if the club has income from everything that happens there.

We saw an increase in revenue last financial year as the stadium started getting used more for non-footy related events i.e Harry Styles concert in February, Guns n Roses in November 2022, Spilt Milk festival in December 2022 etc. Suspect we'll see an even better result this year with Dimma leading the team and other big events such as the upcoming Pink concert in February. The Paul McCartney and Post Malone (Spilt Milk) events in November would have already netted us a fair bit of money for this financial year.
Significant growth (+22%) in club generated revenues comes off the back of both strong results in match day revenues as well as increased utilisation of Heritage Bank Stadium for non-traditional revenue opportunities.

Yeah that's good, it does say this though 'Although, an overall statutory loss of $1.7million has been lodged with ASIC, due to the impacts from accounting for the lease of Heritage Bank Stadium.' Really those concerts you mentioned should be making a few million each on their own for the club, so the lease agreement must be an absolute joke.

Probably something the club/AFL needs to re-negotiate in the future. Recently the GC Mayor has been trumpeting the idea of upgrading the stadium by filling in the open section which would increase capacity to around 32-35k. Obviously that would increase our stadium maintenance costs but if we start pulling bigger crowds under Dimma then perhaps it'll make up for the lease expenses that appear to be weighing us down. If the Brisbane Lions & Heat end up playing games here during the Olympic Gabba rebuild then that would also help our bottom line going forward. In fact, it was announced just the other day that the stadium may end up hosting a BBL final as well as the Grand Final this year and those games should pull a big crowds which will help too.

A Heat win here and we'll be hosting the Big Bash League Grand Final this year (assuming the Heat win the qualifier final which will also be held at The Bank). Let's do this thing!

The Heat still have one match to go in the regular season but are locked into the top spot

It is possible for there to be 3 games at The Bank, with the Heat losing the Qualifier but winning the Challenger.
No will only be max two. If they lose the qualifier, they lose the right to host the Final even if they make it

Looks like the Heat v Sixers on Friday will sell out, not many tickets left now and the opponent was only confirmed last night so their should be another rush on tickets today

Will be great so show cricket Aust we can host big matches and hopefully get the cricket when the Gabba is unavailable

Love to see it

Go Sixers ;)
I assume this meaning we're going to see a new stadium attendance record tonight...

This also gives us a genuine opportunity to re-open talks about starting an expansion BBL side on the Gold Coast. Assuming the Heat win, you would think the stadium will sell out again for the Grand Final and that would be hard for Cricket Australia to ignore. I'm of the opinion that their 'soft expansion' of just adding more games and forcing interstate team to play at regional venues was the wrong way to go about it and they would have been better off just leaving it as a two-month season but added more teams around the country to increase engagement.

Gold Coasters have no reason to be interested in a Scorchers v Thunder game at Carrara but they would have a reason to get behind a Gold Coast team that's made up of local stars. A lot of the Heat's best players are Gold Coasters (Bartlett, Kuhnemann, Neser, Bryant) so it's not like we would struggle to field a competitive team made up mostly of locals that's topped up with a few interstate/international players. Plus, Tom Tate is currently on a mission to upgrade the stadium and it looks very likely that it will host the cricket during the 2032 Olympics so why can't we have a BBL team here? The Brisbane Heat made the GF last year and are currently on top of the BBL ladder - they can afford to spread the Queensland talent and still remain competitive while also growing the game into a fast growing city like the GC.

Would the record still be held by the Commonwealth Games, when capacity was temporarily expanded?
On 10 December 2011 the Foo Fighters performed at Carrara and set the all-time attendance record for any event ever held at Carrara Stadium, 37,000 people attended the concert.

Commonwealth Games[edit]

Carrara Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as hosting the athletics events. The athlete's village was originally going to be located next to Carrara Stadium but instead was constructed in Southport. The stadium was temporarily upgraded to hold 35,000 people prior to the start of the opening ceremony.[2

I meant a sports attendance record that wasn't the Commonwealth Games. Harry Styles set the all-time record last year when he pulled 48,177 people to his concert if you're looking for the absolute number 1.
