Lalla Rookh, Varnish on King, Long Chim, The Trustee, Wildflower, Greenhouse (unfortunately just closed) are all good Perth CBD restaurants. Not to mention all the ones in Northbridge across the now sunken railway line. So, not hard at all to name good ones.

I'll give you Lalla

Looks similiar to the MCG in terms of width but is 11m narrower then the G.

Question - was Perth Stadium designed in this way so that the WA teams could get used to playing on a wider ground so when they do play at the MCG....they wouldnt struggle as much?

Going off what more informed posters have said in this thread, basically it's shorter and wider than Subiaco in order to accommodate cricket.

The square boundaries are rediculously long... and the straight boundaries look quite inticing. Quirk of the layout. Expect plenty of lofted straight drives and virtually no wild cuts unless they are looking for easy singles. Unless they rope it in quite a bit there will be giant gaps out square.

Ye, they layout is a bit of a compromise for cricket. At the time cricket didn't want the stadium but for so large an investment in a public stadium it would have been criminally stupid not to design it within the minimum ICC specifications. So keeping the east-west alignment that footy preferred it means running the pitch from wing to wing and making the straight boundaries just long enough to meet the ICC minimum size. The square boundaries will be the long axis of the ground, goal to goal. So yeah, it will look a bit odd with the pitch essentially going the "wrong" way for cricket.

This "just in case cricket change their mind" approach has been validated since the WACA's own private redevelopment plans fell through.

Looks like they would prefer a WA based company to name it and one with the funds to pay the heavy sponsorship. Here are some options- Multiplex, CBH, FMG, Wesfarmers, Westnet, Woodside, Pattersons Securities, Rio Tinto, Hamersley Iron, BGC, Cash Converters, Hancock Prospecting, SGIO, Timezone, Argyle Diamonds, Pilbara Iron, Firepower, Clough, Dampier Salt, Iluka Resources, South 32, HBF, HIF, Westrac, Burley-Sekem?

For starters, Rio Tinto is not an Australian company, let alone Western Australian. And given that BHP are a partner of the stadium already I can’t see that ever happening.

Pilbara and Hamersley Iron no longer exist, they both were rebranded as Rio Tinto Iron Ore a while back.

SGIO, Woodside are major partners of West Coast and Fremantle respectively - can’t see that happening either.

Bring on Cash Converters Stadium.

Bit of quick web searching:

Adelaide Oval:
Fence to fence = 183 x 134

Gabba:
Fence to fence = 171 x 150

SCG:
Fence to fence = 167 x 146

MCG:
Fence to fence = 172 x 147

Anyone have a nearmaps account and want to measure Burswood?

I reckon we are firmly in Adelaide Oval territory... but their pitch runs the opposite axis.

I’ve always thought bankwest Perth Stadium would be a good name, but since bankwest are onboard with West Coast that’s unlikely.

FMG Perth Stadium, Westpac Perth Stadium, Wesfarmers Perth Stadium, or Crown Perth Stadium could all work imo.

Fence to fence = 177 x 141 m
Playing surface for AFL = 165 x 130 m

For cricket the minimum size for the straight boundaries is 70 yards from centre of the wicket to the rope, plus 3 yards from rope to fence. So 70 + 70 +3 + 3 = 146 yards = 133.5 m.

The number if pitches in the square governs the field width as you need the min distance from the outer pitches in the square. Because Burswood is drop in it limits the number of pitches needed (5 I think). Thus reducing the width required. Some non drop in squares have something like 10 pitches.

If the pitch being used is on the outer one of the square expect the opposite side to be roped in somewhat.
