Article from Perthnow: John Worsfold told his job at West Coast is on the line

Cransberg guaranteed Worsfold would see out the entire 2011 season regardless of results but said the board wanted to see evidence the club was on track towards its fourth flag before re-signing the dual premiership skipper as coach.

Cransberg said a surprise finals appearance was not a prerequisite for Worsfold to receive a contract extension.

"... the ideal situation is we show significant improvement this year and life goes on with Woosha at the helm.

"It will be based on some objective measures and some subjective things about how well we think we're tracking towards getting back into finals contention," Cransberg said.

find myself faced with somewhat of a dilemma - want to see the eagles do well, but don't believe woosha can lead us to another flag.

inevitable really...at least its finally and officially out in the open..
big question (if it happens)..who will take over, improve us and take us to a GF?..we dont want to go from woosha to something worse.

Woosh has got the team firing.

Their tackling for a pre-season game matched Collingwoods' easily if not surpassed them.

If Natanui had not gone down, we would have won.
They could not handle him.
He himself was savage early on.

Our amazing turnovers lost us the game.
Collingwood's class and calmness in tight won them the game.

Our best team with Darling Hams Kerr and Natanui (full game) in,

can beat Collingwood.

You see, everyone is putting in, but class and know-how is not totally up to scratch on yesterday's showing.

With Hams and Darling we have 2 forwards who are creative and do classy, genius things which result in cohesive movements up forwrd and efforts by midfielders nad backs do not go to waste.

Also alot of turnovers are caused by Collingwood's pressure.

They also in passages looked like they could not do a thing right.

The Eagles are back.
Need more classy things happening and they will be very good.

Let me guess...you also think Ebert is a gun and Masten is elite ?

Would the classy things be something like play as a team and not just kick it forward 70s style.

After watching him very carefully last night I believe that whoever among you still considers Masten as "elite", or even will be so, must have blinkers and rose coloured glasses on.

He is, without doubt, the greatest waste of a pick 3 in the history of the draft.

Swift is another, although he still has a little more time to change my opinion.

That's the big question.

If I were running a football club and there were doubts about the tenure of the senior coach, I'd bring in a potential replacement as an assistant.

David Teague is currently the youngest line coach in the comp (according to the article below), so perhaps he might need a bit more time, but he'd have to be a contender.

Actually, as with any business where an employer and a staffer have a contract,he was told that at the end of his current contract, the club will decide whether to offer him another. How is that being told his job is on the line??

OMG!! Please NO NO NO

Why not? His record speaks for itself. He has been coaching for 4 years. All 4 of those years the team he was involved with made the grand final. Would bring a lot of knowledge from Collingwood with him as well.

Its amazing that you dont take into account team lists.

Woosh is getting the Eagles nice and tough again, like 2002.

Our full team with Hams and Kerr in it can beat any team.

Collingwood made lots of teams look like they had no skill last year.

Stop being another puppet of the media.

Wooshas run his race here, time to move on, new gameplan, ship some of the young spuds out

Sadly I think you are right. I rate Woosh and think he is good coach although somewhat conservative. I think he would do well if he started coaching another team. But after 10 years I think his message is no longer getting through. Look at James Hird and Essendon to see that a new coach can bring fresh energy and new ideas.

Tactically it would've been nice to see Worsfold counter. I don't think it happened. In the last 2 seasons there has been a tremendous wall across our Half forward line. With no one at full forward alone in the goal square  We just don't seem able to be able to get the ball past that point and are forced to kick over it and hope someone runs on to it to mark. That happened a couple of times last night at crucial times.

Aren't we all getting a bit carried away?

Remember guys it is still NAB cup.

dont get me wrong..i'm not judging woosha..i remain openminded, realising that he appears conservative and slow to change..and also in fairness he was handed a huge disability card, when that whole media circus/club culture thing came down - that had a huge impact and no doubt sidelined them for awhile..

anyway what i think doesnt matter, as this is the deciding year for woosha regardless..either it all comes together for him, or he falls on his own sword..

i actually hope it comes together for him,and he proves the naysayers wrong?
but if it doesnt...then bye-bye, definitely!

it looks better..theres more flow and run-on..theres more linking up.
they seem to have gelled more/bonded/connected etc..
i still think this is the turnaround year..and the handover year (coach maybe, senior players(embley/lynch) definitely...with this seasons gametime into the younger players, with some seniors gone and replacements in,and another preseason..then 2012 we could be around the 8?? meanwhile its only NAB..bring on Rnd.1.
