Back in the day they infiltrated places that were breaking animal cruelty regs and as a result, made positive change.

They also campaign against inhumane animal traps, animals in circuses, declawing, factory farming, etc. Standard stuff that any animal rights org would chase anyway, but somewhere between their beginnings and the silly things we see now, they had a policy change. Probably too many extremists, not enough moderates.

A lot of people who care about animal welfare find PETA a bit of an embarrassment, myself included.
I think some of their campaigns are alright, this one is a bit of a wank.

I don't know how the last part works, but it must be somewhat successful as they keep trying to be in the news.

I saw something the other day about the council that controls East Fremantle's home ground - and in particular the ongoing redevelopment of same - demanding the club change its nickname from the Sharks, because it can be triggering for people who've been affected by shark attacks. I don't know if that proposal got up, or was just mooted by some radical weirdo councilor/ratepayer - there's some strange people down that way.

Peta is all about headlines and nothing more. Also as they see pet ownership as slavery it's no wonder they euthanasia most of the animals in their shelter. Unlike other shelters that focus on rehoming animals and use euthanasia as a last resort.

It is true that the various people responsible for bulldog breeding standards over the last 100 or so years have totally changed what was once a very athletic animal into somewhat of a disaster. When a large proportion of births require Caesarian, wrong reins have been pulled along the journey.
