As for why Hayes isn't playing - take a look at the efforts that Gawn puts in in terms of his running. That's the level of fitness required in the modern era if you want to play ruck. Hayes doesn't have it.
completely ignoring that for the first half of his career Gawn wasn’t fit enough either, and that he built his fitness and running while playing in the afl side.

"We make these decisions for the long-term future of the playing list and the club."

As we’ve seen ruckman in the past slip down the order, there is no doubt Hayes will come into clubs minds with a late first round or second round selection. If he can improve his running, he has the traits to make it as the best ruckman in the 2017 draft pool and like Brodie Grundy did in 2012 – in five years time people could be questioning just why did he slip down so far on draft night. Up forward, he can take marks and kick the goals and it is another set of skills that separate him from other ruckman this season."

Unless he has regressed after 5 years of being in an AFL system, it seems that he does have the ability to take marks and kick goals up forward. His running ability shouldn't be too much of an issue either as he'd be sharing the ruck duties with Lycett so we could stick him up forward to give him a rest when he needs it. I just can't understand the decision not to play Hayes!

Hinkley for whatever reason will never play 2 rucks, he has consistently demonstrated this fact. On rare occasions he has experimented with it , but they have been short lived. Always opts for extra runner or small.

Let's see how Sydney develop him. This trade for peanuts may come back and bite us hard. Our player management team will look like idiots, if they aren't already
This trade has 2 parts. We fell in love with Sinn.

We trade Ladhams and F3rd pick to swap 16 for 12 (which became 14 after 2 players were bid on) and then on live trading we swapped 14 with 12 (originally 10) with WCE for F2nd pick.

So the Ladhams trade (a first XXIII player) was actually a player + F2 + F3 to draft a player who can't even get selected ahead of Jed McEntee.

You just know that outside of significant injuries that Ladhams is going to have a very good AFL career, he has all the attributes to be a 150-200 game player.
To develop under Dean Cox is as ideal of a scenario that your going to get for a developing Ruckman.

I promise everyone here that trading Ladhams was absolutely the right thing to do. Yep on the surface the trade seemed poor but both clubs knew the score with Pete and that's why his currency wasn't as good as it should have been.

He never had currency

I'm happy to slate Ken as much as the next bloke but last year when both Scooter and Pistol were fit they played a lot of footy together at AFL level.

I liked Ladhams a lot it was a BIG mistake turfing him. IMO hinkleys judgement could not be worse!
It's a similar logic as to why clubs don't recruit players with off field issues. Doesn't mean they get it right 100% but on the whole it's the right call.

Taking away the off field issues you'd be 100% right.

My only argument with this is, if Sydney knew about his off field stuff, why did they take him? Longmire doesn't remind me of a coach that will take any crap. If Sydney turn him around why couldn't we?

A lot of sentences could have the format "If Sydney (fill in the blank) why couldn't we?"
