Yeah i heard that as well.

Over the years i have really enjoyed Coward's publications and documentaries and i don't mind him to be honest.

But those type of comments really dumbfound me.

I mean these guys are professional cricketers, in that situation you can do 2 things.

1) Try and defend for as long as possible and play for a draw.

2) Play normally, play natural game.

Austrlaia obviously tried the second option, their reasoning was probably that defending isnt going to do much and sooner or later you will get out. By attacking India they probably thought that history has shown when the Indian bowlers get attacked then they can lose their line (WC 2003).

At least the aussies tried something, it didnt come off but Coward's comment really made no sense and it seems to be a type of comment people use to make it sound like they know what they are talking about.

err not sure what planet you're living on LtD but katich was doing anything BUT playing his normal game. and i wouldn't say hayden was playing his natural game either, he was just trying to smash his way into form. far more riskier approach compared to what he normally does.
that start by those two showed how their side had absolutely no idea what to do when faced with the situation they were.

Well its not rocket science is it, there are 2 or 3 options.

1) Defend and shut up shop -

2) Play normal game

3) Attack

Australia probably thought that history had shown that if the Indian bowlers were attacked then they could lose their length and line. As shown in the 2003 WC.

Obviously it didnt come off but at least we tried something different. Sure as hell, if we came out and played a dead bat to everything, then the batsmen would be crowded and its just a matter of time.

Dhoni backed off at 0/40 with 1 slip and boundary riders. THe theory was correct, it doesnt take much for India to lose their nerve.

Unfortunately, he lost but hey coming out and saying the players didnt know what to do is crap. Its not an algebra exam its cricket. These guys would have been in positions like this in club and state cricket. Saying they dont know what to do is crap.

oh ok, so now it's three options ;)

we had your side at 58/5 or whatever, so im not sure what you're getting at when you say we lost our line and length.

they didn't have to dead-bat their way through the innings. you didn't see clarke doing that, and neither did he go about his innings in T20 mode, the top order could learn a lesson or two from the way he played. cleary he knew what was required, hayden and co. (with the exception of ponting) didn't.
and please don't liken an ODI situation to a test match one.

FFS.

The Aussies tried something, thats all i want them to do.

They tried to take the attack to the Indian bowlers. It didnt work out, but hey. We have been in the position before , In England in 2005 we saved a test match batting last.

Personally, i think it interesting to consider Dhoni's captainicy, at 0/45 off 7 or so overs Dhoni had one slip and boundary riders when he had a score of over 500.

Seemed to lose his nerve pretty quickly if you ask me.

LtD - I love your work and get a laugh from your posts but you are just showing your n00b status when you keep harping about Dhoni 'losing his nerve'. The fact is Australia got off to a flyer, Dhoni rang the changes and then India picked up 5/9. Not a bad outcome from supposedly 'losing his nerve'

What bit of my work do you love?

My knowledge of the game or my humour?

Mainly your humour mate (But that's not to say your knowledge of the game is lacking). Just love the outrageous analogies, comparisons, predictions and exasperated statements that you come up with. Always look forward to seeing a post from you on this board to see what you come up with next.

I know some around here aren't your biggest fans, but I'm a big fan of posters like you, who are passionate supporters and wear your heart on your sleeve.

Harsha? **** off, he was pathetic after the Sydney Test...he's just another Indian apologist.
i am an indian and i know bhogle, he is a hypocrite of the first class like sunil gavaskar, depending on whom he is commentating for, indian audience or aussie audience...........so on so forth but that does not take away the fact that like gavaskar, bhogle is oneeyed and has a racial undertone, these will always put down a western team and never an asian or a west indian team, they wud always find a way to ridicule oz

He does seem like a slightly eccentric character.

The bit about inviting young males to live at his house is IMO not appropiate.

Didn't he cane the kids after they failed to complete a 3km run to Roebuck's predetermined time standards.

This is one of the gayer posts I've read for some time.

"I love your hair as well - and the way you walk. I love your hot breath on the back of my neck when we spoon."

I thought the kids were 20 or something like that? Still wrong either way and he was rightfully prosecuted.

He was probably beaten as a boy and thus etc. doesn't excuse anything however (Especially the poor attempt at Journalism)

roebuck has only one agenda, put down the aussie team and australia as a country and glorify all other countries and all other teams

oz puts food on his table and look what he does

see his article in smh today, he is only writing +vely about kumble talking to the pitch curator to have a helpful pitch, s.waugh has said that pitch fixing is not too different from match-fixing and ian chappell has said that pitch-fixing is cheating

but pitch-fixing always openly happens in asia and westindies, the reason why india competed in oz on the last two tours is coz the pitches were flat

look at oz v ind head to head

in ind - 12 -12

in oz - oz leads ind 22-5

oz wud have beaten india black and blue on india's last two aus tours had the pitches been green

roebuck has said on cnn-ibn news channel in india that it was a lot of rubbish of aussies to talk of new age cricket(remember only punter talked about it in reply after the whole indian team and many other indians, had ridiculed australian team esp its spinners and punter was right as oz plays new age cricket unlike ind)

roebuck always takes delight in oz loosing and always predicts that aus is finished after they loose 1 match, he is doing it now as well

he said that eng and ind will battle for the top spot and eng will beat aussies easliy in the ashes, he says that ponting is the worst captain he has ever seen(which is a joke as punter has all the captaincy records)

Are you serious Cozmoz about that last bit about Eng and the Ashes and Ponting. Did he really say that?
i watch a programme called loc on cnnibn which has sunil gavaskar and peter roebuck as its so called experts

loc is line of control between ind and pak but cnn-ibn calls it love of cricket

this roebuck just keeps on saying all rubbish on cnn-ibn, he is a first rated idiot, why is he employed in oz?he has no integrity towards oz, i follow a lot of sport esp cricket and tennis and i know, roebuck is a disgrace, he keeps on putting ozzies down

+

just read this foll article by rohit brijnath, an indian who lived in oz to understand some of the difference between ind and oz cricket

Roebucks thoughts on moving to Australia

"Australia seemed bright and young and raw and challenging whereas the country of my birth appeared grey, tired and cynical."

Some negatives on Australia according to Roebuck

"Australia does have its weak points, including self-obsession; the need to feel that it matters. Accordingly, minor sporting triumphs receive rapturous acclaim and sporting stars are glorified above all others"

"Australia does not, as it turns out, cut down its tall poppies but waters them, protects them and admires them uncritically. In 2003 I was dismayed by the attention paid to Steve Waugh, Shane Warne and Brett Lee, and saddened by the glorification of the individual"

Wonder what Ponting thinks of that.

Isn't that a bit rich coming from someone who earns a living doing precisely that?
