I thought the same thing about 5 games ago Considering they were more competitive last season, it's hard to see how they went wrong.. Anyway, our Eagles are the champs of NFC East

The entire NFC sucks this year. The Eagles are the only team that look remotely like a genuine chance. But it is the Eagles we are talking about.

The AFC has at least two class team in each division (don't mention the AFC East), and even the crappy teams have resonable defence. The NFC is just crap this year.

The Eagles have been touted all year long...so it's no surprise they have won the East. The Falcons and Pack I feel are the only hurdle to the Eagles taking the next step. Question begs whether the Philly D is ready as both Favre and Vick can do enough damage in a game to force a win.

I'm not concerned with the Vikings...they are like cheap street workers who pass on by and tease a little...nothing too fancy. A dime a dozen team.

In HUGE breaking news, it appears as though TO will be out for the rest of the season including the Playoffs!! That is obviously a massive blow to Philly in their chase for SuperBowl glory....is the NFC now wide open??

Owens may miss playoffs with ankle sprain

PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 20, 2004) -- Eagles star receiver Terrell Owens will miss the rest of the regular season and possibly the playoffs and Super Bowl with torn ligaments in his right ankle.

Owens will have surgery Dec. 22 and stands only an outside shot at being able to play in the NFL's championship game on Feb. 6 -- if Philadelphia makes it that far -- head trainer Rick Burkholder said.

Owens, who has 77 catches for 1,120 yards and a team-record 14 touchdowns, also has a fracture a few inches below his knee. But Burkholder still didn't rule out the chance that Owens would be able to run in five weeks -- the weekend of the NFC title game.

"There's a lot of hurdles that have to be taken on before he can ever get to that point," Burkholder said.

"The scenario I painted is the best-case scenario, but it is realistic," he said.

Owens was hurt on the second play of the third quarter of Philadelphia's win over Dallas on Dec. 19 when he was dragged down from behind by Roy Williams on a 20-yard reception. Owens immediately grabbed the back of his leg, which was bent backward, but left the field on his own power.

The Eagles went on to win 12-7 and clinched home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs.

Tests revealed a high ankle sprain. A screw will be implanted to stabilize and strengthen the ankle joint.

Burkholder said the fracture is not as serious, and will be allowed to heal on its own.

"He's a great player, but can the offense go on? Absolutely," coach Andy Reid said. "We have some pretty good players on this offensive unit, so it'll still function and do very well this week."

Owens has missed just seven games in his nine-year career. Acquired in an offseason trade, he has provided a spark to an offense that often stagnated late in the season -- even though Philadelphia made the NFC championship game the last three years without him.

Philadelphia plays next Dec. 27 at St. Louis and finishes the season on Jan. 2 at home against Cincinnati. Philadelphia will open the playoffs Jan. 15 or 16.

The Eagles' other starting wide receiver, Todd Pinkston, hurt his knee against the Cowboys and Reid said he was walking with a limp.

Without Owens, the Eagles will be left with basically the same lackluster receiving corps that has disappeared when needed in the title games. Freddie Mitchell or Greg Lewis could join Pinkston as the other starting wideout. Those three have a combined 60 catches for 1,073 yards.

Reid said the Eagles will activate wide receiver Billy McMullen.

"It will be an opportunity for some young guys to play," Reid said.

In two playoff games last year, the Eagles had one touchdown catch from a wide receiver.

None of the wide receivers caught a pass in the second half of the Eagles' 12-7 win over the Cowboys.

The Eagles have already set a franchise record for regular-season victories. They've finished first in the conference three straight years, but couldn't take advantage of playing at home in the last two NFC championship games, losing to Tampa Bay and Carolina. The Eagles also lost in the NFC title game in 2002, in St. Louis.


No doubt he will miss the last 2 games, but Philly will be trying everything they possibly can to get him back for the Playoffs!!

I wouldn't be so sure of that! I am not saying that Philly wont make it, but this certainly evens up the pack. Look how much Philly's passing game has struggled in the Playoffs recently! Without their main receiver it will make it a lot harder. IIRC Philly one threw on TD pass to a receiver in the NFC Championship game last year...this year TO has dominated that role...he gets taken out and they dont throw a TD pass to a receiver (after TO went down) in their win on the weekend!

There is no doubt about it....Philly will be worried!

There's no way TO wouldn't play in a Superbowl if the Eagles get there.

This definitely puts pressure on the Eagles D though.

No doubt! Even if he isnt 100% fit TO would still play, a 75-85% fit TO is better than no TO at all.

Would you risk him for the NFC Championship Game (assuming they make it), you then run the risk of re-injuring him and if you make the SuperBowl TO definitely being out, or do you give him that extra week's rest and put confidence in your back ups!!

I would at least have him suited up. Even if he only played a couple of downs, or acted as a decoy, they could still be matchwinning roles at a stage in the playoffs where the Eagles have had so much trouble. Even making the Superbowl would be improvement.

That said, being set up for a mauling by the Pats could be very damaging.

Wow, that is terrible news for the Eagles. The fans in Philly are probably destroyed right now, they're back to being the little engine without TO, no receivers, a crappy running back, no points, no superbowl.....again.

Would you risk him for the NFC Championship Game (assuming they make it), you then run the risk of re-injuring him and if you make the SuperBowl TO definitely being out, or do you give him that extra week's rest and put confidence in your back ups!!

He's having surgery and the Superbowl is in 7 weeks. He'd be lucky to be ready in 7 weeks. No way he plays in an NFC championship game in 5 weeks (two weeks between NFC championship game and SuperBowl) unless he has an S on the front of his underwear!

Just made the point that he seems to injure blokes on a consistant basis whether intentional or not.

Considering our pass defense is pretty much rubbish we have to play him deep which isnt his game. RW prefers to line up near the line of scrimmage and play the run. When newman and frazier/Hunter etc learn to cover their opponent then we'll see the best of RW.

Jody Foldesy of The Washington Times reports that Florida police do not contend that Redskins safety Sean Taylor fired his gun during an incident that resulted in a charge of aggravated assault, and that shots apparently were fired at Taylor during the second phase of the altercation, when Taylor alleged threw punches.



This development is significant for Taylor, since under Florida's "10-20-Life" gun law the mandatory minimum sentence for aggravated assault with a gun shoots from three years to 20 if a shot is fired.



Redskins defensive lineman Phillip Daniels looks to have some tough love ready for Taylor, who has ignored phone calls all offseason from Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, when Taylor reports for training camp on July 31. "What better way can you embarrass the Redskins than by not returning calls from a guy who has been there and done good things for this team and this organization?" Daniels told The Washington Post. "But we've got to support [Taylor]. He needs us, and we need him on the field. We don't need him out there doing crazy stuff like this over an ATV.



"Sean's got to be smarter. Right now it's not about the fact that we need him, it's the fact of how he is as a person, and right now he's destroying his career. He's destroying it real fast. The worst thing you can do in this league is for someone to look at you and say, 'Oh, he's a knucklehead, he's always in trouble.'"

The Raiders' busy offseason may not be over yet. Philadelphia television station WPVI is reporting that there is a trade in the works that would send disgruntled wideout Terrell Owens, who had 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Eagles last season, to Oakland in exchange for Jerry Porter and possibly a draft pick. Porter caught 64 balls for 998 yards and nine touchdowns in 2004.

This is potentially massive. It is something i've joked about before but never in a million years thought would occur.... Owens and Moss on the same team. What a nightmare in so many ways (on and off the field). Like it hasnt happened yet but its already got me imagining the concequences, haha.
Im speechless... haha, need time to let this settle.

Update: Law has received a contract proposal from the Buccaneers, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

This is also quite entertaining... the bucs already solid defense will the ball-hawking cornerbacks they have... add Law, nice.

Owens in Oakland would be perfect but it won't happen.

Porter would be more than happy to be traded you would think, but why would TO want to go there? Moss and Owens in the one team wouldn't happen - nobody would be that stupid. Would they?

Law going to Tampa isn't a surprise - but it would be interesting to see the dolalrs they've offered. Law is worth a punt but not for the money he's asking.

Falcons: Vick has MRI on shoulder

Michael Vick underwent an MRI on his left shoulder on Wednesday. The Falcons' new medical staff ordered the test so that they could get an update on Vick's recovery from an injury suffered last season against the Panthers, head coach Jim Mora told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The MRI did not reveal any damage and Vick was given a clean bill of health.
