Aside from the throw leading to the turnover, damn Wentz looked good today. He was Wilson-like escaping tackles, but also looked really smart and reliable.

I've been an Eagles fan long enough to not get too excited over 1 win, but Wentz and the front 7 gave us a bit to be enthusiastic about today.

Sturgis did a hip flexor on his first kick of the game and is out for 4-6 weeks.

New kicker incoming...

Might explain the missed XP then.

Great job nailing an important 50 yarder right before the half when injured.

Yeah surprised he hit the 50 yarder with a hip flexor. I can imagine it would put off the usual rhythm.

Who do we try and get to kick in the short term?

Offensive line is an issue for me, Washington hardly have an elite pass rush but Wentz was under pressure all day and the running game was non-existent yet again. I have never really got the buzz about Seumalo, he was terrible yesterday. PFF said he missed blocks on 3 running plays in a row which resulted in them being blown up.

Caught the end of the game tonight.

Really have to thank Cousins, that interception in the red zone was horrendous haha. Switched the momentum completely.

Weird game, always get like we were in control but was closer than it should have been.

Agree with the issues on the O line. Our running plays really went nowhere all game. Need to get that going better against the Chiefs.

The Cousins throw has to be understood in the context of the pressure that he was under / how many times we'd already hit him during that game. Even the best will miss some throws if you hit them constantly.

We'll live or die with our d-line this year. Thankfully week one was a resounding success. Very good games by Cox, Jernigan and especially Graham.

To some degree I'm hoping that it's the low number of pre-season snaps that has prevented them gelling.

The good news: Big V coming in didnt lead to the pass protection completely evaporating like some games in years passed where starters have been injured (the Osi/Justice game sticks in my nightmares). Having said that, Wentz's freakish escapability does mask a lot.

Need to get a free agent in to beef up that o line. Trading Barb hurt our depth.

Also need to add a decent cb - or promote Rasul and back him in as a rook...

Good signs were Aghodropsie playing well, Ertz great and Wentz being effective if not classically beautiful.
The swing passes were stupid calls - but gee the deep bomb to Smith showed promise.

Damn the running game needs work, we were basically gifted that win by Washington, need to be a heap better next week.

I doubt we bring in a FA for interior o-line.

They're high on Isaac, but they are also high on Warmack subject to coaching up and think Wiz could start in a pinch.

likely to be Warmack at LG next year with Isaac at C I think.
Yeah I get that longer term plan, but there are a bunch of decent backups out there now for cheap. Why not get one in??

Why wouldnt they go to Wiz as the first port of call if they wanted to make a change on the o-line?

Who do you want to cut from the 53 to acquire a FA?

Not culling, but Darby and Sturgis both going to IR opens spots. Plus I don't agree with keeping both Clement and Phumphrey...

For all the decent backups available in FA, there are a lot of teams with terrible OL missing these 'decent backups'.

Quality OL is hard to come by.

Why we got a pick for Matt Tobin of all people.

^^ This, they are free agents for a reason.

It was very concerning that we could not protect vs washington's typically ordinary front 7 but:

Peters went out
They maybe improved with Gallette.
Its only the first game.

Peters inability to stay on the field really hurts us in the short term, having him in and out of the rotation makes it hard to build any sort of continuity.

Not sure how i feel about Wentz, he makes some truly spectacular plays like the TD to agahalor and the romo spin to evade, and hit ertz on 3rd and long. Nelson may have had a huge day if he could accurately throw the pass on the drag route, not throw it behind him on the orbit route that was ruled a fumble, and the fake end around that he lofted super high may have been a td if he does not have to juggle it. His ability to make the simplest of plays look difficult yet turn a play that looks doomed into a positive play is very perplexing.

Exactly my point about why we need to invest in an Oline addition instead of retaining two RBs that will both barely play all year unless injuries hit.
It might take rotating two or three (or seven) different FAs/practice squad OLs through the one spot on the 53 man before we find one that is decent backup material - but we need one a lot more than we need other positions...

Same mistakes over and over are killing us.

Wentz needs to learn to not throw the screen if there's a defender in the traffic. These tipped interceptions are killing us. Even when he's not tipped, I'm not sure I've ever seen a quarterback as consistently bad at throwing screens. He's just nowhere near them ever.

Maybe we should just take some of these plays out of the playbook Doug?

only saw the play live, plus a few replays, but the ball hit the defenders helmet, and he was pretty low to the ground. Maybe he was trying to throw it into the ground near the receivers feet and just kill the play.

I disagree with the notion of getting rid of these quick throws close to the line, given the early results. If your quarterback can't execute these simple throws, he will never be a good qb. I put it down to small sample size, this was not a problem of his last year.
