No doubt our recruiters have done a mountain of work and have access to so much data to make decisions here. Will be great for the club whoever they decide on.

But for shits and giggles, if you were making the call on Wed night, who do you want at 1 and 6 and why?

Put em on the line….

Pick 1 - Jagga.
Not sure why he hasn’t been talked up more here. He’s not the sexy pick, but he just kept on getting it done this year. His games with Richmond were all you could ask of him. While FOS shone when he got the ball in his VFL game, it was Jagga who constantly set him up.

He will complement whoever we get at 6 nicely as the extractor and giver to the outside runners. Good for 25-30 a game, he will be our next captain in the Cotchin mould. He’s the safe pick and I think we need one of these early.

Lalor looks exciting. I worry we get caught up in the Dusty hype with him. If his endurance doesn’t progress then he has a Raynor ceiling which isn’t bad, but it’s not what we should be prioritising. Interestingly Raynor also had endurance question marks on him in his junior days. If he can build endurance and has the will, then he becomes the next DeGoey or Petracca and another club reaps the benefit.
It’s highly tempting, but I’m not sure I’d pull the trigger here over Jagga.

Pick 6 - FOS (if available), then Smillie.

It really comes down to who is left at this stage. If North take Tauru there’s a chance one of FOS or Langford are available.

Langford looks a solid contributor and also a marking threat up forward. He’s likely to be a solid contributor to whatever team picks him.

FOS shone when playing for our VFL team even while not 100%. With Jagga at 1 he would be a great foil to him and we could take a punt on him to capture that form in the AFL that he has promised previous to this year.

Smillie looks the one that is certain to drop to us. And I’d be really happy if we picked him up. A big contested beast with a good kick and endurance. He has the build to be a real beast in the Cripps mould but does he have the grit to do so? The opposite to Langford in terms of what you see with Harvey you know you will get. Pair him with a safe bet in Jagga and it’s a punt worth taking. If these two work out, there’s your centre square extractors for the next 12 years.

1)Lalor
6/7 after Ashcroft bid we dodge cursed pick 6) Smillie.

The main reasons I reckon Jagga has dropped is he's the perfect Bummers mid..... racks up a tonne of stats without influencing or tearing games a part/ looks good on Supercoach leaderboard but disappoints when you watch him. Also Jagga finished VCE last year, so had all the time in the world to dedicate to footy whilst the vast majority of the 2024 Draft cohort had to dedicate majority of their time to school and homework. He's built like a Thai Burma railway survivor. What's the odds after 5 years in the system he resembles Tiny Timmy Dow. PASS!

I'm betting he's already near his ceiling.... juxtapose this with Lalor who's never had a preseason or Smillie who deserves the same benefit given to KP that he needs time to develop due to his height.

2 gun mids.
With Hopper and Taranto on the list for a while to come, I would be looking at inside/outside mids, definitely not an inside-only slow bull like Smillie.
