Player Watch Pick #18 (2019) - Mitch Georgiades

Haven’t seen a speccy like that since Schulz. Once he and Marshall are firing at the same time we’ll be blitzing other sides.

By what possible metric can you assert that Sinn is going to be an excellent consistent player? Because he was a high draft pick? So was Chayce jones

Sometimes you've got to make a call and I've made that call based on his pre-covid U/16 highlights and his preseason highlights before he suffered the osteitis pubis injury.

It's a given that future athletic performance is never guaranteed but in my view he's got what it takes.

I don't understand how some can whack a 19 year old that's been through what he has the last 3 years.

No one's whacking him.

It's just blind faith to assume he's gonna be a star based on when he was 15 years old.

It's fair to ask the question of whether we paid too much, giving away our second round pick to move up two spots.. in looked a risky move when it happened and looks even worse now.

But hey, maybe he'll be Chris Judd mark 2.

Toby Greene's gonna deprive Mitch of the car this week.

There's a few that go too far with whacking the club's kids as if they expect peak 24 to 30 year old performance from an 18 to 23 year olds.

He's a great athlete who isn't really good at anything except marking from a football perspective at this stage. The potential is there though for a proper coach to teach him to play in a proper system and reap the rewards.

Out of all the terrible takes on bigfooty this ranks up there.

'Isn't really good at anything...'

JFC man

Ignoring your malicious attempt to remove all context and distill my entire post down to me saying MG isn't good at anything, which parts of the game is MG currently excelling at that don't involve either marking (which he is an A grader at) or things that relate to athletic ability rather than football ability (eg leap, speed, endurance)?

His set shots are poor. His field kicking is poor. His decision making is poor.

MG has huge potential. Star, A grader potential. But he's still young and raw and has a lot to learn and develop in his game. And he's unlikely to reach his full potential with Ken Hinkley and Nathan Bassett guiding the way.

Once again, he kicked 3.1 on the weekend, with the 1 behind coming from a shot that hit the post.

Very weird timing to be complaining about accuracy.

His kicking all year has been not at the required standard.

I feel like I'm having to defend myself for totally reasonable critical analysis of a player that I'm actually a big fan of and have been since day one.

He's playing the hardest position on the ground. He's young and raw. There are so many aspects of his game that need to improve for him to reach his potential and be a high quality AFL forward. There's no reason to think that won't happen in time. But he's not there yet, not even close.

At least create a counter using a data sample greater than 1 game.

15.21 is not great conversion from a key forward, no matter how you try to spin it. That's not including shots that have failed to make the distance, or been kicked out on the full.

That's his 2022 off season. Building his aerobic capacity to convert those I50 marks into scores.

Some guys have the yips for years. Mitch's problem in front of goals hasn't even lasted a whole season.

We've seen that he can do it. Saying that he just plain isn't a good goalkicker is false.

He's where he needs to be though i think thats where the resistance comes from

It was so good to see Mitch fly for his marks on the weekend. He moved much better and played with greater aggression at the contest than the previous week. If he maintains that, then the goal-kicking accuracy will improve. If he can kick another 7 goals in the remaining four games, then he finishes the year with 25 goals, which would not be a disgrace. Not great either, but leaves him with some confidence going into next year and clear things to work on over the preseason.

I haven't seen a speccy like that since the one he took against Freo a couple of weeks ago :p

Eh fair cop I guess.

Are they poor considering he's a 20 year old KPF? Will playing him in the SANFL fix it? This season he has been down, but talk about removing context - I wouldn't have said set shots, field kicking or decision making were poor from him in 2021.

Just sounds ultra critical of a guy who is already outperforming peers at his age and in his position.

It's not like we drafted Fischer McAsey

You mean the way that Todd Marshall has obviously had his potential hijacked by those two?
