4. David Zaharakis

To me, Zaharakis is a gem. I don't think we have seen what this kid is capable of yet tbh. I'm not saying this because I'm an Essendon supporter, it's echoed by many. He reminds me a lot of Chapman, it isn't funny. He actually looks a champ in his infancy. He could definitely be the grunt we need in the midfield - the guy that takes shit into his own hands when the team is down and turns it onto it's head. I picture him fending off opposition players before either piercing the ball into the hands of our KPP's up forward or splitting the sticks himself.

It's tough though, because this is the only "versus" rank where I think both players actually challange each other. Jetta is all class, but Zaharakis provides that push and shove and classy finish, which I prefer in a 200 game player. Jetta's skills by foot has improved greatly over the years, but he will be more of a link up player in my eyes (nothing bad at all!).

Just as I envisioned it. ;)

First. Credit to Call_Me_Cake for an excellent post.

Jake Melksham Vs Travis Colyer (career)

Melksham in a canter. Colyer isn't as naturally skilled with a football and he doesn't have the build to hit as high heights as Melksham. Melksham will play a lot of games for Essendon and might become a very good player. Colyer will never cement himself a spot in the team for a whole year and can probably hope for a 100 game career at best.

Scott Gumbeton Vs Jake Carlisle (career)

Everyone has explained this one so well. No comparison here at all.

Brent Prismall Vs David Myers (career)

Prismall will likely turn out to be a fine player, but I think Myers could become an AA player. His problems are to do with his body and confidence, and if his body holds up the confidence will come. He will get better and better with age and experience, while Prismall can only really hope to hit his highest standards to date and then hold them consistently.

David Zaharakis Vs Leroy Jetta (career)

This one is the hardest to do. Very very hard. Zaha will very likely play more games for Essendon than Jetta and will be a solid team member. But... Jetta at his best is a game winner. He struggles with selflessness at the moment, especially in front of goal, but that is something that will go away as he becomes a more experienced and mature player. He had a very fine year last year and I expect him to build on it.

People forget how good he was last year. Halfway through the season he was the best small forward in the game. He is pushing towards 20 possessions and a goal a game, as well as providing tackles and 'pressure' that improve the whole team. This pre-season he has shown the ability to use the ball in traffic with quick wit, not just relying on his speed, and when he brings all the elements of his game together he will be amazing.

At their respective peaks I think Jetta will be better, but Zaha is a safer bet for a long solid run for the club. As to which would make the 'better' career it is hard to say. I would probably have to pick Jetta.

Dyson Heppell Vs Michael Hibberd (2011 only)

Class.

Am I the only one seriously concerned with Colyer's kicking? To me he seems to suffer from the same curse as Wojo and Harbrow in that he runs too fast to be able to kick accurately

Define "better" and then this makes more sense. Who will play more games? Who is a match winner? Who will kick more goals? Who will take more marks? Who will be the x-factor and who will be consistent?

For example with Zaka and Jetta

I think Zaka will have better kicking, jetta will be a match winner but less consistent. Does that make one better than the other or just equal? I would prefer to have a more definite idea of what people think is better.

Would you prefer a guy who rips it up 1 out of 3 games, injured 1 out of 3 and in the 3rd game does nothing or someone who plods (Slattery Style) on every game across the 3?

So subjective like everything on here I know but better is just such a loose word...

Yeh, your point is valid.

I suppose it is the player who you would least want to lose to other clubs, who is more valuable?

1. Jake Melksham Vs Travis Colyer (career)
Hands down, Jakey will have an awesome career.
2. Scott Gumbeton Vs Jake Carlisle (career)
All depends on injury. Gumby has a hell of a lot of talent.
3. Brent Prismall Vs David Myers (career)
Coz I gotta have faith.
4. David Zaharakis Vs Leroy Jetta (career)
Zaka is one of my favs. He has amazing foot skills, clean hands, great decision making etc.

One more, a little different:
5. Dyson Heppell Vs Michael Hibberd (2011 only)
Heppell but it will be close.

1. Melksham, reads the play really well, always creates a extran number in our favour by getting himself to as many contests as possible, can put himself in very dangerous positions which results in shots at goal.

2. Draw. From what I have seen Gumbletons hands are quiet something.

3. Myers is showing really good signs so far this pre season, (Hird factor)
His 1 on 1 stuff has been very good, looks very solid. but has got a few areas of improvment left. may have a bit more X factor to.

4. Both, Jetta's best is better then Zaka, but Zaka is consitant.
Both lightning quick, both getting much harder at the ball, both are kicking goals. Both wonderful players of our future.

5. Heppell, could never not say Heppell. Looks a very likely type, maybe end up X fingers our best player since Hird.

Prismall by the length of the flemington straight. Myers has nearly 30 good or better games to catch Prismall. Prismall just plays good solid football. Myers, well he hasn't really done anything. Prismall has come off a knee reco, myers has just had his head up his arse

Would like my time again...
