We all recon the Australian selectors are hopeless and too stupid and gutless to make changes. So what players would you pick in your Australian Cricket Sides? You can't lose as many international matches and lose them so convincingly as we have without some serious changes being made. You can't just sit back and take beatings like we are with players doing well at domestic level and not getting their chances.

Pretty decent sides OP. I'd make a couple of changes though:

Test
Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Khawaja
Hughes
Paine/Haddin (I honestly can't decide between the two, one moment I'm Haddin, next moment Paine)
Hauritz (O'Keefe pushing, but hasn't done it for long enough)
Harris/Johnson
Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

ODI
Watson
Haddin (Hughes is a spud in OD games, hasn't worked out how to play them yet)
Clarke (not only is he still in our best ODI side, he's one of our best ODI batsmen)
White
Ferguson
Hussey (see Clarke)
Smith
Harris
McKay
Doherty
Bollinger

Note: I haven't included Ponting because I reckon it's time he retired from ODIs and focused on Tests. If he comes in, one of Ferguson or Smith goes out (probably dependant on conditions).

T20I
Hughes
Watson
White
Haddin
Dussey
Finch
Mussey (well and truly in our best T20 side IMO)
Smith
Harris
Nannes
Tait

The Haddin V Pain one is a tough one. The way I see it, Haddin is a poor keeper and Pain a very good one. Both can bat, Haddin maybe a fraction better but Haddin is unreliable as he's never hit runs when we really needed him to.

I think Haddin for the short forms as he's a big hitter and Pain for Tests because dropped catches and poor keeping hurts more in tests.

Hauritz has accuracy to his game and that is all. He doesn't turn it but he does get a bit of bounce and decent flight. Last time he was out his accuracy was terrible and when you lose all you've got you're nothing. I think Doherty has matured into a better bowler than Hauritz now but hasn't got the record. Then again neither has Hauritz as he wasn't getting a game for NSW when he was first selected. O'Keefe is a very good batsman and gives us an all rounder that has a good first class record at taking wickets.

Clarke is making ok runs at a really slow pace. He wasts to much time and is to slow for limited overs cricket. We also need a genuine opener in the ODI side. Hughes is a quick scorer at first class and test level and killed it in T20 Domestic cricket. He'd be worth trialing.

I agree with Michael Hussey in the ODI side, he's still a very good and importnat ODI player. I'm not sure about him as a T20 player though. I'd rather have some bigger hitters down low.

I kinda agree about Ponting retiring from limited overs cricket and focusing on Tests. I think he will retire after the world cup.

Our T20 side is disgraceful. Pick the best team, which happens to be the most exciting team. And guess what the crowds will be huge and people will be interested again.

Warner
Blizzard
Marsh
White
Watson
Paine
Smith
Harris
Heal
Nannes
Tait

Dave Hussey and a couple of others unlucky to miss. But thats what a real T20 side looks like, not the one that turned up to play at the WACA last week. Batsmen that can hit the ball out of the ground, bowlers that can scare the sh*t out of the batsmen.

One Dayers:

Watson
Marsh
Ponting
Paine
White
M. Hussey
Smith
Harris
Doherty
Hilfenhaus
Nannes

Obviously not all the players with the "CA marketing tick of approval, but I think that's a pretty decent side. Maybe some youth like Hazlewood or Pattinson get a look in. Also Matthew Wade should be right up there.

Test side in about a year hopefully:

Watson
Hughes
Marsh
Clarke
Khawaja
Ferguson
Paine
Hauritz (there aren't really any other spinners to replace him with)
Johnson (fairly reluctantly, but he still has value)
Hilfenhaus
Hazlewood (hope he'll be in there soon)

That last bowling spot could have gone to a few players, hopefully like me, the selectors will go for somebody young. Again Matthew Wade should be neck and neck with Paine for the keepers spot, but Paine's done enough to suggest he'll get it and do well. We need fresh blood in that team as soon as the Ashes are over.

some good side suggestions. Starc and Johnson just coming off a good bowling performance at the Gabba. Johnson again failing to do it on a pacemans paradice.

LOL he bowled tight and should have had a wicket first pill... Clearly a Johnson basher....

LOL he bowled tight and should have had a wicket first pill... Clearly a Johnson basher....

He bowled ok but not where we want our test bowlers to be. Sure it was better bowling than what he's produced recently. I'm not a Johnson basher, I just don't rate him. I never have. I always wondered how he ever took wickets when he was taking them and now he'd not taking them and it makes more sence. He got it right in one series in south africa. He was brilliant there. He has had a few series where he did ok and took wickets but the luck has run out and the patience of waiting for him to come good is running out.

He could not have been presented with better conditions for pace bowling today and took none with the new ball and got hit a little bit. That's a worry.

We have better players. If Johnson gets his seam and accuracy right he'd be a star but when will that happen?

North

Hauritz

Is what I would go with for Brisbane. No one has knocked down the door to replace bowlers unfortunately. Would have Johnson and Hauritz in particular on notice. Not many spinners waiting in the wings but the likes of Harris Copeland George Shittle McKay Hazlewood Cameron etc waiting in the wings means no bowler should be exactly safe at present.
North in by the skin of his teeth, because i'd like to see Fergusson put a few good games together and am not yet sure White can stand test cricket.

ODI's

Watson
Haddin
Punter
Clarke
White
M Hussey
Smith
Doherty/Hauritz
Lee
Harris
Bollinger

McKay

Lee could be vital for the World Cup, see how he goes in NSW games but him firing would be a huge boost. This side has pretty good variation and good batting depth. 4-6 pretty variable depending on the situation, White can be moved around at a pinch.

Twenty20 - no idea...

Here was I thinking the real selectors did a poor job! I know the Vics like to over rate their players but Wade was number 2 to Paine in Tassie and still is now. Smith at number 6? What has O'Keefe done to warrant a test spot? Watson may be a complete douche but hes still easy in the best XI in any form of the game currently.

Smith could handle 6, but there are others in front of him.

O'keefe averages 25 with the ball, again would like to see how he goes in some more first class cricket.

Yes, Watson has to be in the side.

As much as I hate to say it, hauritz is Australia's No.1 test spinner. No fact can deter from that. You cannot deny it, only hate it!

I don't care what anyone says or who plays or what not?

But Phillip Hughes is the most overrated player in the country and should never play for Australia again
