  • FOLLOWING an impressive hit-out in today's practice match, Steele Sidebottom has stamped himself as a key component in the Magpies line-up.
The first-year player - taken at 11 in last year's AFL Draft - has impressed the coaching staff with his first-class disposal.

"Every side has two or three players you want with the ball in their hands, and he's going to do that for us," assistant coach Mark Neeld said following the intra-club practice match at Gosch's Paddock today.

Played in 40-plus degree temperatures, the match was the Magpies' final hit-out before next week's NAB Cup match against West Coast in Perth.

Neeld said only three players on the Magpies' list would not be available for selection next week - Anthony Rocca - who is being eased into game shape, Paul Medhust - who is injure d - and Kevin Dyas, who has a hamstring injury.

Two players who didn't play today are still in line for a game next week - Sean Rusling who is recovering from injury and Alan Didak who had been given this weekend off to attend his brother's wedding.

Another one for me Dave. :)

Sweeeet.

Shattered I didn't make it. Too hot, and there's a fire near my house so I'm gonna hang around to evacuate the pets. :)

Beams and Rusty are going to be our deadly duo for a decade, I can feel it.

He was so impressive today, cant wait to watch his career unfold in the black and white.
Every year sinse he started playing footy he has played with older kids with bigger bodies and ended up being 1st picked in the team every year..blows me away to think he is stepping up already against afl men

Can't wait to see Steele and Beams in the B&W. I know as supporters we build our recruits up but even the coaches are talking these guys up before even playing a game. Neeld is already saying Steele is going to be one of our go to men and Beams has been spruiked by the club in almost every training reoprt on the website. Wow, talk about putting extra pressure on the kids. I like it though, they must think they can handle it.

Out of the whole article though anyone else a little bit nervous about the last bit? For god's sake Dids stay on the soft drinks.
