Pies Salary Cap Pressure - real or just theory

The only way it makes sense is if we are under pressure to keep it above the minimum spend

But no club should EVER be under pressure to keep above the minimum spend, as you can always simply front load a couple of players contracts so that you meet it this/next year, and yeah sure if you keep on doing that you will eventually have 'a lot' of free space in 3-5 years time with which you can sign a multi-million dollar free agent.

As Kirbs said, front loaded contracts is my guess and we've got most players locked away already.

Now the SC + ASA will be over $10 mil in 2015.

With the soft cap where you can spend 95% one year ($9.5 mil) and 105% the next ($10.5 mil) there is just there alone $1 million in the chest. If we have sorted our contracts to be front ended (and these things are planned for years) then we might have $1.8 mil to play with, more if we let some players go or trade them out for picks.

Too add to this. Do we go for Danger or KPP Forward, we aint going to win nothing if White is our second Key forward, he needs to be 3rd -4th to make him work they way he did at Sydney who had Tippert, Goodes, Reid White, Moore wont be ready for at least 2yrs.

When does Swan go, do we go after Boyd rather than Danger, what about Patterson ?

Actually TPP in 2015 is over $11m (don't you read the OP) ?? ;):p

Clubs will come at Crows at a rate of knots next year with Dangerfield, Sloane and Walker as FAs. One will fall from the tree you'd think.

Im sure there is a strategy in place. Eg make sure there is a spare $1M in the cap for next season so we can go at Danger/Sloan/Walker and say - first in best dressed. THe current squad is not worth the current cap limit

I mentioned this yesterday. But if we have salary cap issues the club have seriously overrated our players. I know as supporters we tend to overrate players but how can the club be in a salary cap situation when we have bought in heaps of youth in the past 3 years for senior premiership players???
There's a reason why Geelong were so successful, all players agreed to take a smaller share of the pie to stay together and win multiple premierships, we had selfish individuals who wanted more for themselves as opposed to team success.

Same as Hawthorn. If all their players were on the open market....particually a few years ago when they were 2-3 years younger they would have had a squad worth over $15m. Buddy/Roughy/Lewis/Burgoyne/Mitchell alone could have fetched up towards a mill each. They are the ones laughing tho over those money hungry blokes (except buddy - he has had the success and cashola)!

Wait wait what? You get paid $90k a year if you're picked up at pick 85 in the draft!?!?

Player would need to play 6 games.

3rd round draft picks or later at this years draft (ie to play in season 2015):

Base $61,610 + match payments of $3,500 ea. Bonus payments for games played :

1-5 $3265
6-10 $3265
11+ $3265

Max bonus $9795

The base includes SGC contributions under legislation.

1st round :

Base $71,515 + $3,500 senior match day payments

same bonus payments as above.

These numbers are taken from CBA agreement.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we have front loaded the hell out of our TPP next year, to leave room for a big tilt at somebody, namely Dangerfield, this time next year.

Mason Cox is getting payed about 150k if I remember correctly. It was a bit of a bidding war and he would have made more money at home using his degree if we payed him the minimum wage.

If we have salary cap issues and came 11th we have some serious bloody issues. Tells me we are over paying some people who may not deserve it?

To suggest we couldn't get Varcoe cause he might not fit into the cap could be playing games. I suspect we must have a shitload in the cap.

Think about this. In the past two years we've lost Jolly, Didak, Krak, Thomas, Shaw, Lumumba, Beams, Maxwell, Ball to name a few. We should have a shitload of cash, I can't think of how it could be so that we don't.

Also, players often accept unders to play at Collingwood than elsewhere, Greenwood for example, even though he is getting more cash then he would if he was a one-club-player.

I've mentioned this a few times, but it's almost certain we are deliberately not paying 100% of the salary cap this season so we can then load up on a few choice free agents (and big trades) at the end of next season and pay over 100% of the salary cap as per the new rules.

No way we are anywhere near 100% salary cap going into 2015, it would be just stupid management if so.
