Players that will step up in 2006

Hopefully Livingston will be the player that stands up, but it's unlikely.

From the younger group, Fisher and Walker look the most likely to step up at this stage. Whereas in the older camp, I'm sure Lappin is keen to put a dismal year behind him.

Certainly. Murphy will get better once he doesn't have to play as a main forward. Giansiracusa was looking in stellar form before getting injured last year, has a hell of a lot of improvement in him yet.

Who is going to play as the bulldogs key forward?

Will Livingston still get a game, now that Saddington is at the club?

Steve Johnson - If he stays injury free his input to the Geelong side will be enormous. Has great goal sense (round 22 v Richmond - laying on his back, being tacked in the forward pocket...Classic), fantastic skills (especially by foot) and although not quick, just seems to dance around opponents with ease. Kicked 2 bags of 4 in his debut year and recorded his best tally of 6 against Brisbane up there in 2003 when they were flying. Bomber has had huge wraps on him and if he gets a full preseason under his belt, look out!!!!

Like the other Hawks supporters I will say Tim Boyle. This guy was so close to selection in 2004 before he did his leg and apparently in training he is showing his pre injury ability. I would also add a few other players including

Jarred Roughead - he is becoming a man mountain and is showing people why he was selected at number 2 in 04

Clinton Young - has great talent however he needs to find a few kilos

Jordan Lewis - Showed us Hawks supporters why he looks promising. Now he needs to get past year 2 blues and show the league why we are excited.

Robbie Campbell - AC and others had plans for him in 2005 however injury ruined his chance. Now he must show the supporters why the club has faith in him

Many more at Hawthorn however the above would have to be the core group.

yeh agree with all those except Campbell, have only seen him play a couple of times, but doesn't look all that flash. Could easily be wrong though as no doubt you know more about him than I do.

any reason you didn't include Schammer?

Cos its not really about stepping up for Scham, its more about regaining form and fitness. Remember 13 votes in the 2004 Brownlow and many 30 possesion games.

For Sydney, Doyle will step up if he can stay injury free, or at least not miss the whole year again.

I expect big things of Nick Eski Malkeski.

Saddington is anything but a FB/CHB. A pinch hit ruckman, HBFer, back pocket, CHF, FF, midfielder. Not a FB/CHB.

Tim Callan's one that I'd look at. But he'd have to get in ahead of David Johnson for that small defender's job in the backline. And they could move Rooke back there as well, but I'd prefer he stayed in the midfield, after what he showed as a tagger towards the end of the season.

Adelaide: Chris Knights
Brisbane: Jarrad Brennan
Carlton: Jordan Russell
Collingwood: Josh Fraser
Essendon: Henry Slattery
Fremantle: Daniel Gilmore/Ryan Murphy
Geelong: Tom Lonergan/Andrew Mackie
Hawthorn: Brad Sewell
Kangaroos: Chad Jones/Callum Urch
Melbourne: Chris A Johnson/Matthew Bate
Port Adelaide: Damon White
Richmond: Danny Meyer/Will Thursfield
St.Kilda: Leigh Fisher/James Gwilt
Sydney: Tim Schmidt
West Coast: Jamie Grayham, Beau Waters, Matt Rosa.
Western Bulldogs: Tom Davidson

It will change by NAB Cup time, when more training has been done.

I still think Danny is to skinny to have a massive impact next year but the year after will be a break out year. Thursfield is a interesting one, hasnt trained with the main group since Mid August with a back injury.
In conclusion i think
Richmond: Jay Schulz, Richard Tambling and a new draftee Matt White

Bravo macca69, good list.

Actually I think a few will be watching Essendon's midfielders with interest, a few decent youngsters who haven't been hyped up much outside of Windy Hill.

thats a good list, although there are a few players there I wouldn't have thought of myself. Is Russell ready, did he have that good of a year in the VFL, would have thought Fisher or Walker would improve more than Russell. Slattery is also an interesting one too, I woud have thought that Monfries, Dyson and Watson are better prospects than Slattery. Interesting with Geelong that you chose two young key forwards, who do have a fair bit of improvement in them, but would struggle to get a game with Ottens, Kingsley, Playfair and N. Ablett ahead of them IMO. Not too sure about Schmidt, what makes you think he will step up?

At North the expexted players to step up would be: Trotter, Urch and Smith (and Grima if he remains injury free).

The one most BF North fans are excited about is Chad Jones as he is a KPP.
