There are legends in the past about severed fingers (was it Chitty?), injured rucks going forward to kick bags (eg Dyer) but towering over them all as a grim and unforgiving collossus is Albert Leeter Collier. Thugs like Clayden, Basher Williams, Dyer etc were feared but Collier was feared and respected like no other.

Of the fellas I saw Darren Millane was a player who knew about pain. He played in pain and handed it out too. Extremely tough bastard. Playing the 1990 finals series with a broken hand was one of many extremely gutsy efforts by Pants.

Dipper was at least as tough. He wasn't as mean as Pants, but hurt just as many people (its just more of his hits were accidental). His effort in the 1989 GF playing 3/4's with a punctured lung (that would have killed him if he left it too much longer) is the epitome of tough.

Of current players I am impressed by the way Hodge delivered in that final last year when hurt. I can't understand why the Hawks hype Brown when they have a genuine cast-iron star like that.

Nick Maxwell wore a hit from Jonathon Brown that left him with a broken arm, but after the clash it was Maxwell who went after the ball and the Lion took a little breather. Very tough kid.

apparently he dislocated his shoulder most weeks in 2004 and couldnt really lift his arms in the GF.

It reminds me of Brad Scott. It was revealed after he retired that he played his entire career with the inability of raise one of his arms fully above his head after an injury before he was drafted. Only very few people were aware of this weakness supposedly.

Max Hudgeton has absolutely no regard for his own safety. Same with Kosi, but the difference is Maxy knows he's going to get hit.

Luke Ball is awesome as well.

Campbell Brown broke his arm or dislocated his shoulder against Adelaide a few years ago (2003, IIRC) and then threw himself into a contest immediately to stop Nigel Smart taking a mark within goalscoring range without regard for his own wellbeing. That's why so many Hawthorn supporters respect Mad Dog for his toughness.

In the Elimination Final he also flung himself into the goalpost at full speed to try to touch Jason Torney's shot at goal.

Tim Notting has little or no fear of getting wacked, obviously Jono Brown is another candidate.

Hodge and Brown.

Also, Steven Salopek.

I honestly have never seen the bloke play without bandages around his head.

Joel Smith broke Salopek's nose last year in a collision (accidental). Didn't Salopek simply get a bandage around his nose and come back on?

Cross and Addison have already been mentioned, but Tim Callan doesn't mind running back into a contest. Borderline suicidal with his efforts sometimes.

cred to the hawks supporters noticing salopek, he came to the club with a bit of a pretty boy image but constantly puts his heard over the ball/back with the flights.

i was pretty impressed with selwood on the weekend (geelong variety)

Glenn Archer has to be up there. Never ever saw him run away from a contest, put his body on the line every time.

Daniel Pratt - very much in the same mould as Arch, never flinches (preparing to cop crap from Hawks supporters..)

Anthony Stevens - Played in the 99GF on one leg, pain killers during the match, still walks with a limp. Ultimate team player.

From other clubs, really admire Campbell Brown, Scott West, Robert Harvey and Richo.
