If I can hack AFL 99 or even better, some PS2 games on there it’s a definite buy. Otherwise, maybe. PS1s are before my time, so I don’t have an attachment to them. The way I see it, I have a better AFL and Cricket game than what was around then, so I probably wouldn’t play it much.

i had a play station and loved it. But i dont have the same nostalgia with it as I do/did the nintendo

MGS, Persona, Destruction Derby (would have preferred 2 though), Abe (even though I have new and tasty), Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal and Cool Boarders 2 have me interested. Not sure enough to order one though.

Still some odd choices but solid enough to justify my preorder. Battle Arena Toshinden takes me back, although 2 was much better mechanically.

Quite a few games that were on the demo disc back in the day.

Now we wait for it to be hacked, have a drive full of iso images waiting.

I think the list is solid. They got the two absolute must haves in MGS & FFVII and both of those hold up reasonably well.

My issue is that the initial reveal of 5 games they were showcasing sequels that were clearly superior (Tekken 3/RR Type 4), but the next 15 they have a lot of the first games in a series where the sequels are noticeably better in quality. Twisted Metal 2, Syphon Filter 2, Destruction Derby 2 and GTA 2 are all better choices than their prequels.

Although as a personal choice I'd probably stick Driver in there over GTA, but they have clearly skewed towards getting a few names that are more relevant now (GTA/R6) than they were to Playstation at the time.

I’ve never understood why it is so hard to just release these games on PS4. Seems a waste to have more hardware when the current console is superior in every way. You could still sell them in a bundle with a selection screen etc.

It's not really a question of hardware. It's on different architecture and it's spending the money trying to get it to work on x86, or just re-create the old hardware and make more money. Just a way to make a quick buck as they will move more consoles than they would just re-releasing the games.

Given the PSX roms are at least 4 megs in size each, you won't be able to fit many on the HD anyway I reckon

Some games are in PAL so will probably run like arse. It’s a throw back to the old PAL and NTSC days where you needed to stick to your region. Not only will the games be lower FPS (if PAL 50 then probably 24fps) but they will also actually run slower. No idea how they will run on modern TVs and the article doesn’t clarify but it’s still pretty uncool.
