The thing that needs to be considerd is that Americans actually have some semblance of civil rights, Australians don't.

Will non violent, non compliance with the state be grounds for the electrocution of people?

Try telling that to the African American population.

You study law, I study law. We both know its a monopoly. Self defence was abolished in Victoria many years ago.
You know, I really doubt that.

I would happily advocate the killing of any cop who uses unlawful force,
Really? Any other things you're keen on the death penalty for? Street robberies, perhaps? Sexual assaults? Parking in the handicapped bay?

and I dare say its Un-Australian not to do so.
You know, I've always struggled with exactly what people mean when they say "un-Australian". But I'm pretty sure that's not it.

What do you mean 'we don't have civil rights'?

Christ, don't get him started! Didn't you know we live in a totalitarian regime where you can't walk down the street without risking being picked up by some goon squad and imprisoned indefinitely without trial?

I hadn't noticed it either, but apparently we do.

You'd be very surprised what some cops actually get up to on a daily basis, my friend.

Do you mean to say that reasonable force in defence of oneself or another is not an option in Victoria? That striking another person to save a life or protect against an assault in progress is never justified under law?

Oh but I'm sure the officer was being too rough?

The officer probably had the opportunity to draw his gun but was worried about the ramafications of doing so.

Exactly. He was probably aiming for the crooks legs when returning fire after the uproar over the last person the police had to shoot

I grew up in the 90s in Blacktown and surrounding suburbs.....not the nicest places in the world. Didn't roll with the best crowd either, but I was brought up in a catholic family, so knew to respect others, and especially the law.

We were hanging around Lalor Park shops late one night/early one morning, drinking, stoned, the usual shit for us. Cop pulls up. Everyone puts on the hard facade. Not me, I knew this cop. Old school. Hard as coffin nails. He saw me, I saw him, I sat on the ground, legs crossed. My mate, from a broken home, no respect or moral compass present, gets lippy. Cop says to him 'Surname and name' Smith, Bob was his reply, with a shit eating grin on his chevy chase. Cop says 'Last chance, REAL surname, real name. NOW.' Same reply. Cop walks to the boot of his squad car, produces the L-Z White Pages (Thicker than A-K, for which his real surname was in) walks up to him, WHACK. Thumps the pigment off his skin. Instant tears, respect given.

I wish cops could go back to that. Courts have forced their hand, and the deads**ts in this area just take the piss now.

I laugh about this daily.

hopefully the man that shot and killed an officer today

Let's wait and see what really happened first.

A POLICE officer fatally wounded in a shootout with another man today was a father of six, with many years in the force.

Senior Constable David Rixon, a 40-year-old highway patrol officer, was shot in the stomach and abdomen during an incident in West Tamworth, about 8am.

Paramedics rushed Sen-Constable Rixon to Tamworth Base Hospital, but he died a short time later.

Another man, who is believed to have fired the shots at the officer, was also taken to hospital.

BTW, only a complete moron would use an incident like this to excuse police brutality, regardless of the facts.

The irony here is startling. You give the benefit of the doubt to this guy yet the police are tried tested and convicted before the investigation is even undertaken. You sure are sinister when it comes to the police.

if the policeman was injured and the crook shot dead, Old Skool would have already been demanding the policemans badge.

But in this case its "Let's wait and see what REALLY happened..."

As opposed to the Police Media Unit/Herald Suns:

"It was an unfortunate and unavoidable tragedy"

......when it comes to gunning down 15 year old kids armed with swiss army knives?

......AND YOU ACCUSE ME OF DOUBLE STANDARDS?!

Get back to eating donuts and handing out parking tickets.

I'll wait for the official story.

Ahhh the old he was only 15 routine again. I forgot that a 15 year old cant stab u in the neck...gotta be 18 to do that.

Next i will hear the officer should have used capsicum spray today when he was getting shot at

I'll wait for the official story.

Well u didnt take any notice of the official story handed down by the state coroner in tyler cassidys case

He had been capsicum-sprayed twice without effect and advanced on an officer who was backed into a dimly lit stairway, the coroner found.
Three of the police fired at him after a warning shot and several shots at his legs failed to stop Tyler moving forward with the knives towards Leading Sen-Constable Dods.
"I accept this situation must have felt extremely perilous and life threatening," State Coroner Jennifer Coate said in her findings this morning.

that doesnt back up your case though so lets ignore the official story...

Funny how in the Cassidy case the croner agreed the police weren't out of line shooting him. Why? Because they were in peril!

DTRAIN half the people posting in this thread pretend the coroners report for that case never happened. Makes them look very silly

The headlines are interesting:
SHOT POLICEMAN "A DEVOTED DAD"

Was Tyler Cassidy not a loving son?
