Stick with Ratts. His record is good. A better run with injuries next year will make a big difference.

I tell ya what, the whole attitude to recruiting a new coach is so, I don't know what....mysitifying?..dumb?? How long was Malthouse a coach before snaring a premiership?..8 years...and it took him a second team with a great list to get there....

Ratts took over a team that was miles behind the 8-ball. Let's not forget how far we fell in those years. We were a laughing stock - no money, no players, no spirit and no HOPE. Year by year, he has steadily rebuilt the club, including overseeing the sacking of one of our few great players in Fev and having to deal with that loss to the quality of the playing list (a win, I know, but in terms of pure talent, a loss)....he has copped it for trading pick 11 for Brock McLean, yet McLean is probably right up there in our B&F now...Injuries have cruelled our year, this year. At the end of the day, the players make the coach, and when you're stuck with the slim-pickings that Ratten had on offer, you could argue that he's done very well this year.

Rather than being overreactive, we need to keep perspective. Last weeks loss was bad, but as I said in the autopsy thread, I think out expectations developed too fast, given our players missing to injury, after wins over other lowly sides. Tom Bell, Andrew McInness, Simon White, Zac Tuohy, Levi Casboult have all received valuable game time.

I actually admire Ratts for sticking with the young guys. It would have been tempting for him to revert to the experienced bodies of Russell, Thornton and Bower as the wins became more crucial, but he stuck to his guns, with one eye to the future, even knowing that it could affect his tenure as coach of the club! That is a man that deserves respect and the kind of character I want leading the club.

Hmmm hard to disagree

I can't stand the thought of an ex Collingwood Coach - coaching at Carlton to be honest. No disrespect to Malthouse - it is just his Collingwood connection grating I guess. The other thought is that Ratts has earned the right to finish his contract - one more year. We are closer to contention than this years results suggest and Ratts has learned a lot about what this list can and can not do as far as being competitive. He has made a lot of changes to the side already - some forced many not forced. Carlton should stick with Carlton - that is what my bones say anyway.

I personally feel that Howie would make a great coach

in five years after two flags I won't care

Just like the one in twelve years he gave Collingwood? Remember that for at least half that time they had a list full of players who were at least as good as our current list.

If we need to get a new coach then Bassett or bust as far as I'm concerned.

Did Kouta advocate change though?
I thought he just said that we must make the right decision. He didn't say what that answer was either way.

The way I and Channel Seven considered his comments was that he was an advocate of careful change. Then spouted off Elliott's philosophy of "premierships at all costs." Look where that got us. Kouta, for as good a player as he was, hasn't come close to having the same type of impact off of the field.

People talk about Mick only winning 1 premiership. Fair enough.

However, I feel alot of people overlook the fact that Mick got a very average list to back to back grand finals in his first 4 years at the club. I love Ratts, and yeah we had a shocking run with injury, but his best result as coach was 5th.

Just saying.

Why one when we can have all three? (Is there an image for that?)

On Saturday Ratten was tracking at up to 88%
How things can change after one game. There must be a saying to qualify that?

And I think if you started the poll before the Essendon game you would have had a different result as well. Goes both ways.

Mick playing it coy. Now telling Carlton no decision till October. Driving his price up maybe?

I think the decision to get MM is already done and dusted. Stretch it out to October and people might not think that the deal has already been done. Also I would imagine that MM has some media commitments until after the finals.

Would love to keep Ratts. Board needs to be strong but don't think they will. What now, sit around waiting for the press conference? If Ratts gets sacked it will be a worse result than anything that happened Saturday night for mine. Waiting for disappointment and sadness.
I agree with all of this. Not enjoying Malthouse's mannerisms at all and it could be that a deal has been done. I really hope not because I think that Ratts is still improving and has more upside than Mick.
As for a username, 'Bluehouse " just doesn't cut it. All sorts of seedy connotations.

i think the board should sack themselves first for giving him 2 years.Their the ones that are going to cost the club a fortune for their inept management so i reckon they should foot the hefty bill instead of begging supporters to part with their hard earned to become members. If you were conservative and put the cost a at million that would equate to approx 3300 new members(at approx $300 each) to cover their blunder.Or we can have approx 200 new Carltonians

Feel much the same way. Interesting that BRIB and presumably others are of the belief that the board needs to be strong and sack Ratts for Malthouse. I, like you, feel that if the board is strong they will stand with Ratts and avoid succumbing to the pressure of the media, community and an available Malthouse.

The players pissed me off no end on Saturday night, but it'll be twice as bad if they cost Ratten his job. It will be so disappointing and so sad.

My faith in the players took a big hit on the weekend, my faith in the board will wane if this goes through.

Looks more and more like a big cleanout at the end of the year. Who do i personally WANT? If I could choose anyone - I'd choose Paul Roos - but he seems to have a very strong personal dislike for Carlton. So my next choice would be Robert Walls - but he seems to love the media role too much. So of available - I guess Mick Malthouse would give the players the kick in the bum they need.
