Not the right incident to take that stance ;)

Well, like I said, I didn't see the incident, however, whatever decision an umpire makes, surely a player should be able to seek clarification.

Was Ponts aggressive towards the umpire?

Very aggressive and abusive calling him deaf and asking how can he umpire when he cant hear

The Ponting incident can be viewed here.

The first time I've seen it and it was probably worse on Ponting's behalf then I expected. He wasn't just dissenting the umpire's decision, but verging on belittling the umpire. Very foolish behaviour, especially in a match of relatively little significance.

Ive said all along he is a great batsmen but as a captain he cant take the pressure and makes errors .Hopefully England can put enough pressure on to make him crack .Also with a bit of luck he will lose it in the champ trophy and get banned for the ashes :D

Thanks for posting the video- the players should not be questioning the umpire, but fair dinkum- he's not charging into the umpire, not waving his arms about- he's asking a question- albeit not a brilliant move. I'm not a huge barracker of Punter with his antics at times, but that seems pretty mild in comparison to the laughable appeals that some countries- and yes, the Aussies are one of them, but not the only one- make.

Its more the abuse at the end that he got in trouble for

Its hard to take him seriously when he keeps preaching about the spirit of the game and how the Aussies are model cricketers then he is in trouble reguarly for breaking the code
Mate you support Boringland. The perennial comedy act.The only useful "tid bit" the Limes have ever contributed to cricket, apart from the fact they invented the game, is tea and scones at "tea".Be a jolly good fellow and I'll have two sugars thankyou. :)

Well I've just seen the footage and f*ck me, how precious can you get? Are these umpires that sensitive and for that matter the ICC that they can't take criticism??

I haven't seen it happen in cricket, yet, however, we're now seeing it in the AFL where arrogant umpires such as Goldspink are baiting players who are basically defenseless in terms of not being able to say anything back for fear of being punished on or off the field. An absolute friggin' joke!

I don't have any respect for sporting bodies with their current stance on communications between officials and players. The matter really is a dog's breakfast.

May be the case, but it seems to me the same as a batsman in baseball who questions a ball/strike call WITHOUT turning to face the umpire. Nobody in the stands knows that he is doing it, because he is in the batter's box, getting ready to face the next pitch. Say your bit and get set for the next ball. In baseball, if the batsman turns and gets into the umpire that is where he asks for trouble. He's letting the people in the stands see there is a problem. Punter is not trying to show the umpire up here, just venting his feelings.

The only reason we know what was said is because the stump cams picked up the words- Punter's body language is certainly well within bounds in my books, and if umpires have rabbit ears, that happens. A fine, maybe- suspension from matches? The ICC has got to be kidding if that happens.

Wow, so you think its fine to call an umpire deaf and say he should never be allowed be to umpire because he is too deaf?

Oh and the only reason he will be suspended is if its his 3rd offence in 12 months, this was a level 1 offence upgraded to level 2 for his 2nd offence, a 3rd offence is automatically a level 3 offence, if he doesnt learn then why not suspend him? He craps on about the spirit of cricket then goes over the top with abuse

As long as he is not putting profanity after profanity intop his words to the umpire, that should be acceptable- go back and read my bit on body language- he was doing nothing to get the crowd involved- he was not showing up the umpire, as happens numerous times with appeals and other issues on the field. The quality umpire SHOULD allow some comments to flow like water off a duck's back- that seems to be the case here. If you openly approach and antagonize, as Punter has done in other situations, THEN you have the code of conduct in reaction....

YOU calling someone aggressive and abusive? Take a look at most of your posts, you are always abusing someone in them, calling them this or that. I am surprised you are still allowed on this forum.

Guess I will be next on the abuse list.

But in all seriousness, why would you both disputing a wide in a game when you have the game won? It was in the 33rd over so the Windies were probably about 7-8 wickets down by then and no hope, just stupid
Its called competitiveness. Its an attitude that also has a little something to do with why they're sitting top of the table.

Ahh newbies, gotta love em

It wont be long, that is all he does. He is a pretender. I have never come across someone who thinks they know so much about everything but knows nothing. I bet he doesn't have too many mates either. Hence the reason he is on the internet all day and night. I am almost betting he hasn't been out on a saturday night in 12 months. Can't leave the internet. Probably has a pretend girlfriend on here too.

Why don't you tell us how well you know Ponting? Why don't you tell us you know about everything he does? You seem to know everything about everyone else.
