Actually no .
Only Sydney has the capacity to support an NFL team .
Australia is probably the most competitive football market .
You can argue about the "average" American but a significant number do .
Same about the rest of the world .Never say never . The boom in Australian Football is put done to the once large exposure on pay TV.
Exactly , gridiron continues to contract in Australia despite being on FTA.
There was a huge boom in Australian Football in North America when there was decent exposure on pay TV .Exposure on FTA would produce tremendous results .
And like all big markets a small percentage is a big number .
.
Cos, I think you need to get back on topic.
You are starting to contradict yourself, but I agree with most of what you're saying so you're barking up the wrong tree.
However I don't know why you think only Sydney would work. I personally would love to see a Melbourne team in the NFL. I think we could make a go of it. If we can have a successful soccer side based at the Dome, why not an NFL side ? Now that we are getting a rectangular stadium, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work there either. If they signed up Saverio Rocca or one of our current AFL guys as a punter you'd get instant massive support.
And how can gridiron be contracting when it has only just started on TV.
There are more gridiron players in AUstralia than there are Australian rules footballers in the USA and there are 10 time more people in the USA. Go figure. Canada with its historical support for cricket and rugby is a much better prospect for Aussie Rules and recent results between these two countries in Aussie Rules vindicate that.
Its funny that NFL vs CFL in Canada is trying to do the same thing that AFL vs NRL is doing in Sydney. But they are fighting a battle they can't win.
Back to South Africa.
