This exactly why we shouldn't do it. The only compromise I would consider (big MAYBE) is black and teal PBs. Just to see how it looks and what level of acceptance it gets.
Magenta is still a PAFC colour and I think it would look awesome on the BiB jumper… if we were ever to host a breast cancer awareness game - it would be a great top.

I would absolutely have our women's team wearing the exact same guernsey design as our mens team.

IMO, the addition of 'pink' to denote a women's team is contrary to the spirit of why the women's league was created in the first place.
I think this argument about "pink" for the women's game is too simplistic.

I feel like it focuses too much on the women playing the game and not enough on the kids interested in the game.

I get why people are suggesting it would be patronizing and gendered but I think in this instance there is a good reason for magenta.

I can tell you right now my daughter LOVES her pink PA cap and if there was a black white and magenta chevrons jumper available she would be nagging me to have it.

Like it or not, sales of AFLW specific merchandise is a massive part of having a team in the competition and I bet we would sell out of magenta BiB’s in a heartbeat!
Like it or not, a massive majority of girls love to wear pink - tapping into this market is a no brainer!

Apart from Fremantle adding a single pink chevron, which they were lambasted for, no other AFLW team has added pink to their guernsey. They are all derivatives of the AFL guernsey, and only slightly so.

It would be an extremely poor branding decision to create a pink/magenta guernsey for our women's team and not use a design based on the men's kit.

The worst thing about the 'Don't Brand Women's Stuff Pink' argument (which does have validity) is that we don't get some awesome designs with Pink in.

My favourite colour by far!

Other teams don't have the history with magenta that we do though.

pink is not one of our colors people. yes, your little girl will want a port guernsey with pink instead of teal. know why? cos they're a little girl

One of our NGA players, and 15yo

Lauren Young goes to Henley High so she is involved in their footy program.

At 15 she wont be eligible for the draft until 2024 but is part of our NGA and we have first dibs, but makes it clear she is a crows supporter.

She played in today's SANFLW GF for West Adelaide, but lost 2.5 v 5.10 to Glenelg. She got 18 disposals, 2nd highest for westies, but Ebony Marinoff played for Glenelg and she had a game leading 31 disposals.

Whenever I play MyGM on 2K with a new expansion franchise I always make my uniforms pink and black 😘🤏

Richo's CEO Message / email tonight addressed our bid for an AFLW team. First half was about tomorrow's game, Mots' 200th, Butters coming back, a Foodbank drive etc.

Re our AFLW bid he writes;

This Friday we are presenting our AFLW License submission to the AFL, with the aim of securing an AFLW license for entry into the competition in Season 7, starting in December 2022.

Our AFLW Steering Committee has been hard at work for more than 6 months in preparation for our successful entry into the AFLW competition, and for the last few months on the submission itself.

Our AFLW team will exist to win premierships, just like every other team associated with Port Adelaide. We will take 151 years of history with us into AFLW – the No. 1 guernsey for our Captain; 1870 on the back of the guernsey; and an ethos of never, ever giving up and from the outset we will be there to win, not just be part of something.

Great women have always been at the heart of this proud club. Too often, an unsung or an unseen force driving it on. There are some incredible legacies we will bring to life and celebrate through our submission, and beyond.

This week as I’ve gazed out of the window looking for inspiration over the magnificent Alberton Oval, the number of young girls out kicking the footy with their friends, sisters, brothers and fathers during their school holidays has been amazing … it’s a sign and I love it!

To provide these future AFLW players the opportunity to live their dream to represent Port Adelaide at the highest level is very exciting.

The re-development of Alberton Oval is underway, having secured the funding required to upgrade the player changerooms in the Fos Williams Family Stand at Alberton to provide state-of-the-art facilities for our female athletes as an important first step.

From a talent perspective we know there is a significant pool of talent coming through in SA, as part of the next generation of female players. Female participation in football has increased 20% YOY here in South Australia. The fact that our NGA team hasn’t lost in three years of playing the Crows NGA team gives us great confidence that our future team already knows the importance of this rivalry!

Having our whole community engaged and in behind our entry into AFLW is important, so I look forward to sharing our submission with you once we have presented it to the AFL.

Thanks already to the members who have reached out and expressed how important this is to them. To pledge your support for our AFLW license, please register here.

We’ve got a big couple of months ahead on and off the field, and I can’t wait to share that with you.

Cheers,

Richo

I’ve registered. I can’t wait for some summer footy to watch! Can’t bring myself to watch much whilst we aren’t in it.

Hopefully it will remain in the summer.

If the club was really wanting to show the afl how much it wants to respect itself, it would firstly present the PB to be the women's jumper. Why just stop at the Number 1 and 1870 monogram, because it is easier? See how much the afl really pays attention to aflw. Maybe catch them off their guard.

Just wait til she is a Port superstar. Will barely even remember the tingles.
