Lynch impressed me more in the second half. Was also impressed with Boumann. Ominous signs.

Great win by Willi

Totally agree with both - Should have been playing in the ones all year - thats how kids learn and improve -not playing VFL seconds - where Cordy & Grant are now !

Someone tell me that O'Keefe is better than what he's shown so far today. Bad decision making, slow, fades in and out and isn't going in hard enough.
Surely he's just having a bad day at the office?

What Game did you watch?

Okeefe got b o g because he had 20 + quality possesions especially his delivery into the forward line. His decision making was a class above as was mentioned by the commentators all day during the coverage.
He faded out of the game only when on the bench he helped turn the game when he went on the ball. They were 3 goals down early when he started up forward.

I suspect Grant and Cordy playing reserves was part form and part the fact that we're playing Port Melbourne and can only have a maximum of 12 players playing.

Billy, I know you have been pumping O'Keefe all year. I watched from just before 1/4 time and was very surprised when they gave O'Keefe the ABC award. I thought he was ok and had his share of the ball, but did not see him as being outstanding. Having said that Willi did produce a pretty good team effort with plenty of contributions.

The Bulldog listed players in my view.
Callan, Boumann, Tiller, Wood and Addison in the back half were all good.
Stack and Lynch were both lively and Roughead was good and looks an exciting ruck/forward prospect. O'Keefe as I said got his shareof the ball. Skipper seemed to spend more time forward and had minimal impact, although he was involved in a few scores.

The player I saw as outstanding and deserving of the medal was Willi listed player Dylan Joyce who had a real go and provides a lot of run. His ball use was also terrific.

I am basing my view on the TV coverage and people at the ground could have an entirely different perspective.

By my count there where only 10 Bulldog listed players in the Willi seniors. I suspect the selection has more to do with the best fit for Willi to win their own finals.

I agree I thought the promoted Lynch and dropped Grant because of the Conditions. Thought Port went to Tall. Will be different if we play them when conditions suit there team.

The game on the ABC today mate. Thankfully after my post earlier, O'Keefe got better in the second half and had a servicible game (to the extent that I think he could be a player after he gains some fitness). But his efforts in the first half were woeful as he continually had his kicks smothered or go straight to the opposition. He looked slow and unwilling to put his head over the ball.

In saying that he got much better after half time, still I was expecting (after reading some posts on this board) a star but what I got was a good kid who looks to need some work to be AFL ready, especially since he'd be taking the place of a Gia, Hahn or Akermanis.

Otherwise it was a fantastic win by Willy.

That surely is the key to having a premiership side, blooding new players in must win finals. :thumbsu:

Are you for real?

Len Thompson (also a ruckman and later a Browlow Medallist) debuted in a final too. Didn't seem to harm him or Collingwood. That was long before the Rising Star Award but the media called him "recruit of the year" on the strength of just his finals games.

Precedents aside, and although I've been a big wrap for Roughie all year, I wouldn't contemplate it unless Minno or Hudson went down. Then it would be an interesting call between Roughie and everybody's favourite emergency, Wayde Skipper. I think Eade would probably go for Skip. I just don't know enough about Roughie to have that much faith in him for a debut in a final!

What an opportunity though, if it did come his way...straight out of "Boys Own Annual"!

There's a name from the past. Pies? Even I can remember him - didn't he have a big gut?

The gut arrived after his playing days as he was a lively half forwad with a decent kick. Too many "pies" and no exercise.

Interesting takes on Bulldog listed players contributions in this thread to date.

I thought O'Keefe, although quiet in 1st half, had a great 2nd half, and some of his disposals to lead up players was terrific. Someone suggested he should be "blooded" in a final. Hmmm. One of my local clubs few claims to fame re VFL/AFL players is Mike Cook. Remember his surprise call up to the Hawthorn team in the 80's for the finals as their FF ? He played his only games for the Hawks and faded into oblivion the next season. I think unless something horrific regarding injuries (touching wood), GOK will be our smokey for 2010. I am sure he would have been given at least one run in the Ones had he ticked all the boxes apart from form. Obviously he didn't/hasn't.

Boumann. I like the cut of this guy, though not convinced re his commitment or decision making as yet. Definite potential.

Roughead. Hardly sighted early, but had a great cameo, pulled down a few "power forward" type marks. I think he is still the untried player most likely to have an impact in 2010. A tad of excitement re his build and readiness for AFL games.

Addison was OK, but again, despite his obviously courageous playing style, doubt he has a place inour best 22. Nice backup however!

Callan. Nup. Well behind others now.

Skipper. Nup. Not his best game. Interesting that the commentators installed him as fave for the Liston. Sums up poor Wayde. Great VFL level player, unlikely AFL type.

Lynch & Stack. Both very classy, but not consistent in game quality or commitmemnt. We know what they can do, I just wish they'd do more of it.

Tiller did nothing to alter his role as a WB back up tall defender, but nobody in current 22 would be losing sleep at night.

Easton Wood, similarly, did enough to warrant "hope" for a finals gig if required, but didn't coerce any favours over existing 22 imho.

The kid I liked, for potential as a rookie is Dean Galea. I know Rose & Little were the talk, but they are older, whereas Galea seems to have a bit of size about him, and is younger I think! The little tacker Dylan Joyce looks lively too...and is only 19!!

Is that the smell of a dual flags for the WB in 2009?.....:D

hooroo...

Selectors have persisted particularly with Grant in the ones all year until now and his confidence has just ebbed to the point where he was bloody awful last week against Casey.

You also should take into account that Williamstown is not WB seconds per se and that part of the balance of the alignment between the clubs needs to take into account that VFL clubs have supporters who want to see their side do well. If WB developing players cannot hold down a spot then so be it.

I doubt if players like Lynch, Mulligan, White, Shaw and some others would have improved their game by playing VFL ones every week.
