Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Hanley, Hartlett, Goodes (Pittard, Stevenson)

Swan, Jack, O'Keefe, Fyfe, Moloney, Embley, Viney, O'Meara (Mitchell, Jones)

Smith, Jacobs (Rowe, Naismith)

Cox, Rockliff, Bolton, Karnezis, Varcoe, Byrnes (Macaffer, Dwyer)

Those five premium defenders are my tip for the top 5 defenders of 2013, very happy to have them all. Unbelievably pissed that the Saints board gave me the advice that Geary was going to play a shutdown role and shouldn't be picked. Had him in my team 2 days before lockout, what a terrible call to take him out. Embley for Geary (via Goodes) is happening asap. That was an attacking rebounding game by him last night, he will average 85+ this year.
Really happy that I got my 500k mids right in O'Keefe and Jack when others have been hurt badly by Greene, Thompson, Danger, Selwood etc. Fyfe will improve and average 100+ so I'm not concerned about him.

Smith needs to become Leuenberger soon, thank God I traded McEvoy out just before lockout.

Bolton was a unique that didn't workout, will become Kennedy soon.
Pretty happy with that team though, should get 2000 this week.

  • Fairly common back line. Decided to stick with the 3-0-5 despite some back line rookie options not playing. Kept Terlich as he surely can't be far away from selection.
  • No Ablett, wanted to wait and see how his role would affect his scoring. Needed the extra cash for round 1 anyway.
  • Dangerfield was selected because I was backing his physical attributes to be able to beat the tag and still score well. Didn't work on the weekend but he will be staying in my team for at least another week.
  • Masten was my unique pick. With the injuries to WC he is set for more midfield time and he usually does score well when given more opportunity. Didn't score that great last week but with a more open game next week I'm hoping he will score much better.
  • Whitfield caused me some grief trying to bring him in. Really wanted him for his outside DT friendly style. Didn't see the game last night but he obviously didn't score that great. Mitchell would have been my next choice and he is sub so not too bad.
  • Stuck with Crouch as he should be in the team very soon.
  • Kreuzer was in and out of my team for a lot of the preseason. Was pretty sold on him after seeing how well he was moving in the first game of NAB cup. Great start from him.
  • Have gone with a risky forward line because I wasn't keen on the premiums. Not really sold on Zorko but I thought Brisbane would smash the Dogs last night and he would have a big game. Just didn't happen.
  • Martin was selected on upside. His role is concerning.
  • Watts has actually been a player that hasn't moved from my team for most of the preseason. Playing a DT friendly role and is due for a breakout season.
  • Monfries was a late inclusion.
  • I have spent a lot of money in my forward line to counter the lack of rookie forwards. Wasn't keen on Varcoe/Byrnes so went with slightly more expensive mid pricers.
  • I believe I can afford to have such a risky forward line because I plan on trading one to Leuenburger in a couple of rounds and moving Cox back forward.
Think that's about it.

Hmm it's like some sort of bizzarro world in this thread with more teams without Ablett than with. When did all this happen? In 90% of the teams in the Rate My Team thread and on the other DT sites Ablett was as much a must have as Swan...or did I miss something in the last few days that caused so many people to jump off the little master? Not trolling, I swear. Thread just looks odd with so many Ablettless teams this year.
Morons believed that article about him playing forward

B: Goddard, Gibbs, Hartlett, Heppell, Goodes, Pittard (Stevenson, Heath)

C: Swan, Ablett, Pendlebury, Lucas, Stevens, Wines, O'Meara, Viney (Kommer, K.Mitchell)

R: Cox, Maric (Blicavs, Moller)

F: Rockliff, Zorko, Martin, N.Riewoldt, Siposs, Karnezis (Macaffer, Neade)

I actually had a much more generic team a few days out from lockout but once I saw Leuenberger and Vlastuin weren't selected I did a major restructure which involved getting rid of players like Chapman, Franklin, M.Murphy & T.Lee and including players like Siposs, N.Roo, Hartlett & Maric

N.Riewoldt, Siposs, K.Lucas were included in my initial team as part of a trading plan I have. They probably won't be there for long but I chose them because I thought they would all start the year fast. It hasn't really worked out that way in round 1 unfortunately but I'm hoping they can still turn it around in the coming weeks.

In the next couple weeks I hope to trade K.Lucas to Leuenberger when he is selected and swing Blicavs into the mids. Then I can downgrade a forward - All my forwards save for Rockliff are currently on the chopping block - for Currie and swing Cox forward giving me plenty of cash to fix up any mistakes in my initial team. Then later in the year I can upgrade Leuenberger to either a gun centre or forward through the links with Blicavs and Cox.

So yeah I definitely selected my team with a basic plan to try and capitalise on the additional trades we have this year. It will be interesting to see how many - if any - of my planned trades I make in the next few weeks. I fully expect that injuries/unforeseen rookie selection issues will come into play but it is always fun to plan ahead, that way you can laugh when your best laid plans turn to shit :p

Hey! I'm not a moron!

...I'm just the King of Idiots... :(
For I am BostrichBurger, Lord of the Idiots! :D

Seriously though I was considering leaving Gaz out too but ultimately I didn't have the balls. I hope your gutsy move pays off for u :thumbsu:*

*I don't at all actually. I'm hoping Gaz goes on to average 135+ this year :p

Quite happy. Has served me well thus far in R1 so here's hoping that continues.

I've got $83,000 in the kitty.

LeCras is a problem... No trades for Round 2, I wanna see if either Danger or Shuey can break a tag or if Watts has another sub par game. If that's the case, then I'll downgrade one of the above and pick up either a cheap Franklin or bring in Rockliff.

EDIT: If its any consolation, I got my Captain and Vice Captain right! :D

Congrats mate. You seem to have avoided most of the carnage so far. Is that Joel or Scooter in your mids?

My backline was fantastic this round, but midfield with Swallow, Danger and Embley, and Zorko in the forward line, have been disappointing. Have read Embley may be the new Gaff this season, so may punt him :/

Yeh read that in the paper. May get rid of him as well. It makes sense. He will benefit a lot having the green vest being an older player.

seems crazy to me.. Embley's tank is f..ing huge and exactly what the west coast need for 4 qtrs... given their growing injury list and all.

I concur, especially since they're playing on Sunday..will have had a nice long 15 day break. Not to mention they're playing an experienced Hawks line up. Would be mad to not start him on the ground, especially since they really lacked run against the Dockers.
