I keep tossing and turning with my team, need some advice with it

Goddard, Deledio, Gibbs, Duffield, Grimes, Otten, Heppell (Toy, Watson, Lower)

Swan, Boyd, Bartel, Cotchin, Swallow, Gaff (Prestia, Hibberd, Wallis)

Cox, Mumford (R.Campbell, Derickx)

Didak, Sylvia, Riewoldt, Higgins, Yarran, Knights, Krakouer (Richardson, Matera, Michie)

Not sure about Cotchin vs Scully and whether Yarran and Knights are too risky to both have in the team.

52K spare as well which I like as well

Back: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Heppel, Duffield, Shaw, Otten, (Toy, Duigan, Puopolo)

Mid: Boyd, Montagna, Pendlebury, Palmer, Conca, Pittard, (Swallow, Harris, Hibberd)

Ruck: Ryder, Cox (Smith, Derickx)

Forwards: Franklin, Sylvia, Higgins, Krakouer, Varcoe, Zaharakis, Knights, (Prestia, Matera, Richardson)

+72k spare

Yes its very similar to everyone elses. However does anyone have any thoughts about Shaw and Varcoe? Good idea picking them?

Heath Shaw is one of the most inconsistent DTers in the comp - certain to frustrate you. If he avoids a tag, he's fine, but he receives attention fairly regularly now.

Varcoe is a gamble, worth a punt if you believe he'll step up. Hasn't really featured much this preseason though; only made his first appearance last weekend (19 disposals and 2 goals).

Now that I have your attention

Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Heppel (Toy, Duigan, Lower)

Mids: Swan, Boyd, Montagna, Swallow, Conca, Prestia (Harris, Atley, Hibberd)

Rucks: Sandilands, Cox (Smith, McCauley)

Forwards:
Franklin, Goodes, Johnson, Riewoldt, Higgins, Knights, Krakouer (Richardson, Matera, Darling)

Fits in the cap by $100. Thoughts? :thumbsu:

I'd swap Goodes for someone like Pavlich and I'd be trying to get Sylvia or Didak in the forwards.

Not sure about 3 guns 3 rookies especially when the Saints and the Dogs have the bye but it will be interesting to see how it works out

BACKLINE: Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Gwilt, Everitt, Otten, Puopolo (Buckley, Lower, Hibberd)

My weakest third. Thoughts on other players I could swap for?...players potentially in the mix Adcock, Astbury, Surjan, Campbell Brown, Drummond, McGrath.

Just updated my defence:

Goddard, Gibbs, Bruce, Grimes, Gwilt, Astbury, Otten (Lower, Hibberd, Puopolo)

An Improvement? Thoughts..

As you should be with such a good team.

That said, I don't like Smith and Irons as your midfield reserves, as their JS is poor imo, but it's a very solid side.

I understand Smith's DP status, but as long as you're aware that he's probably borderline best 22.

Not having Swan is a risk, but I don't mind that this year.

I'd swap Goodes for someone like Pavlich and I'd be trying to get Sylvia or Didak in the forwards.

I like Goodes this year and think he's a safer bet than Sylvia. I've had both in my team, but I worry that Sylvia goes missing. Sylvia is great when he plays half forward and has the occasional stints in the midfield, but he's being groomed more as a midfielder this year and I've never thought he finds the ball easily in this role. I just don't reckon that he's a natural midfielder that gets easy cheap ball. I know that it goes against the grain, but the more he plays midfield the less valuable he is in DT for me.

I'll be picking Goodes ahead of him.

I think Pendlebury has the potential to rival him score wise, and with Goddard/Boyd I have options with the captains, and I think I can get Swan in fairly quickly after his first bye. I really wanted to keep him in my side but the cash gained from going down to Pedlebury was too good to pass up.

As I said I have the 21k to spare and I can just move Prestia in my mids and remove Smith to start. Which rookies would you favor instead? I'm also unsure about Tapscott.

I was thinking of getting Bewick in.

B; Goddard, Deledio, Broughton, H Shaw, Hurn, Krakouer, Lower (Toy,Dulgard,Hibberd)

C: Swan, Ablett, Boak, Mundy, Swallow, Krakouer (Heppel, Harris, Atley)

R: Sandilands, Cox ( Bailey, Moran)

F; Goodes, Riewoldt, Pavlich, Le Cras, Fyfe, Yarran, Darling (Matera, Tapscott, Michie)

Thoughts anyone ? or should I just type it out ?

Maybe type it out next time makes it easier for us. By the way i'm guessing your going for a league win?

Backs - Looks good, but Broughton and Grimes are a little risky as they often get injured. Unsure about Cripps.

Mids - Rockliff is interesting, he could be a chance of getting tagged. Maybe Black and Rich will cop it though. I think Polec will struggle in his first year as he needs a better team to give him the ball. Conca is a better option IMO. I wouldn't be picking Wallis maybe swap with Bewick or maybe Atley or maybe Libba. Never heard of J Bolton.

Rucks - Risky. Warnock has had a bad injury history, I'd recommend you get some back up with Petrie or Hale. Zac Smith GC should be put in also.

Fwds - Looks good. Not sure about McKernan or Michie especially. Both have poor job security.

Jye Bolton. I wouldn't expect him to get a game this year. Actually I would be close to 100% sure. He will be good in the future, but not a good pick for now.

I like Goodes as a pick. Has been firing through the pre-season and with a new coach, looks set for another very good season. Pavlich I don't think will score as much as Goodes, and he also has that round 6 bye that he'd be sharing with Franklin and Johnson. A bit risky.

Didak had a bit of an inturrupted pre-season, so I'm not sold on him at full price. Sylvia would be the next in line, after my 5 premiums. I think he can have a good season, a very good season, but with Franklin, Johnson, Riewoldt and Goodes all ahead of him as premiums (and Higgins as a underpriced premioum) I just don't see how I could bring him in.

I think that, whilst it isn't ideal, 3 guns 3 rookies is the best way to go abotu this season. Maximise where the rookies score highest, eg. midfield and strengthen the rest of the team with premiums a mid-pricer at each end, followed by a rookie at each end. For me, that gives a balanced side. The midfield should eb able to eb upgraded wuickly, with options such as Ablett maybe appearing if he gets off to a slowish start, as is expected.

I think I can definately cover round 4, due to the dual positioning that I have available.
If I could change the way your team is today, I wouldn't change a single thing.

My first year of DT, a bit of cash at at stake. Tell me what you think.

Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Hibberd (Toy, Puopolo, Duigan).

Mids: Swan, Montagna, Selwood, Goodes, Heppel, Swallow (Atley, Harris, Mzungu)

Forwards: Chapman, Franklin, Riewoldt, Higgins, Knights, Krak, Richardson (Prestia, Matera, Darling)

Rucks: Sandi, Jolly (Z. Smith, Derickx)

Very much a newbie, can't say I really know what I'm doing apart from looking at how I'll cope with the byes. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I like the fact that you've stated that money is at stake, because it assumes that you're going for a league win.

The main change I'd make is to remove Chapman because he hasn't played a preseason game, and is doubtful for round 1. I'd move Goodes into the forwards, and pick up another $400k mid. This should free up some cash

I'd also look at your bench/rookie players. Mzunga's out till mid year, and I think that having Swallow, Heppell and Prestia is a luxury at their price. I'd prefer a midpricer like Ward if you can afford him.

Seriously good side BP. How's your track record 'cos it looks like a top 1000 contender given good trading to me.

4 thoughts for you.

1.) You may cop a donut round 1 in the mids. I doubt Atley will make it.

2.) A touch risky in the backs with both Grimes and Broughton not renowned for durability which will be crucial with byes this year

3.) Apart from Knights no midpricers to make those early couple of trade ups more affordable. With no cash left you'll have to wait for, and rely on, cash cows increasing in value quickly.

4.) Reliant on Smith playing by round 5 in rucks. Should be OK but he hasn't appeared yet so a bit of a risk.

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, B. Deledio, P. Duffield, A. Otten, J. Toy, M. Hibberd (J. Batchelor, N. Duigan, N. Lower)
MID: D. Swan, M. Boyd, L. Montagna, N. Foley, D. Swallow, D. Heppell (D. Prestia, D. Harris, S. Atley)
RUC: D. Cox, D. Jolly (J. Tippett, Z. Smith)
FWD: L. Franklin, A. Didak, C. Sylvia, A. Goodes, N. Riewoldt, D. Petrie, A. Krakouer (B. Matera, C. Richardson, L. Tapscott)
CASH LEFT: $131,400

Not sold on Atley, maybe change for Bewick. Consider cashing in Jolly for Sandilands but the extra cash will make upgrades easier.

I think Petrie missin round 1 is ok as I can cover for round one a lot easier than others obviosuly. Sure he has a bye in round 3 but all players have byes and I like the security he give me in ruck given Smith has yet to play.

Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Duffield, Grundy, Stanley, Toy, Hibberd, Lower, Duigan

Swan, Boyd, Kornes, Stanton, Swallow, Harris, Heppell, Lock, Atley

Sandilands, Cox J.Tippet, Smith

Franklin, Goodes, S.Johnson, Riewoldt, Petrie, Krakouer, Prestia, Richardson, Matera, Darling

55k remaining

thoughts?

9 GC rookies, and I would like to get Day in there. This will no doubt all change.

B; Goddard, Deledio, Broughton, H Shaw, Hurn, Krakouer, Lower (Toy,Dulgard,Hibberd)

C: Swan, Ablett, Boak, Mundy, Swallow, Krakouer (Heppel, Harris, Atley)

R: Sandilands, Cox ( Bailey, Moran)

F; Goodes, Riewoldt, Pavlich, Le Cras, Fyfe, Yarran, Darling (Matera, Tapscott, Michie)

24k left.

Thoughts?

Sack Hurn, at best he will average 70, not a big possession winner, not sold on Shaw. Get rid of Ablett, will not hold his price early on in the season and with his last bye in round 9 he is an upgrade target this year. Love the Boak selection, think he is ready to explode this year. Mundy is unique but probably better options. Get Franklin in, will be the highest scoring forward this year and I think there are better options than Fyfe.

B: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Heppell, Toy (Lower, Batchelor, Duigan)
M: Swan, Boyd, Selwood, Murphy, Boak, Swallow (Prestia, Hibberd, Curnow)
R: Ryder, Cox (Z.Smith, Mcauley)
F:Franklin, Riewoldt, Rioli, Higgins, Krakouer, Richardson, Matera (Darling, Tapscott, C.Dixon)

Would have been my set in stone team if not for the Mzungu injury, would have been confident with my forward line with him instead of Dixon as he would have been a very high scoring rookie but now not sure.

Any suggestions?

DT draft no. 251 with changes to come:

Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Grundy, Otten, Stanley (Duigan, Toy, Lower)

Mids: Swan, Stanton, Cornes, Palmer, Ward, Krakouer (Harris, Bewick, Hibberd)

Rucks: Sandilands, Cox (Tippett J, McCauley)

Fwds: Franklin, Riewoldt N, Higgins, Knights, Yarran, Petrie, (Richardson, Matera, Darling)

I've taken the following strategy:

1. No 1st year rookies in my best 22, and avoided high priced ones.
2. Side heavily stacked with midpricers, to enable quicker upgrades.
3. No premiums missing in the 1st 3 rounds due to a bye.
4. Apart from Swan, have avoided super-premium mids at this stage. Will wait until after round 6 when I start upgrading.
5. Tried to factor in DP, but with the exception of my rucks, have just gone for best available rather than focus on DP.

Confident on your ruck bench with byes?
