Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Duffman, Grimey, Otten, Duigan (Hibberd, Toy, Lower

Center: Swan, Pendles, Boak, L Anthony, Conca, Heppell (Krak, Harris, Iles)

Rucks: Cox, Jolly (Lobbe, Smith)

Forwards: Buddy, SJ, Riewoldt, Higgins, Knights, Tapscott, Richardson (Petrie, Matera, Prestia)

113.3 k.

Now Swan and Pendles can be covered by Krak, Harris, Iles, Higgins and Prestia, two of those seven can cover two. Petrie covers Jolly.

As for Franklin and SJ, two of Petrie, Prestia, Krak, and Matera can cover.

Too much of a risk? Or is the upside too great?

It seems that the problems are Pendles, Jolly and SJ. I don't like any other rucks (Sandi is at his peak and has injury problems, Ryder has bye problems and Mumford clashes with Cox, and Luey plays for the lions), and I like either Boyd as a top, Bartel as a mover and Sylvia as a double position mover.

So should I SJ -> Sylvia and Pendles -> Boyd/Bartel? Either? Both?

Under my understanding with Sylvia and Boyd/Bartel there would be no doubles of byes in one position which we're all avoiding, and I and most others seem fine having a forward, back and mid out just not two (I'm aware Duffield and Grimes both bye in rd 16, but I'll definitely upgrade by then. What do people think?

I also took Atley out, put Krak in the middle and replaced Krak with Tapscott for a link. Good idea?

These players I definitely wouldn't pick. Not sure who Tape, Pittard, Howe and Skinner are though??? Too much money on your ruck bench. Downgrade Fraser to Bailey or someone like that and upgrade Dangerfield to a premium.
I can see where you're coming from with Gilbert, may be distracted by the events of the off-season. However, Gilbert has the benefit of being a dual position player, I can swap him into the backline to cover byes/injuries.
Got Fraser as cover for when Essendon or Freo have the bye, or if one of my two main rucks goes down. I'm unsure whether Bailey's knee can hold up.
Could be worth swapping Corey as well. Do you think he may struggle without Ablett in the side?
I disagree with you on Maric. He's had an outstanding pre-season, been consitently in the Demons best the past few weeks. Should get more opportunities this year.
Seb Tape is a Gold Coast defender. Is cheap and has been in their best during the preseason matches.
Jasper Pittard was a first round pick in the 2009 draft, didn't play last year. However, Primus has guaranteed that barring injury, he'll line up for Port in round 1.
Jeremy Howe was a second round pick for the Demons in last years draft. Mature aged, and has been compared to Russell Robertson. Not sure if he'll be a regular, but my team is named after him - he's there purely as a mascot.
Zephaniah Skinner from the Bulldogs - he's kicked a couple of bags of goals during the pre-season matches. Could be a walk up start, has been compared to Liam Jurrah.
Edit: Upgraded Corey to Joel Selwood.

I have gone a different way this year. I'm not going to start out with Goddard. I'm going to upgrade to Goddard in about round 5. I also have plans which I won't discuss here. You will look at one area in my team and think WTF is this guy doing? I have plans, and if you knew them you would understand why this team is a bit obscure.

Deledio, Everitt, Wood, Astbury, Heppell, Hibberd, Duigan (Lower, Toy, Puopolo)

Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Pendlebury, Judd, Cooney (Harris, Pittard, Beams)

Sandilands, Cox (Trengove, Hale)

Goodes, Johnson, Riewoldt, Gray, Duncan, Knights, Krakouer (Matera, Richardson, Darling)

Backs - Stanley will score more than Hunt. The rest looks fine.
Midfield - Shuey and S.Selwood? I would probably only pick 1 of them picking them both is taking a big gamble. You sure you want Judd he isn't a great DTer. Watson? Probably better picks around his price. Also you need a DPP in the midfield who has both back and midfield so you can swap him with Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio or Heppell. I recommend Hibberd.
Rucks - Mcintosh is injured I'm pretty sure he wont be ready round 1. Lycett wont play this year I wouldn't think with NN and Cox playing.
Forwards - Didak coming back from injury will probably score average at the beginning of the season. Rest of forward line looks good.

Thanks for the response.

Ill be sticking to Shuey and Selwood it will be the biggest gamble of my team but I think Shuey will hit an average of 90+ if he stays on the park Selwood the same.

Watson is in fantastic touch at the moment does handball alot will consider A swap.

Yeah the biggest question marks for me are Lids and Gibbs probably will be swapped out.

Mcintosh for Mumford.

Didak not sure yet Franklin maybe.

I think about moving Judd but hes better priced than most mids out there, I swapped Hodge for him because Hodge is coming back from injury or is still injured.

Theres too much risk in your forward line, Dangerfield, Hurley and Jurrah all risk players I think your thinking about how flashy they can be and not point wise.

You have 3 High priced Geelong players I know you abit biased but lets be realistic chances are your lot are going down hill.

No Cox in the ruck he is in Career best form.

Remember there is a by round and you have 6 or so Cats players thats a huge dent.

Defense: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Heppell
Toy, Duigan, Lower

Mids: Swan, Montagna, Boak, Anthony, Foley, D.Swallow
Harris, Atley, Hibberd

Ruck: Sandi, Cox
Smith, Derrickx

Fowards: Franklin, Sylvia, Reiwoldt, Higgins, Knights, Krakouer, Prestia
Matera, Richardson, Darling

Good or Bad comments would be a great help!!! Thanks!

I see your logic in defense. Everitt, Wood and Astbury have good job security and will make money not to mention good scoring potential. There are plenty of value picks in the fwd line and defense but no one has the balls to pick them.... I don't even know why people even bother posting their defense when its the same as everyone else.

I would only be critical of having Cooney and Gray as they are not DT performers. Hale is a good backup Ruck strategy also, but I would only have him if I had Petrie in the rucks to free up money else where. Petrie will make 100K which provides an easy upgrade to whoever is performing as a premium.

On another note...I think most of the teams posted here would not have a lot of strategy behind them hence why advice is sought

This is my provisional team at the moment, but I am not happy with it. My midfield looks weak so I want to upgrade either Shuey or Sloane and then downgrade probably in defense.

Any thoughts folks and also in my other sections. About 17k I think left over.

Here is my side:

Please give me some feedback.

Backs:
Goddard Gibbs Grimes J.Hunt C.Tarrant Otten Toy
Subs: S.McKernan Watson Cripps

Mids:
Judd Watson Deleido Thomas J.Kennedy D.Swallow
Subs: Heppell Buckley Prestia

Rucks:
Sandilands Mumford
Subs: Smith McNamara

Forwards:
Franklin Didak N.Riewoldt Goodes Higgins Yarran Krakouer
Subs: Matera Richardson Tapscott

91K left in kitty!!

B: Goddard, Gibbs, Enright, Grimes, Ottens, Heppell, Lower (D Stanley, Duigan, Puopolo)

M: Swan, Boyd, Montagna, Sloane, Foley, Swallow (Prestia(DPP), Hibberd (DPP), Harris)

R: Sandilands, Cox (Keffee, McCauley)

F: Franklin,Sylvia, Goodes, Riewoldt, Higgins Knights, Krakouer (Richardson, Matera, J Darling)

Krakouer and Prestia swap for round 1.

Thought more cash cows in defense this year so have used more rookies in that position.
Thinking of changing Higgins to Yarran or similar priced player for extra cash in the bank?

He'd do just as well playing a couple rookies in the midfield and selecting a couple of premiums in defence. There's generally far better rookie options and upgrade options in the midfield than there is in defence, so it makes sense to go cheap in the midfield (or spread it out across both lines).

While they might have solid job security, this year's batch of rookies is about as good as it's ever been, with the GC in and teams recruiting mature age players. Could save 200-300k with not much of a downgrade in job security or scoring if he did:
OUT: Everitt, Wood, Judd, Cooney
IN: Goddard, Gibbs, 2 mid rookies (Bewick, Swallow, moving Heppell to mids and bringing in Stanley, etc).

I agree with mehow2g comments. Get rid of at least Kelly in the middle and replace with a cheap mid, polec etc. Use the money in your forward line to get one more premium. Think about Yarran, Knights for mid priced and a premium.

Nice side - I would keep Higgins. If you want Yarran get rid of a fwd premium and then trade up Foley or Sloane in the mid to Scully or Kennedy or whoever you can afford.

Nice side as it stands

Here is my latest rendition now that I have had half a weekend to think about it:

Backs: Goddard Rawlings Enright Deledio Grimes Otten Heppel (Toy Duigan Lower)

Mids: Swan Boyd Montagna Gibbs Conca Harris (Prestia Atley Hibberd)

Rucks: Sandilands McEvoy (Smith Derikx)

Forwards: Sylvia Goodes Riewoldt Pavlich Higgins Krakouer Matera (Tapscott Richardson Darling)

+11.9k

I would say the biggest point if difference is my rucks with McEvoy a fairly cheap option. I could go with all guns blazing and swap him for Cox, potentially downgrading one of my Forwards to someone like Yarran.

Other than that can anyone notice any other glaring weakness - starting two rookie mids is always a risk but I have gone with the 4 Super Premium - 2 rookie mid set up for the last couple of years and it has served me well.

Thanks Skins appreciate the feedback. What about these changes to get a mid upgrade?

Hey guys

Ive really been changing these team way too many times. I have ummed and ahhed over petrie and have now seen a spot for him in the ruck department. Its a little pricey in the rucks atm and it has effected the rest of the feild. Looking at holding vickery for a couple weeks for cover of petrie with a nice pre season hoping for some cash to be added to him to then be traded later on. Id like some improvement in the middle but i think its the only way to go

That dood, hows brown travelling? is He a bit under done?
Dempster, no thanks.
Chapman maybe an upgrade target.

I was under the assumption Brown was fit, but I saw in the paper today he had an infected knee or something. Want him in my team if he is fit.

I doubt Dempster will be in my final team and want to find a better option.

Good idea RE:Chapman.

Thanks for the help.:thumbsu:
