Post Your Team (Part 1)

For the one and only time this pre-season, here is my team.

Goddard, Shaw, Deledio, Duffield, Hargrave, Webberly, Ellis (Bugg, Darley)

Boyd, Ablett, Selwood, Hayes, D. Smith, Sheil (Neale, Magner)

McEvoy, HMac (Giles, O)

Goodes, Fyfe, Martin, Sidebottom, Lewis, Porp, Saad (Treloar, Cameron)

$167,200 in the bank

I know there are 4 players in the backline with a rd.13 bye but by then only 2 would remain!!

Rd. 12 hurts my fwds a little but apart from that I am pretty happy with the balance.

Cheers. Webberly was ordinary last night. Would be well behind Ellis and Morris IMO for a spot in Richmonds best 21.

Your mids look very solid. There was talk Shiel was in a moonboot last week?

Has Porp played yet? I didn't catch or see any scores from Adelaides game

Think he scored ok, I reckon Porps and Dangerfield will be a bit better than most are willing to risk, could do very well for those who take the punt, could back fire too, heh heh

Actualy thought Webberly did a few good things and have also heard some good things about his training, but like all rooks will wait and see. That obviously goes for Shiel and Treloar and have other players in mind if they don't play rd.1.

Porps scored 56 points in less than a half and from what I have heard looks very fit and was hitting targets.

B - Deledio, Carrazzo, Duffield, Hargrave, H Shaw, B Ellis, Darley (Bugg, Blee)

M - Pendlebury, Boyd, Ablett, A Swallow, Gaff, Coniglio (McDonald, Neale)

R - McIntosh, Giles (Stephensen, Rowe)

F - Franklin, Fyfe, Zaharakis, S Sidebottom, S Johnson, Porplyzia, Treloar (A Hall, Sexton)

I reckon I've got a good mix, just awaiting announcement of Round 1 Teams.

Its funny how everyone is jumping on Hmac after one good game. Ill be curious to see how many would keep him in if he has an average game next week.

Also everyone who is picking Porpz is taking a huge risk. Just wait until he pops his shoulder again.

Agree oaks

People are too trigger happy. I really only look at the rookies in the first 2 nabs and someone like Hargrave who i initially didnt have has just been so impressive so far.

I find it a little contradictive by picking Porpz and than not picking Grimes. I know Porps is 120k cheaper but the most he has avg is 78 from memory and Grimes has avg 89 before. Also the premium backs are a lot weaker than the forward premiums eg: you need your midprice forwards to avg alot more to reach keeper status where as in the backs an avg of 75 last year puts you in the top 15, that could simply be a Nic Suban going from 55 to 75. Where as the forwards have about 15 that avg over 90 last year, so big difference.

latest Team:

Goddard, Deledio, Adcock, Broughton, Lake, Hargrave, Bugg, Darley, Guthrie

Ablett, Selwood, Thompson, Neale, Wingard, McDonald, Magner, Hogan

McEvoy, HMac, Giles, Steph

Franklin, Goodes, Fyfe, Robinson, Martin, Porplyzia, Hall, Smith, Skinner

cash $121,900

changes in rookies will come and possibly upgrade Lake to Grimes, Porp to Balla

Very happy with structure given rookies DT ability/JS this year. Will downgrade several rookies prior to byes to create cash and bring in elite mids during byes, also upgrade 2-3 mid price fwd/Backs to elites. I will have a few zeros during byes but will have best team shortly after byes with many trades left available

PS: Porp is not much higher $ than premium rookie, Lake & Hargrave not much higher again - careful monitoring (change if need be) - atleast one will be absolute bargain of the year, allowing 2 trades to fix rookies/low pricers in early Rds if all still in team R1

for the sausages...

Goodard, Deludio, Enright, Duffield, Lake, Guthrie, Ellis
(Bugg, Smedts)

Ablett, Selwood, Thompson, A Swallow, Hayes,Magner,
(Golds, Kennedy)

Mumford, West
(Giles, Stevenson)

Martin, Zaha, Sidebottom, Christensen, Porps, A Tomlinson, Hampton,
(Kerridge, Weedon)

128k in zee bank!

thinking maybe Lake to Hargraves...

Let me know what you reckon!

I had Hayes in the side initially, then switched to Kerr, Kerr is a class player and I could see him finishing off his hard tackling and impact work with a few goals, if he played all the games, there is huge upside, but huge risk and that is what DT is all about backing in someone.

Kerr's last 5 years:

17/24 games
11/22
11/22
4/22
16/25

In 2007 when he polled 22 Brownlow votes in 17 games he only averaged 93 in DT. Great player, poor DT selection (IMO).

Yeah you are right. Rarely strings games together but if he did, boy he would have a brownlow imho. I am going for Gaff, I think he has upside and will be getting full games and kicks more than handballs and is a great user of the ball. Anyone else considering Gaffy?

DEF: Goddard, Enright, Deledio, Shaw, Hargrave, Ellis, Darley, (Morris, Bugg)
MID: Swan, Ablett, Rockliff, Selwood, Montagna, McDonald, (Gibson, Magner)
RUC: McEvoy, Giles, (Redden, Stephenson)
FWD: Franklin, Martin, Sidebottom, Christensen, Smith, Saad, Smedts, (Walsh, Sexton).

Comments:
  • 8/10/12 Bye Ratio - easily fixable with pre-R11 trades.
  • 5 mids is a lot, but the backbone of 2K+ scores is a strong mid line.
  • FWDs are light-on, but none of the mid-priced forwards appeal to me, nor do any R11 premium forwards. And going three or more premiums in one line from one bye round is asking for some fatty doughnuts.
  • $254K in the bank to spend.
  • Unsure about Deledio's injury - is it worth leaving him out for?
  • Unsure of rookie injuries, I haven't been following this as much as I should.
  • Guthrie - one-game hype? Or potential break-out candidate/cash cow?
  • Goddard OUT for Fisher IN could free up more cash.

Goddard, Shaw, Deledio, Waters, Grimes, Clarke, Ellis (Mohr, Smedts)

Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Barlow, Shiel, Stevens (Magner, McDonald)

Leuenberger, McIntosh (Giles, Stephensen)

Franklin, Beams, Fyfe, Martin, Porplyzia, Zorko, Treloar (Smith, Walsh)

Remaining Salary Cap: $222,300

Thoughts? Haven't decided on my final rookies yet, also still undecided on a few players such as Clarke, Grimes, Waters and Porplyzia but I do have enough money to trade in someone like Carrazzo and Broughton for Waters and Grimes.

Made a few changes to my team:

Goddard, Carrazzo, Shaw, Deledio, Birchall, Hargrave, Ellis (Mohr, Smedts)

Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Barlow, Shiel, McDonald (Magner, Stevens)

McIntosh, Giles (Stephensen, Redden)

Franklin, Beams, Fyfe, Martin, Porplyzia, Smith, Zorko (Treloar, Walsh)

Remaining Salary Cap: $255,300

IN: Carrazzo OUT: Grimes
IN: Birchall OUT: Waters
IN: Hargrave OUT: Clarke
IN: Redden OUT: Leuenberger

Questions

  • What should I do with the $255,300 left over?
  • Was trading Leuenberger for money to upgrade Grimes>Carrazzo, Waters>Birchall and Clarke>Hargrave a good decision?

Cheers

My two cents:
  • I personally don't like having more than two premiums from one line in one bye round (Goddard, Deledio, Birchall). Trade one of those (Birchall, or Deledio if he's injured) for a R11 premium, if not a rookie.
  • I don't get the hype over HMac from one game. I feel he'll average 70-ish this year, and IMO, that's not enough for a R1.
  • Beams too expensive, hasn't played a full season at elite output.
  • Not convinced by Carrazzo. Often plays a tagging role.
  • Barlow's having issues with his leg, trade him for Montagna IMO

Would you mind offering your opinion to my team above?

Hi all,

Looking to get advice on any big mistakes or omissions that I have made (player that would be better for similar price than the one I have etc)

Only players that will change between now and Rd 1 is if there are any injuries and some of my rookies depending on team selections.

DEF: Goddard, Deledio, Heppell, Duffield, Hargrave, Guthrie, Clarke, [Ellis, Darley]

FWD: Franklin, Fyfe, Zaharakis, Martin, Sidebottom, Christensen, Smith, [Saad, Kerridge]

I like it! Very similar structure wise to my team.

I don't mind the 5 prem mid set up. My team currently has the 5 prem mid set up and i don't think i will change it.

I would look to utilise that $254k in the bank, i don't like the idea of going in with heaps in the bank. To me it means your going in with a potentially weaker side. Then again it makes your first upgrade that much easier, so your choice which way you like to look at it.

Deledio is going to play this week, so keep an eye out on him. Will give you a good enough idea. He even mentioned that he has been training well since the injury and it wasn't anything major.

Guthrie is a tough one, might be worth considering, its just too hard to tell given the side Geelong played. What role will he play come round 1 with a full strengthed Geelong side? Will he play every game? Don't know.

Not sure if i like the Goddard to Fisher trade, i see much more upside to Goddard.

Overall nice team bro!

Ok here is my ever rotating team as it stands. I won't list most of my rookies because i haven't decided on them. I basically just have a shortlist from the NAB cup games i have watched.

looks really good. Havent gone through the byes. Really strong midfield.

Deledio has had an interrupted pre-season with a hamstring strain i believe in an intra-club match. Ive got him as an upgrade target.

My 3rd side in 2 days, and I'm sure it won't be the last :p. I keep saying to myself, don't look at your side again until the week leading up to the first match, but I just can't do it.

Still undecided on rookies, will wait till Round 1 teams are named.

Not sure about Monfries he is pretty inconsistent, maybe better to get someone like Christensen.
Saad is a proven goalsneak and mature age but will he get into the StKilda forward line with Milne/Schneider in there already?
Backline looks a little bit weak, maybe spend a bit less on your rucks and upgrade someone there.

My current lineup, fairly reliant on GWS rookies atm but may change those according to round 1 teams:

I have $290,500 all up for a Midfielder, i have John McCarthy from PTA but maybe there is a better player out there....could anyone please reccomend me anyone... Its abit confusing for me, ty

First off, in your back line I would seriously consider trading Lake to Hargrave. Hargrave has shown an infinitely greater amount of promise than Lake in the cup so far.

I would try and mix up you midfield rookies a bit. There are plenty of choices besides the GWS kids and will give you greater flexibiltity.
For example I would consider trading McDonald (who is yet to play) to Magner from the demons who has played 2 outstanding games for them already. They also cost the same unless I'm mistaken.

I don't know much about Gibson, but there are certainly better choices than Hampton. Neale from the dockers, Koby Stevens from the Eagles, take a gamble on Zorko from Brisbane.

Cox in your ruck could end up being an expensive risk. He is definately getting on in age. Having said that I have Sandilands so I can't really pass too much judgement. If you budget allows I would think about getting Hamish McIntosh into your ruck. So far he is shaping up to being back to his premium best at half the price.

Forwards look pretty decent. My only raised eyebrow would be cloke...but that's probably because I don't like him.
