We don't have a second round pick this year... Only our first rounder, two third rounders, and two fourth rounders...
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-01/indicative-draft-order-round-six-edition

Let's assume we keep our First round pick.

That leaves us with Picks 46, 54, 55, 60 based on the article.

That's 331pts + 220pts + 207pts + 146pts = 904 pts in total.

If Brownless is a second rounder, that's anywhere between 948pts and 502pts; plus we get 197 pts discount. If he is selected at Pick 26 or later, then, we only give up Picks 46 + 54.

Unless Mensch smashes the combine, at best, he is probably a Late second rounder, but most likely a third rounder or later. An early third round pick 37, is only 483pts, then minus 197pts discount, is only 286pts, meaning we have enough points with picks 55 and 60.

So I think we can still keep our first rounder, and get Brownless and Mensch with those late picks with the discount!

If you don’t have enough points teams can go into deficit right?

Call me greedy but I’d like to keep our first rounder, grab Brownless and possibly Mensch AND have a second round pick.

Mensch starting to look a bit more draftable and I am still predicting Brownless to be bid in the 20-35 range (which is why i think we traded our R2 for Ablett and a late pick back).

Scott looking reasonable too but who knows which club he will choose.

If we could get all 3 in bids for mostly just our 3rd/4th rounders and have a live R1 pick we will be doing well.
So if he went 20-35 we could use our 3rd round draft pick??????

Both fathers were tall fwds....when these two look like being med tall mids/utilities, work that out. If they progress positively and maturely we could have ourselves a couple of stars for keeps. Is Baxter an inside or outside player ?

Inside looking at the stats.

People were jumping up and down about us having to give up this years 2nd round pick for Ablett (and receive G.C. 4th rd pick this year in return) but we had no choice considering G.C. are stumping up for a fair amount of his salary this year, but Geelong were clearly playing the long game in being able to make a play for our any potential F/S players this year. It's also why we did a swap of picks with Richmond as well in the last trade period and picked up another 4th rounder from Carlton for this year coming from the Lang trade. Clever list management.

Well we will see ... I think more will be known post champs..but Brownless looks 40+ bid to me.

Brownless could still be eligible for Melbourne yet ... Does young Oscar have an overabundance of body hair?

All correct (assuming Brownless isn't bid before our R1 then we have to use R1 to match). But if Scott then chooses us as well we will maybe need to trade in some more r3/r4 picks for bid points or go into deficit on 2019 picks.

I agree those trades were clever and clearly done for likely FS bid points. That said I still think a R2 was overs for a 33yo with injury history but if Brownless is bid R2/R3 so we can mostly use the GC R4 for the points so we haven't lost much.

IF that were to happen ..it would not be too hard to get late picks. ..but I look at our list and I feel we are little chance for him to choose us. Gold Coast then North then us is my guess. Both they other two are showing enough..especially North. They are way off what I expected...they may look back and think it was not the year to be so honest in their efforts...but if the get Scott from it ..good for them.

I know you think earlier but Brownless 40+ , Mencsh as a Rookie is about where I see it... you think Brownless earlier.. and if someone rates him that..then good.. we are stilling wining to be able to get a player that good to club. ..but its very rare that FS's get bid on that early.. Naish was talked about as a R1 and slid... Has anyone mentioned Brwonless as R1? Not that I have heard ... .. my bet if we did a list of the FS's since bidding.. nearly all players have drifted.Perhaps the Dogs ruck the only R1 and thats was a while ago. Is Brownless showing more than Silvangni? I doubt it.

Still good to see we have the chance to add another couple of serious chances in one year.. Bring on the Champs for more info...

It was a 5 pick downgrade. We received pick 24 back in return.

I dont think brownless is anywhere near a round 1 pick. He would need to improve rapidly for that to happen
I know he's rated highly at the Falcons but I haven't seen him play this year so can only based it off that.

I'd like to hear the thoughts of Budda 230

No that only part of it.

We gave up pick 19 (Motlop compo) + our 2018 R2 pick for Ablett pick 24 2017 (Tim Kelly) and GC's 2018 R4 pick. But we probably would have had to use the R2 pick for a Brownless bid anyway and the R4 we got back can cover some of those points.

Exactly, but the loss of that 2nd round pick wasn't as profound as you indicated. We got Ablett and Kelly and lost Motlop and pick 19.

We dont know how profound it is until we can better work out where our FS kids will be bid this year and what it will cost to match those bids.

The net ins and outs probably will be
In
Ablett
Kelly
Pick 55-60 2018

Out
Motlop
Pick 24 2017
Pick 30-35 2018

I agree the pick 19 to 24 bit is largely irrelevant because we likely would have taken either Fogarty or Kelly at 19 if we'd kept it anyway.

Mate, you said pick 19 was overs for a 33yr old, but It was only a 5 pick downgrade at the end of the day since we're banking points for Father/son picks.

I never said 19 was overs because its irrelevant.

I said pick 30-35 (what we gave up 2018) was overs for a 33yo. The FS situation makes that less of a blow than normal though.

Im in same position..I have not seen him this year either ..one usually see some sort of buzz from industry or amateur followers that do see a lot of TAC. Being selected top40 in u17's gives me confidence he is draftable.. and where probably depends on many factors.. he is apparently playing more on ball rather than backline.
