Tom lynch has been on their list for 3 years and day was already physically developed.Day had to work his way into the line up.Must have been kicking goals

I think hes talking about Gold Coast Tom Lynch who is 18 and was a first round draft pick last year, not the St Kilda one.

Lynch is a year younger than Butcher. He's of similar size to him too.

Day kicking goals in an amateur hour league vs Butcher kicking goals in the SANFL. There is no comparison.

Jonas 10 possies at half time - as Primus wants to give all youngsters a go I hope he gets a game in a couple of weeks once he gets his fitness back.

Butcher as well.

Jonas had 3 clearances as well - equal top for Norwood. I'd like to see him play at the top level but don't know if Port will elevate him this season simply on financial grounds. He's done enough to be retained and maybe promoted post-season.

On Butcher, while there is clearly disagreement about his game - he has the tools but nobody seems to be sure what he's building - there is no sugar coating his goal kicking from any distance. It's a nightmare. It's surely psychological so maybe they need to just work on a routine with him to make sure he gets the ball to boot effectively.

Agree Macca19 on Alex Grima. He was painfully dangerous for the Bays. Good size and some real dash.

Didn't see the game but i rate Butcher's talents... with the season we're having and our forward structure really struggling the question is:

What do we have to loose from giving him a few games this year... and compare that to what we have to gain????

IMO we have absolutely nothing to loose but the potential to unearth a genuine AFL key positional forward.

Get him in.

Stupid thing I know and a Pisa take, but I would get Sam Neuman and Brian Taylor over here and walk through goal kicking with Butch and Danny Stewart, they both know what they are talking about and I am sure one of their methods of delivering a message would in bed itself in the young lads.

lol redden wont make it as a ruck alone thats why we play him up forward if we were selecting on ruck ability and not around the ground / forward ability he would be in the B's his ruck work is average at best, which his fine for a second ruck. Its his forward work that puts him above the pack. Plus parry's the best ruck in the comp

lol at sturts ruck stocks then if he would be number 1 on ruck ability alone, if he works on his forward play he will be great for the power as a second ruck, that rucks ten mins a quarter and plays at FF /FP. If i was the power i would be asking for him to play up forward as much as possible rather than resting on the bench. Saying all that if you guys dont develop a number one ruck he isn't going to do you any for you good.

still he has improved alot this year in the ruck and up forward and he is still young for a ruck his size :thumbsu:

While you were lol'ing I hope you took the time to carefully read my post because everything I said was backed up by what you said. I commented on the fact Redden started on the bench, spent a fair bit of time off the ground and in the forward pocket. That's not where I want one of Port's young players playing in order to develop his game quickly. My point is that his development is hindered by a team that structures up for their benefit, not for the benefit of Redden and Port.

I don't give a toss about Parry and how good he is. If Redden was in Port's own reserve team, he wouldn't have to "fit in" around Parry and a forward structure that clearly targets Grocke while looking to develop Lee Staple.

I think you might find that Webb spent a fair chunk of time on the bench as well as Redden. I think if you are sticking up for Reddo he might need more than 1kick and 1mark in a team that kicks 18goals 14 pts and dominated all day.
It might be a fair bit easier getting a kick in the eagles forward lines than in Wests with double the forward entries and 32 scoring shots to 14.:eek::eek:

I wasn't sticking up for Redden. I was making the point that I want to see him on the ground more. As for Webb, I haven't seen much to suggest he be retained.

Not sure I see the logic in this. At some stage he is going to be elevated if he is good enough. How do finances become the determinant?

He currently costs the club nothing being on the rookie list. If you upgrade a rookie, you then have to pay for them.

I could hardly disagree more, I'm surprised he is in the Magpies' firsts. Must have failed to mark 1:1 10 times or more which was seriously costly. Yes he is a different beast when the ball is on the ground but does the Power need a 6' 6" goal sneak?
Surj was generally OK and looks match fit. But nothing about his game to make the Power selection panel play the tape twice.

I think "generally ok" is even a bit of a stretch. Not doing anywhere near enough for a guy trying to get back to the seniors. Some of his disposal was terrible and he missed short, spot up kicks 3 or 4 times. He seems to be going through the motions rather than really pushing himself.

The Butch was sensational yesterday, worked right into the contest in the second half and workrate was high. If they actually kicked the ball anywhere near his chest he'd have taken a lot more marked but continually over his head, at his ankles, 5m infront of him etc makes it pretty tough also was continually scragged one on one without getting any frees.

I thought Butcher was very good. His workrate is excellent. Like Lobbe, I reckon he'll find AFL more suitable to his strengths. It would also help, as you've said, if the delivery to him wasn't at his toes or 5 metres over his head. As for his kicking, it needs work but I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be.

Maybe, just maybe, Surj realised that Salopek got called up after being terrible and only getting 14 touches. So this week he tried to play like Salopek in order to get the call up?

He was back to 2008 Surj where he skulked a kick behind the play and regularly missed regulation 15-20 metre sideways kicks which generally bounced 3 times before it reached the player. He had a very good 3rd quarter in the centre, but other than that he was pants.

Surj couldnt have lost his talent/skill overnight
Sure he was never the best disposal in the team but he generally hit targets
Your report Macca screams of a guy who is going through the motions/not pushing himself
Kinda makes me think he is already gone...
really sad considering 12-18 months ago he was AA quality and possibly the best shut down small defender in the competition

Bass kicked his first goal for Souths yesterday. I had the privilege to give it the big sausage roll. Hope I didn't cut TSW's lunch :p

Lol fishbowl Adelaide ftw.

Who'd have thought that the plucky young fella of "Oi Bass!" fame would be nodding through his first senior goal not 12 months later?

He currently costs the club nothing being on the rookie list. If you upgrade a rookie, you then have to pay for them.

Might open an unacceptable can of worms given the state of our finances and the incoming puppet CEO, but we've got a little bit of cash locked away the interest on which would go close to covering Jonas you'd have thought.

Getting a month into him could transform what we do with our 3rd-4th-5th-rookie picks.

The SANFL Footy Fix video on AdelaideNow includes a couple of highlights of Port players including a Butcher goal, and Stewart hanger and goal.

There's also a couple of Kennedy's highlights - hanger and goal.
