I thought he bombed it alot (not alone, cripps, kennedy, Acres multiple times)

I found last year his kicking was not up to the standard alot of people had said he was going to provide preseason 2022.
By the same token, Freo used him sitting on the outside (frequently the back) of a stoppage, distributing to him to kick inside 50 quite deliberately when he was in more space. Freo don't have the contested markers ahead of the ball; the tradeoff for precise movement is the time taken to arrange for space around the kicker.

We smash the ball in quickly because we should - with the cattle we've got - stand a better than reasonable chance of bringing the ball to ground if not outright marking it.

I don't think we use Cerra as effectively as we could but if they're all doing it that denotes method rather than inadequacy.

Extremely impressed with Motlop today. Running looked effortless which meant he was all over the ground.

High hopes for the grouping of Acres, O’Brien and Hollands.

We've got a beauty in Jesse :thumbsu:

Not bad for pick 27!

Dow a run down tackle
He’s arrived

That’s the shit he needs to do week in and week out, you get confidence in yourself from defending as much as attacking not to mention very good will from any coach which also helps the big C

But the so called draft experts here said we should have taken player x or player z instead :)

Would love for us to poach his brother from the Suns. At the time, I felt we took the best player available for our needs in the short and long term with Ollie, and I stand by that.

I know some of us were keen on Busslinger, but he is still probably going to play his trade in the VFL for at least 18 months before he gets a crack at AFL level.

Hollands has a very high footy IQ and seems to have a lot of composure. Couldn't really ask for anything more from a first round draft pick with those attributes.
Agree Elmer, I've been constant since December that this kid is the real deal and should be a walk up start in round 1, had a much more productive day than O'Brien, and looked more composed than either Daicos....

We have a player mate.

People know why I was bias for him but I agree. He's not going to be terribly far away from demanding senior games. Kid can play.

Cowans is a goer too.

Early days but we smashed this draft.

This whole "bomb it long" is a bit of a fallacy, as all sides do it, it's part of every club's gameplan

Where concerns me, is when we don't have at least 2 tall marking options and a couple of smalls in the vicinity

Sooner Lemmey gets up to standard and in the meantime the longer Pittonet can ruck and TDK play forward as another marking option... The easier the Ws will come.

No excuse not to have at least one marking option up the ground anymore. No need for those options to be forced to far behind the play on the rebound.

Haha yes, as they commentators will say, ”the chaos” ball….when in fact it’s ”just get it on my boot otherwise I’m gonna be tackled.”

I suspect Acres is going to be extremely underrated by Carlton supporters.

The guy is an absolute monster, his running ability is psychotic. There were a few plays today where he just kept going at the same speed when other guys would be completely gassed. Throw in how big he is and I think he's going to be a very valuable addition to our side.
Like a swift kick in the plums, we could use a couple of Acres...

That’s why I was so stoked with SOS today. He did not stop providing a target on the lead and he was there to contest the high ball when the other talls weren’t going to make it.

Whatever Voss told him to do today should be what he tells him to do all season.

Ash Hansen interview with Dwayne Russell after the game on SEN - speaks about kicking long to tall timber/marking power when opposition gives that opportunity; as opposed to hand balling through defensive set up (as Russell’s line of questioning was pursuing).

Lemmiwinks needs to work his way through the guts and explode out the shute of expulsion.

If it becomes predictable, then it loses relevance.
If we can get dangerous hit up targets, it will create indecision for defenders.
Where Martin might be very important.

Don’t know, got smashed before Cripps turned his ankle in the same area. As Cripps was running off Fish was still on the ground.
Didn’t see him again

Not good - wasn't mentioned in any of the articles or by the club. Hopefully he was just winded and went off as a precaution
