Predict 2011's Most Improved Players

If Ryan Griffen is our most improved player in 2011 off the back of being our finals MVP and a B&F winning year in 2010, lay some cash down for the Charlie.

sidebottom does ooze class hardly put a foot wrong in both gf and did a helluva lot right.
varcoe ....every time we play the cats i think 'he's going to tear us a new one tonight' , he hasn't yet but i know its only a matter of time.

from the saints, stanley or steven but not expecting too much.

I have trouble getting my head around it but i think goddard will improve
exponentially till he is without peer in the competition. just saying.

Adelaide: Dangerfield/Walker
Brisbane: Leuenberger/Redden
Carlton: Henderson/Yarran
Collingwood: Sidebottom/Beams
Essendon: Zaharakis/Gumbleton
Fremantle: Palmer/Suban
Geelong: Varcoe/Duncan
Hawthorn: Shiels/Ellis
North: Hansen/Ziebell
Melbourne: Grimes/Morton
Port: Hartlett/D.Stewert
Richmond: Cotchin/Post
St Kilda: Steven/McEvoy
Sydney: Rohan/Meredith
West Coast: Shuey/Wilson
Western Bulldogs: Roughead/Ward

Just a guess focusing mostly on young players with a couple years under their belt. Hardest to come up with 2 names was probably Hawthorn to be honest. Guess you could add Rioli.

Nah. He's a complete dud. I doubt he'll get many games at all, and even if he does, he'll suck. Kane Tenace v2.0

This, however, is a very interesting one.

He showed a lot last year and if he gets his opportunity he should be a very, very good player.

Also, Mitch Duncan too IMO.

With Ablett gone hopfully he'll get a bit more opportunity; most people (non Cats) would believe that after Hawkins and Selwood the Cats young talent drops off a bit but this guy will be a genuine gun.

And whoever said Walters from Freo is bang on, should earn himself a fair bit of recognition from the East next year.

Would be close to our most player skilled after Hill or Mundy.

I could see NicNat playing a few big games this year. I think he's ready to show some really good signs of improvement without being elite just yet.

Bryce Gibbs could step up a level.

I also like Tippets chance of turning things around quickly this year, and being one of the comps true power forwards.

From my team I could see Colin Sylvia going from gun to elite, and watch out for Jamie Bennell to improve alot. I cant go without saying Jack Watts could be just about ready for a couple of impact games as well..

Robbie Gray will **** your shit up next year.

Agree

Sure thing: Steele Sidebottom and Travis Varcoe

Possible: Taylor Hunt

Dark Horse: John Anthony. Given an opportunity, and a few forwards protect his lead, he might have a career year at a new club.

Scooter Selwood from WCE showed glimpses last year but should get even a greater opportunity in the midfield to prove his worth this year.

Rhys Palmer is another I am expecting a big season from this year after a couple of dirty years since his debut season.

A dark horse could be Easton Wood from the Western Bulldogs. He has a nice size about him and is a beautiful mover who will benefit from his taste of AFL last year.

Sam Jacobs will also show why Crows were desperate to get him and benefit from being the number 1 ruckmen.

I also rate Colin Garland very highly who flies under the radar. He could make the jump to the 40 AA squad at the end of the year.

For the Bombers, I expect there will be a lot of improvement from certain players but you would expect that from a young side. One player who has shown just glimpses at this stage that could improve dramatically next year is Leroy Jetta. Has the modern game to excel at AFL level.

From my team -

Ben Reid - Assuming no major injuries, WILL be All Australian CHB. The only other issue that could impact his selection and influence on games will be that the ball doesnt spend a lot of time in the Collingwood backline and will be there even less often in 2011.

Chris Dawes - Finally has found his feet and should now be aware that he has the ability to not only compete at AFL level, but consistently influence games. Anyone who has watched the GF replay more than once should have seen his influence on the game with his bullocking and smart team play. His 2 goals were the cream on his game, I thought he was brilliant.

A bigger, Fitter, Stronger Hurley may improve quiet a bit.

It will be interseting to see if Ryder can become a match winner.

Dangerfield spending more time in the midfield, could be a huge year ahead.

Jacobs will be a great get for the Crows, may find that he gives Kreuzer a bit of a touch up when play against each other.

Boak I think it is his time to really step it up.

Damn, nearly all the players I was going to choose have been common selections.

Bryce Gibbs, Paddy Ryder, Stephen Hill, Travis Varcoe, Shaun Burgoyne, Robbie Gray, Brett Deledio and Ryan Griffen should all take significant steps up. (Burgoyne only if he has a relatively un-interrupted pre-season, tore a couple of games apart last year and yet struggled with his knee injury)

Others:
Dangerfield, McLean, T.Cloke (if he kicks straight may go close to being one of the best CHFs in the game, but I'm not sure if he can take the final step. One to watch), Hamish Hartlett (if injury-free), Everitt (Sydney have that knack of turning those thereabouts into good players), and Cox.

From the dogs I would say Higgins, Ward, Grant and Roughead should improve on their 2010's.

That's if Higgins can stay injury/illness free.
