Prediction for Watts

Watts does lope around a bit, but you have to remember that we stuffed around with the ball a lot and he isn't used to playing at the highest level with this set of players just yet. As such, it was somewhat difficult for him to get into a rhythm in terms of his leading and off-the-ball movement.

I thought he did a good job today considering it was his first AFL match for the year though, and he was clearly better than Naitanui.

ladies. Gentlemen. thank you, thank you all very much.

i got home from work and watched the second half, it was a completely disgusting. not just watts, 18 players today were freaking terrible. grimes was our best, frawley did all he could and davey tried desperately hard to run us back into the game.

but this is a watts thread and he was less than good. dropped a sitter in the goal square that would have got us back into the game.. but showed some good signs which was disappointing for me..

failed today as predicted.

its just a game boys dont beat yourselves up, we were terrible today.. as a young team this will happen. demon revival kiss my ass

F*** you give me the s***s, did you watch the first half???
No, so don't comment on a game you did not watch in its entirity. Watts was pretty good in the first half, took a few contest marks and looked good when he had it. The second half, in particular the last quarter we struggled to get the ball past the centre so of course he wasn't going to do much.
Am I the only one on here who seems confussed that a so called Melbourne supporter wants our number one draft pick to fail???

BS,why don't you piss off this board and take you crap with you! please we could all do without the BS!

Remember Jack Watts has probably grown since draft camp, add on that the muscles, of course he wont be as quick yet, he has to grow into it

also it's very different sprinting in a straight line in a gym vs leading hard for a mark with a defender right behind you.

Is there any footage or pics of Watts? I havnt been able to see the replay over here and am interested to see if he's put on much size?
He looks a lot better this year.:thumbsu:

Rivalry aside, I am happy for Watts in his first hitout this year.
Good luck to the boy, he cops mountains of shit here but he is only a young man and I hope he serves MFC well.:thumbsu:

Kind regards
DTF

Watts looks pretty good to me. I'vé got a feeling he could turn out to be a gun. Dropped that running back chest mark which didnt help things.

I was right behind the goals when that happened, Watts looked up to see where the goals post was in fear of running into it, so he took his eyes off the football, also, it was Benell was going for goal and completely stuffed it up, so its not like he was even kicking it to him.

I thought Watts was good, the only downside to his game was fitness, really struggled to make multiple leads, apart from that he looked very silky with his skills and appeared to have plenty of time when he had it, also some good contested marks, much better than last year!

I'm just glad that he did enough to get people off his back for a while. :) It will be much easier for him once he can go about his business without people speculating on his value all the time. He still needs to do a lot of weights and fitness work, but I don't expect to see the potential Jack Watts until next year after a good pre-season. For now, I'm satisfied.

Thought Watts was good, clean hands at ground level, good handballs to advantage. Couple of nice contested marks and his kicking was good (except the one to trengove but it was on the left).

He will definitely be better for the run and hopefully the delivery wont be that slow and poor again. Only his 4th game and first for the year against players who have had 6-7 games on the trot at this level. It makes a difference.

No point sending him back to the twos, he should stay in the seniors for at least another 4-5 games to pickup the speed.

From what i saw yesterday, and knowing his lack of match fitness and experiance in general playing as a KPF in that side i see no reason why Watts would need to ever go back to Casey.

The kid has got it, played pretty well, compeated and took strong marks in the handsout in front against a former AA full back in Glass. He's ernt his spot via Casey so why wouldn't we just leave him in the side so he can develop with his mates.

Watts was good yesterday. For his first game this year, and his 4th game ever, as a KPF he did better than I expected. He took 5 marks, 3 contested, which is more than most of our senior boys even do. The pleasing thing about them was that he took them hands out infront on a lead against a good fullback in Glass. If he can do that now already, when he gets more size and strength to him over a few more years, he will be very very hard to stop. He's coming along nicely, and I hope he plays out the rest of the year in the senior side and gains valuable experience. He wont become a star overnight, but he definitely has the tools to become one in a few years time.

PS he was better than Naita yesterday, regardless of what the media or any other moron says. Have patience, and we will definitely be rewarded :D

This is close to or the most accurate post of were Watts career is at the moment :thumbsu:

It all comes down to whether you'd prefer Watts, Naitanui and Scully, Naitanui and Scully or Watts, Scully and Trengove. Personally, I like the final combo.

The point about his agility and speed is valid, and we'll see more of it as he gets used to the pace of AFL vs VFL and finds his feet. That said, there was one chase in the first quarter where he literally exploded - quite incredible pace, almost caught the guy who had a minimum 5m head start.

I was quite amazed at how quickly he accelerated during that chase.

I mean, I knew he was quick, but that moment was absolutely remarkable, and it certainly served to confirm the validity of his 20m sprint time at draft camp.

Also his effort in the 3rd to offer 2 tackles and then chase and try to smother the shot on goal (all bit it unsuccessful) was mint.

Oh noes! That's got to be, what, a 10-12 week injury at least!!1?

I so hope the trainers managed to find all of the pieces. :(

I agree.
He still was unsure of a fair few things, but mainly around where to be and when. What he actually does is OK at least.
Drop #11 and pick just about anyone over 6'5" in his spot, and keep #4 for a run of matches.
