Predictions of fringe players making an impact in 2018

My definition of 'fringe' would be a player who isn't clearly best 22, but someone who regularly pushes for selection. For mine, players from Collingwood fitting this description include:
- Tim Broomhead
- Tom Phillips
- James Aish
- Ben Crocker
- Josh Thomas

In terms of 'making an impact', I think that Josh Thomas surprised a few by playing some decent games after his two-year suspension, and I think his second year back will be stronger. Tom Phillips is another one: he runs all day, finds the footy easily, has a great attitude...if he can clean up his disposal a bit then he'll be best 22 and a handy best 22 at that.

I have hopes for our other fringe dwellers, but those hopes are fading.

What about Sean Darcy? I reckon the kid is going to be amazing, and he's likely to get a fair crack at it if Sandi misses a lot of games again.
Yeah, I guess I didn't count him as fringe in my mind.
His body transformation has been incredible.
If what he did last year was as an overweight not fully fit 19 year old, I can't wait to see what he can produce now that he's lost the fat and added to his aerobic capacity.

Tim Broomhead and Josh Thomas have been talked up and have done nothing for so long, that they make James Aish look like a promising second year.

Weideman, J. Smith, Fritsch, Balic, Spargo, Baker,

Hannan, Neal-Bullen, Melskham and Harmes came on leaps and bounds last season.

Maynard only had one game last season & I'm hopeful he's going to absolutely kill it and take Vince's spot in the 22 as he peters off into nothingness this coming season.

I reckon Kent and Kennedy-Harris are playing for their careers in 18'. The last of the group that went out and got maggoted when they shouldn't have will need to do something spectacular in the VFL to earn their way back into the team and survive the next offseason or else they'll get delisted.

Bugg will need to earn back some respect of the group and club by performing well in the VFL as well before he gets a go in the 1s.

Frost will probably be in and out of the 22 for team balance reasons. I do love his pace though.

Word is Stretch is "training the house down". That'll be great for him, as he's become a depth player in recent times.

I think all the MFC fans are hoping Weideman finally breaks his way into the 22 as well. Especially after yet another season and no more Watts in the squad.

I reckon Fritsch, Spargo and Baker will get a few games this season too. I'm iffy on Balic and would like to see him kill it at VFL before he gets a look into the 22. J. Smith was unlucky last year and should be borderline 22.

Neal Bullen has '39 games at Melbourne, 17 at Port' written all over him. Has the name of someone hyped but rubbish.

Weird to have a go at someone who you don't even know... just mark it down. He's going to be a very good player in the AFL

Not only is your post completely off the mark, but it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever either, particularly in relation to the “makes Aish look like a promising second year player”.

Congratulations.

Kieren Lovell. Loved what we saw of him 2 years ago. Shame he missed a whole season in 2017 due to injury. Moves really well, shows maturity beyond his years. Could have a big impact with a luck.
